1. Good riddance but it took them this long to notice?

/Moderator edited response - Whilst we do not condone such behaviour, please keep the "hang 'em high" comments to yourself, Thank You

So tell me this, ever since my "jew" comment are you going to be hounding me at every step now?

    <snip>

// Well this particular moderator - not the same one who warned you about your "Jew" remark, or the one who edited your first post in this thread, finds your second post quite unacceptable. So you're out of here. Bye.

    Keep it clean, people. :o

  2. Why would you want to eat steak in Thailand? Whenever i'm back in the U.S. I make sure to gorge myself on as much quality steak as possible so as not to have this problem when I go abroad. THen when i'm in Thailand I gorge myself on the fine Thai, Chinese, and seafood food available. It works.

  3. I'd bet good money that he's allowed to serve the rest of his sentence out in Israel eventually. I don't think anyone buys the fact that this wasn't premeditated murder. It takes some real hatred to dismember someone like that. Then again if you've been around Jewish women for any length of time you can kind of understand what motivated this man.

  4. You would think with the way the Thai economy is that they'd be eager to have foreign merchants come in to buy. Instead they're trotting out antiquated "work permit" rules to scare all the foreign money away. Good going there. I don't know what the goal of this strategy is but it seems mighty stupid. Foreigners would rather do business in places without draconian visa rules or retarded roadblocks set up to deter capitalism.

  5. I don't think i'll ever understand this aspect of Thai culture. Literally a few miles away you have chicks shaking their asses in front of hundreds of horny foreigners and the best thing they can come up with is censoring hollywood movies? These legislators live in some kind of absurdist alternate reality that we will never be privy to.

  6. Hello I just came across these forums and they have a wealth of great information.

I am an avid comic book reader, superman and x-men, but I have not been able to find any shops that sell english language comic books. Do anybody know where I could find any in Bangkok.

    Thanks

Big C near the World trade center has a store that sells english language graphic novels, trading card games, and comics. It's on the floor where they sell movie tickets.

  7. i went and saw it and thought it was banal .

made by the mentally subnormal for morons.

it was so bad it wouldnt make the worlds worst movies list.

i noticed many farangs walking out after 15 minutes.

I think your mistake was going to see a movie billed as a "mindless action movie" and treating it with academy level criticism. Duh.

  8. Of course things are getting worse in BKK but then again it's all over the world. Time changes everything and ATM we are seeing a worldwide increase in violent crime.

That said I think all major cities are a magnet for crime. Mabe it's the amount of people % in a small area.

It's also true a lot more idiots/thugs are going to Thailand than before. A great influence :o Information on the net about the west just makes more thai students act like thier mentors.

That being said there is still no comparison to crime in the UK and if you are smart enough not to assume everything is always rosy in BKK you should be fine. A little common sense and awareness will go a long way to keeping you safe anywhere in the world.

Having been to many countries I still maintain Thailand is one of the safest places I have lived in.

Unfortunate situations can happen to anyone and one eye always open is a good idea wherever you are.

As for owning guns! :D you must be some kind of nut in the first place.

Finally, someone who can put things into perspective. It's much more unsafe here in California than it is in Thailand. People also tend to conduct themselves like bitter <deleted> on day to day affairs. I sure do miss that Thai smile..even if it's phony 75% of the time the thais still believe in basic courtesy. This is something that's becoming increasingly rare in the U.S. at least.

  9. Ahhh yes the Thai food markets. I remember having the worst diarreah and fever ever in my life after consuming a bowl of innocuous looking beef noodles one night. I thought I might need a trip to the hospital but after a week of bedrest I managed to recoup.

  10. No it is not a farang desease - it is just that in many of the countries you mentioned above, pedophilia is either allowed, ignored, or so common it doesn't make the head lines.

    Sad, but true.

That's a pretty racist way to spin things. I don't know any country in asia where pedophilia is expressly allowed or even viewed in a manner aside from disgust.

  11. True. I was once stopped by a guy from Qatar who was asking me for help on how to make an International call from a public phone. We spoke a lil while and he was saying he had come to TH for good, affordable hi-tech medical care.

Haha is "good affordable high tech medical care" the latest codeword for prostitution?

  12. Ridiculous over simplification using stereotypes which as we all know don't exist.

Some people like to go out on weekends and on holidays and have a bit fun to break up the tedium of the everyday work week. They also like to stay out later than midnight. They don't fit into either of your models 1 or 2.

Then we have tourists who happen to be on holidays and would like to have some fun and enjoy themselves as well.

Tourism is a huge money spinner for LOS.

Do you think tourists should all be in bed by 11?

At 4.40 am when this incident happened someone could well have been on their way to work. They may well have had nothing to do with any night life action or drinking.

Simplistic scenarios like the one presented above appeal to many who like to view issues in black and white terms and who are not prepared to think life might just be a little more complicated than presented as above.

To be honest most Thais would probably prefer not to have the "tourist" who stays out past midnight to enjoy the "nightlife." They want family package tourists who go to beaches, stay at resorts, see the wats and cultural sites, buy lots of useless trinkets, eat at local restaurants and then happily get on the next plane back to wherever they came from.

  13. If you live for years as part of population #2, it is statistically almost certain that you are going to eventually be in the wrong place at the wrong time - and pay a heavy price. You are going to have a much bleaker view of Bangkok, and wonder what is wrong with someone who reports "suuny days and blue skies" from the other (daytime) world.

