  1. Hi,

I met folk in Thailand who are based there and work abroad in e.g. Africa or work online consulting but for work for companies outside of Thailand. The issue with O&G is you need the magic 10 years to be given the ticket to go anyway (in most cases). I was offered an interview with a Norwegian company to work in Norway for 1 year. It was good money but didn't want to leave the kids or bring them with me (too expensive - worked there before). There seems to be a few job flying round for Europe but trying to get to the US or Asia seems like its a privilege.

I also have a MSc in renewables (not blowing my own trumpet :)) but realised that the renewable industry pays sh*t so seems like sticking with O&G is better for the money but comes with its own issues of working in a rubbish location and/or leaving my family for work.

Just seeing whether anyone else was going through the same issue and if they could advise on the best way forward?

    Regards,

    Chris

  2. Thanks for the reply,

Yes looked at Fircroft, Orion etc and it seems due to low oil price and covid i will be competing for 500 other folk anyways if a job ever pops up. That combined with an apparent Thai locals only regime its seems impossible.

What do u think, keep trying or find another route (ie Asia but just not Thailand, teach :), or retirement fund)?

    Regards,

    Chris

  3. Hi there,

Taught English in Thailand 10 years ago, moved back to UK with family to get wife passport. Got MSc, Wells Completion Engineer - 7 years. Want to move back to Thailand. Literally seen 2 jobs in last year on oilandgasjobsearch.com, oilcareers.com, linkedin.

Can anyone recommend the best places to look for onshore oil jobs for Thailand. Any advice for my predicament - fancy living in Thailand instead of other well known oil areas worldwide. Don’t want to teach again.

    Regards,

    Chris

  4. Thank you for the reply,

Yes that is a tricky one. Currently we haven't moved forward with my step daughter's application as there are so many variables. One example is - I am fully employed with a secure job but what if? What if I lost my job, currently I don't have enough contingencies in place to make it secure for her experience to move to the UK. But if in the future we do proceed I will share my experience and knowledge. Thanks.

With regards to the statement, 'However, there is nothing in the rules to say that you cannot work abroad during this period while your wife remains in the UK: provided you, yourself, remains a UK resident'. If I am not paying tax in the UK due to working in another country for 9 months then technically I am not residing in the UK. Is this the case?

    Best regards,

    Chris

  5. Hi there,

I am a British citizen with a family of two married to a Thai national. My wife has been in the UK for 2 and half years and we are preparing to apply for the stay-to remain visa where 2 and half years after that she would be entitled to a British passport.

I am just enquirying to see what the implications on my wife's visa would be if I found work in another country. I would still visit them 2-3 months of the year and help everything financially.

    Best regards,

    Chris

  6. Let me try to make it clearer. My wife has been in the uk since May 2015 on a spouse visa. Prior to that she took care of her daughter in thailand. twice she came to the uk on a holiday visa, whilst in the uk her grandma took care of her daughter. Now she is on the spouse visa in the uk it was decided that her daughtersfather took care, however the father dosent want to take care now and the daughter is missing her mother. this is why i want to fetch the daughter over. Thankyou in advance for your input

  7. Thanks for the reply,

Yes sorry she has a 'leave to remain' (spouse visa). From my understanding we will apply for further leave to remain in 1 year and then the passport 2 and half years after that. Her daughter is with her father and my wife's mother, according to:

'If the sponsoring parent and child are separated, the child will normally be expected to have been in the care of the sponsoring parent’s relatives rather than the relatives of the other parent.'

Are we able to swing this?

    Regards,

    Chris

  8. Hi there and happy new year,

I am a British citizen, 27 years old and earning ~50k a year. 1 year and a half ago my wife received her permanent spouse visa, so she needs to wait another 3 and half years for the British passport. We have two children who have both Thai and British passports. My wife has a Thai daughter from a previous marriage, she is 12 years old. Is there a way for us to allow her to stay with us in the UK via a permanent visa? She currently lives with her Thai father in Thailand - this being a mutual agreement.

