  1. Hi,

I met folk in Thailand who are based there and work abroad in e.g. Africa or work online consulting but for work for companies outside of Thailand. The issue with O&G is you need the magic 10 years to be given the ticket to go anyway (in most cases). I was offered an interview with a Norwegian company to work in Norway for 1 year. It was good money but didn't want to leave the kids or bring them with me (too expensive - worked there before). There seems to be a few job flying round for Europe but trying to get to the US or Asia seems like its a privilege.

I also have a MSc in renewables (not blowing my own trumpet :)) but realised that the renewable industry pays sh*t so seems like sticking with O&G is better for the money but comes with its own issues of working in a rubbish location and/or leaving my family for work.

Just seeing whether anyone else was going through the same issue and if they could advise on the best way forward?

    Regards,

    Chris

  2. Thanks for the reply,

Yes looked at Fircroft, Orion etc and it seems due to low oil price and covid i will be competing for 500 other folk anyways if a job ever pops up. That combined with an apparent Thai locals only regime its seems impossible.

What do u think, keep trying or find another route (ie Asia but just not Thailand, teach :), or retirement fund)?

    Regards,

    Chris

  3. Hi there,

Taught English in Thailand 10 years ago, moved back to UK with family to get wife passport. Got MSc, Wells Completion Engineer - 7 years. Want to move back to Thailand. Literally seen 2 jobs in last year on oilandgasjobsearch.com, oilcareers.com, linkedin.

Can anyone recommend the best places to look for onshore oil jobs for Thailand. Any advice for my predicament - fancy living in Thailand instead of other well known oil areas worldwide. Don’t want to teach again.

    Regards,

    Chris

  4. So to close this topic out, my wife was required to obtain a transit visa on her way back through Ireland. It's an absolute joke how the capital city of Ireland's main airport doesn't have transit. So I paid for her to come through Dubai via Emirates and she traveled back to the UK on her own. Summary: Don't fly via Ireland, get British Passport as quick as possible as the Thai passport is useless. Rant over :) Thanks for the replies.

  5. Thanks for the quick reply,

So she will next to go through security again, which is fine. Yep everyone is required to have an Ireland visa from Thailand who have a UK spouse visa, it’s insane. I will ring Etihad just now.

Just to confirm, she will go to Dubai and stay in the airport and fly to UK. So she will need to go through security again but doesn’t need to go through immigration?

    Regards,

    Chris

  6. Hi,

We are currently on holiday in Thailand and returning back to the UK soon. I am a British citizen and my wife has a Thai Passport with a UK spouse visa. We have two children and have been living in the UK for 4 years. When we first flew to Bangkok from the UK we went to Ireland, Dublin and then Abu Dhabi. When we entered Ireland when had to go through immigration as they don’t have a transit facility which meant we needed to exit into Ireland and come back into the airport. As my wife has a Thai passport she was give a warning and let through as she is required to have an Ireland visa. I didn’t realize this. Now I have to pay for another flight just for her travel alone back to the UK. If she travels from Bangkok to Dubai and then to Manchester, are there any issues with this?

    Hope you can help?

    Best regards,

    Chris

  7. Hi, I have been offered a position as a day rater (own business) working for a company in France. My wife and children would stay in the UK and my Thai wife has her Leave-to-remain visa (been in UK for 3 and half years). With the current situation with Brexit, is it possible for myself to still sponsor her as the plan is for my base to be in the UK?

    Regards,

    Chris

  8. Hi,

I am just checking to see once my Thai wife who has Leave to Remain receives her Indefinite Leave to Remain (5 year route) will see be able to apply for naturalisation straight away or will she need to wait for 1 year once receiving the IRL?

    Hope you can help.

    Best regards,

    Chris

  9. Hi,

My wife has been in the UK for 3 years now. She has been given an extension to stay for another 2 1/2 years. For the next visa application on the 5 year route, for the financial requirement can she apply with 9,300 GBP/year from myself (sponsor) and 9,300 GBP/year from my wife - 18,600/2 GBP/year?

As according to Appendix FM 1.7:
Income from salaried or non-salaried employment of the partner (and/or the applicant if they are in the UK with permission to work). This is referred to as Category A or Category B, depending on the employment history. See section 5 of this guidance.

I am looking to make a career change in this relaxed period but as a worst case if unable to find work just making sure we are able to get her British passport.

    Hope you can help.

    Regards,

    Chris

  10. Thank you for the reply,

Yes that is a tricky one. Currently we haven't moved forward with my step daughter's application as there are so many variables. One example is - I am fully employed with a secure job but what if? What if I lost my job, currently I don't have enough contingencies in place to make it secure for her experience to move to the UK. But if in the future we do proceed I will share my experience and knowledge. Thanks.

With regards to the statement, 'However, there is nothing in the rules to say that you cannot work abroad during this period while your wife remains in the UK: provided you, yourself, remains a UK resident'. If I am not paying tax in the UK due to working in another country for 9 months then technically I am not residing in the UK. Is this the case?

    Best regards,

    Chris

  11. Hi there,

I am a British citizen with a family of two married to a Thai national. My wife has been in the UK for 2 and half years and we are preparing to apply for the stay-to remain visa where 2 and half years after that she would be entitled to a British passport.

I am just enquirying to see what the implications on my wife's visa would be if I found work in another country. I would still visit them 2-3 months of the year and help everything financially.

    Best regards,

    Chris

  12. Let me try to make it clearer. My wife has been in the uk since May 2015 on a spouse visa. Prior to that she took care of her daughter in thailand. twice she came to the uk on a holiday visa, whilst in the uk her grandma took care of her daughter. Now she is on the spouse visa in the uk it was decided that her daughtersfather took care, however the father dosent want to take care now and the daughter is missing her mother. this is why i want to fetch the daughter over. Thankyou in advance for your input

  13. Thanks for the reply,

Yes sorry she has a 'leave to remain' (spouse visa). From my understanding we will apply for further leave to remain in 1 year and then the passport 2 and half years after that. Her daughter is with her father and my wife's mother, according to:

'If the sponsoring parent and child are separated, the child will normally be expected to have been in the care of the sponsoring parent’s relatives rather than the relatives of the other parent.'

Are we able to swing this?

    Regards,

    Chris

  14. Hi there and happy new year,

I am a British citizen, 27 years old and earning ~50k a year. 1 year and a half ago my wife received her permanent spouse visa, so she needs to wait another 3 and half years for the British passport. We have two children who have both Thai and British passports. My wife has a Thai daughter from a previous marriage, she is 12 years old. Is there a way for us to allow her to stay with us in the UK via a permanent visa? She currently lives with her Thai father in Thailand - this being a mutual agreement.

    Best regards,

    Chris