I've lived in Bangkok going on six years. 95% of all bad incidents I have seen since coming here occurred between 11:00 pm and 3:00 am - and I have no idea what hapopens after 3:00 am. I decided years ago to generally try to be off the streets by midnight - and live longer. Nowadays, I almost never see any trouble - because I'm home before it starts.

    Cheers!

    Indo-Siam

Well stated. In fact i'd say most of the expat whining on this forum and others like it are probably from population #2. I can't even begin to count the number of tired old geezers i've met whining about Thailand this or that when all they do is spend their days holed up in a farang bar fondling hardcore prostitutes pissing away their pension.

  14. Well we are all entitled to our opinions.

Dosen't do any good talking about it. nothing will change much here for a very long time. corruption and underhandedness is the way of life.

the honeymoon bubble will burst eventually for the newbies and the perfect smiles will be seen for what they really are.

    me thinks. opinion also.

Why do people blame the thais is anyone's guess. There are more shady farang scum per sqm in Thailand than just about any other country on earth except maybe Folsom prison here in California. Of course not all farang are like this but a high enough percentage are which warrants a nonchalant shrug from myself at the demise of a couple.

  15. Go for the jugular beach bunny!

I agree totally. I am just as small if not smaller than many Thai women here... but, it's the shape. We have hips and shoulders and things! Also, it's not the size that counts. I find it difficult to find clothes here at a reasonable price that don't make me look like a farang woman in disguise as a Thai lady!

And when I do have clothes "tailor-made"... I look like BAG LADY :o when in actual fact I have a great figure. Difficult!

What makes me laugh is that some of you hate it when people say that all western women are fat but whenever a thai woman's physique is mentioned some of you women get downright catty. Implying that Thai women have no hips or shoulders and "things" betrays your true feelings on the issue. Honestly i've seen more Thai women with figures than the shapeless obese masses back in the states. I can make an apt comparison because I am back in California right now fresh from Thailand.

Oh and before I get flamed, I don't blame western women for their physiques because it's mostly genetics and a western diet filled with butter, oil, and fat. Not to mention the lack of exercise or daily commuter lifestyle that causes most of the population to resemble hippos out on the lake. There needs to be a reality check though, if lots of people say you are fat then chances are you are fat. Words like "plus sized" "big and beautiful" are just code words for obesity. You can either choose to be happy with being fat or work to slim down. I have no problems with another person's decision but some of you really do come across as having a major chip on your shoulder.

  16. Well, maybe in Bangkok everyone is teeny weeny but down here many of the women are the same size as me (I wear a medium at home, an XL here, go figure) or larger. I am hardly large even by Thai standards. One of our staff is short (under 5'!) but buxom. She has a heck of a time finding clothes. Here, at least, the older women wear sarongs. ugh. I buy my clothes at home, they are a better quality, last longer and fit better.

I think the idea that all Thai women are small is a fallacy, at least here in the South where the women (and men) tend to be bigger. My sister-in-law is taller than my husband (she wears muu-muus, double ugh).

The reason why women in the southern provinces are fatter is because of the malay ancestry. Malays are generally a lot fatter than their northern Thai cousins who have the typical sim petite build.

  17. This will surely deter quite a few tourists from coming. Expect this to be in the local Singapore newspaper and for tourists cancelling their trips here. What a shame.

And what about the foreigners living here, what if someone who doesn't understand thai (that would be the majority of us) were made to sign documents? What would you do? Actually, the more obvious question is what is the police doing about this but I don't know if we'll get an answer that'll be enforced...

In my opinion it's a situation where i'd have to say "tough sh_t". If you go to a foreign country you should be expected to know what you're getting into. This idea that all people should be accomodated and babied because they are foreigners is ridiculous. I hate when it happens in the west and I hate when it happens here in Thailand too. It's not OUR country it's Thailand and last time I checked the overwhelming majority of people in this country speak and write Thai.

  18. It's all about girls and sex. Let's face it.

Umm, wrong. Pattaya is widely considered more favorable destination in that department. So someone who chooses Bangkok over Pattaya probably has other priorities.

Same sex tourist mission just a different hunting ground.

  19. The grass is always greener on the other side. Some backpacker girls aren't too bad. Not all of them look like wideassed yetis, some are pretty ###### hot if you visit the right places. Don't ask the usual bitter jaded western expat/sex tourist though, most are hateful towards western women in general and wear rose tinted glasses when it comes to thai women. Thai girls can be just as ugly or materialistic as western women they just don't wear it on their sleeve which sometimes makes them more dangerous.

  20. At least you can have a bit of fun at cm2

bed and Q are boring .

I had the privelige of going to the Miss UNI after party at Narcissus end may.

What amazed me about the hiso tryhard thai gals there was they all had plastic chins, noses, tits, etc etc .Hiso Boys well nuff said ....spoilt little plonkers that havent done a days work in their lives.

Dont know why they want to look like some kind of ersatsz falang.

Some looked like freaks or ladyboys.

What cracks me up is how some of them go over the top in their efforts to look like they are hip or cultured. I grew up in California and there were plenty of phoney people but the hi so crowd in Thailand often take it to another level. The worst trend is the plastic surgery crap being done. Hello ladies, most guys aren't attracted to your fake looking (and feeling) 50k baht or whatever boob job.