    Best regards,

    Chris

  9. Hi,

I am currently applying for my wife's visa and have just spent 1 and half weeks waiting for my bank statements. They finally came and were dated from July to 6th February 2015. I have been working in a good job from the 1st September 2014 till date. I get paid on the 15th of every month and knew that once I had 6 wage slips and 6 months bank statements showing this I could apply for my wife's visa. The bank is a joke, sent me the wrong ones I ordered and know I have to wait again. I have the bank statements online from the 6th till date. Can I use them for my wife's visa. The heading is with the banks name, with the date, my name and the transactions.

    Please advise.

  10. We have decide I will go back alone to the minimum wage job and process the visa when i am in the uk, 4 weeks into the british passport being done. I will go through the same method as before but with my grandad sponsering her. I feel confident this will suffice because she returned the last time and she will return again as we want a settlement visa later on. Also, I have read that the courts are deciding if to reduce the amount of annual income to around 13000 pound. fingers crossed.

  11. When we applied the first time we didn't mention anything about returning to the uk. Just that she would be come for a family holiday visit. I couldn't upload as a file so below is what I sent last time, which was satisfactory.

RE: Letter of sponsorship for application of General Visa for Narissaraporn….

    Dear Sir/ Madam,

I am Mr Christopher…, holder of British Passport No… and resident of the above address.

I wish to sponsor my Wife Narissaraporn for a general holiday visa to the United Kingdom.

I first met Narissaraporn in October 2010 through a friend, after being together for 11 months we had a son together on the 24th September 2011. His name is Alexander… and he is nine months old. We got married on the 17th October 2011 and have been living together in Bangkok ever since. I have enclosed photographs and the original wedding certificate.

My history of Thailand is I first came for a holiday in May 2010 and quickly realised how much I love this country and chose to come back and spend as much time as possible here. So I came back in September 2010 and stayed for a longer holiday; however I hadn’t finished my degree so four months after I met Narissaraporn I went back to the UK to finish my exams that I needed to pass in January. When I passed I achieved my Bachelors Degree and was ready to come back to Thailand where I stayed with Narissaraporn in May 2011. In June 2011, I found work at Patai Udom Suksa School where I was given a contract to become an English teacher for one year. Since then we have been living at the same rented town house with my son and wife in Bangkok. However, we will be moving to stay in Chonburi at the end of the month because my contract at Patai has finished and I will be returning back to the UK in two weeks time. I am also currently in the process of getting my son a British Passport. I have enclosed my work visa, rented town house contract and degree certificate.

My mother has deposited 8000 pounds into my account to help with air flights. I have enclosed my 6 months bank statements to show this. However, due to living and working in Thailand for 1 year I haven’t used my bank account recently. I have been earning gross 32,000 baht each month, which I put into my wife’s bank account. I have enclosed my wife’s 6 month bank statement and a written letter from the school that I worked at.

The main reason I want Narissaraporn to come to England with me is that I have been offered a job with Ray McGough as an Electrical Engineering assistant; I have accepted this position until I find a job in my chosen career as a Civil Engineer. Enclosed is evidence of my offer of employment.

I would miss my son and wife dreadfully if I have to return to England alone. She is an honest caring mother whom I love very dearly. Since living in Bangkok we have made many friends together, I have enclosed one reference from our dearest friend Narong… , in a hope to prove to you that we are a genuine couple. When we go to England we will be staying at… . This house belongs to my Mother, Karen and she has written a letter expressing her willingness and hope that we stay with her for the whole holiday.

I would also like Narissaraporn to meet my family especially my father. My mother has visited Thailand and approves of my marriage to Narissaraporn. She is a nurse in the UK and is married to a Thai Husband, where they have been together for about 2 years and 6 months. Our long term plan is to find a house in either Thailand or England where I can work and take care of my family for our future.

    Enclosed documents are:

    1. 6 months bank statements
    2. Marriage Certificate
    3. Reference letter from a dearest friend
    4. Work reference guaranteeing me work
    5. Passport details, from myself and Narissaraporn
    6. Narissaraporn I.D card
    7. Information about Narissaraporn’s family
    8. Proof of job position within Patai Udom Suksa School
    9. One year Contract from Land Lord of Town House
    10. Flight details e-ticket
    11. Pictures
    12. Written letter from Husband’s Mother
    13. Ray Mcgouge statement dates and stuff
    14. Birth Certificates
    15. Divorce Certificate
    16. Utility Bills

    Yours Sincerely

I believe this was our way of getting a visa. 'Even if there is no 'concrete' reason to return, many people have obtained a UK visit visa based upon the strength of their relationship with their sponsor. If the ECO believes the relationship to be genuine then they will also believe that the applicant would not want to jeopardise future applications, such as settlement, by overstaying or otherwise breaching the conditions of a visit visa'.

    Regards,

    Chris

  12. Hi, my name is Chris Blackwell and I am married to a thai women. We have two children together, a 2 year old boy and a 1 month old girl and have been married for 2 years. I would like to acquire a visa for her to stay in the uk for 6 months. I am working full time on minimum wage. I am currently in thailand and will return with my son who has both passports. When I return with my son I will reduce my hours to 22 a week. I will eventually claim benefits for a while as a single parent. My wife has been to the uk before but we had 10k in the bank and promise of a job on entering the uk for myself. Now the circumstances have changed. I have 1k in the bank and at this time a full time job in the uk. How should I proceed? I also have a grandad who has 50k + in the bank and is willing to sponser my wife. Is this possible with claiming benefits? I have just been to the birtish embassy for my daughter's passport which will take about 6 weeks to receive.

    Best regards,

  13. Guide to visa processing times

You can apply for your visa within three months of your intended date of travel. We are only able to post-date visas by a maximum of three months from the date of the decision on your visa application. You can enter the UK anytime after your visa issue date but not before.

Note that the visa issue date is the date it starts from, not the date it is issued. So if he asks for it to be postdated and his visa is issued before the requested date, he wont be able to use it until the date he asked for.

more advise, if i put in my explanation letter all the reasons why i want him to come with me in jan, but then say i understand you like it to be 6 months for each visit so i,ll leave it up to you,, do oyu think this is good or do they want specific

  14. You would be her sponsor as you would be the reason for her visiting the UK. But your grandfather can provide the funds for the visit.

    See UK Visit Visa Basics.

But she probably wont be able to return to the UK immediately. There is a convention which says that a visitor should not usually spend more than 6 months out of any 12 in the UK. This is a convention, not a rule, and in some circumstances a visitor may be allowed longer periods in the UK than this. But from what you have said, I cannot see an exception being made in your wife's case.

So, if she spends six months in the UK on this visit there would be little point in applying for another visit visa until she has been out of the UK for at least 6 months as it would probably be refused.

Your baby presumably has both a Thai and a British passport and so, of course, wont need a visa and has no restrictions on his stay in the UK.

I have to ask; as you say you originally came to the UK to work, why did your wife apply for a visit and not for settlement?

because i lived in bangkok for a year teaching maths so i didnt meet all the financial requirements. i really didnt think i,d get a visitor visa but was lucky with my mums support

  15. I don't it will be easy for you to do what you wasnt to do in fact the short answer is probably no, you cannot normally extend a tourist visa.

There was a similar thread recently where somebody was asking about extending a Tourist Visa, http://www.thaivisa....-circumstances/

Thankfully your position is not the same as this, save that you want to extend a tourist visa. I think that you will find that a tourist visa is just that, for tourists, it's not designed for your wife to live in the UK whilst you improve your degree

From what you have said, because of your status, ie no money, I doubt if you could get a settlement visa, and currently third party support is not permitted.

One of the experts will no doubt advise later, but there do seem to be some challenges to current Government policy.

thanks for your reply,,,my grandad has sufficient funds, so if my wife and child returned back to thailand could he sponser her for another visitor visa

  16. hi

i came to england with my thai wife and baby on a tourist visa. i had the promise of work but this fell through. i have a degree in engineering but finding it really difficult to get work as a graduate. i decided my best option was to go back to uni and complete a masters which takes 1 year. my problem now is my family, i have no savings and no income, my family are supporting me and my family. i do not want to lose my family or see my son not grow up for another year, is there a way i can extend a visit visa, my family and friends have said they will help but unsure if they can. or if they come back to thailand can i obtain another visit visa, they will be staying in england 6 months and i believe that is the limit, but surly if i have a good reason ( my son cannot see his father ) and my family will support me, would this not be enough. thankyou
