  1. Sad when greed, the lack of basic moral standards and a sick mind get together. As for the guy, they should lock him up and give photos of his own siblings and all youngsters in his family to his fellow paedophile inmates...

Your suggestion that his own siblings and all the youngsters in his family, all totally innocent of any wrongdoing, should now be abused puts you on his level, I hope you are ashamed of yourself, but that's the trouble with the "hang 'em high" brigade, their lust for vengeance gets out of hand.

    Amen Cat.

  2. This is what happens when you tug on Superman's cape. You get banged up over someone losing face and have to grovel for your freedom. The whole story is preposterous.

I think Maudid had it spot on. What really happened? A Smart Ass Swiss Girl steps on some Thai Toes and now must eat what ever humble pie that is served. It called "This is my country. don't forget it. And remember to smile."

In other words I don't trust the official account.

  3. I am going to spend a few days in Bangkok. I don't trust the taxis to show up on time or at all to take me to the airport as I live outside CM. I am thinking about driving in myself and parking at the airport. This would be my first time leaving my car there by itself. I usually am picking up people or dropping them off and I am not very informed about the procedure or rates of parking my car. Any information and/safety tips will be appreciated. It might be straight forward and simple. But I take nothing for granted in Thailand. I have been suprised too often by assuming.

  4. date rape drug?

my god, you'd have to chew a handful to make that work, no?

Same should be done in the US. Do a crime with a weapon no matter if it is a knife or gun get an extra 15 years non parole eligible added on to what ever the crime is.

Money don't grow on trees. Who is going to pay for the extra jail time. We have more people in jail in the US than any other country. And it is breaking the bank. Every person in jail is a tax payer's burden.

  5. The individual store managers have discretion and can obtain items not stocked at the other stores. They'll also get something from another store brought to their store for you.

As much as I love Rim Ping, I've got to admit, though, that Tops has a better selection of cleaning supplies. Don't know about hypoalleric laundry detergent. Maybe there's something in the baby care section for laundering baby clothes.

I will check out Tops and in baby care. I have tried some baby detergent from big C. Amazingly I also have the itch with that. . In the States I just used All clear. No problems. I had no idea how sensitive to laundry detergent I am. Frustrating.

  6. I was wondering if i should go to different Rimpings in hopes of finding a more variety of imported goods. I usually go to Mee Chok plaza's Rimping. I find it a little small and the selections of cleaning supplies limited. I am particularly looking for IMPORTED (if i can find it) no scented hypoallergenic laundry detergent. I have found some locally made no scented stuff at Bann Suan Pak that still gives me the hee-bee jee-bees. Rimping Mee Chok also has local no scented stuff that I don't like. (makes me itch.) I was wondering if the other Rimpings are bigger and perhaps has more variety.

  7. I don't need my nails just trimmed I need harden skin ( callouses) attended to also. (Back in the States they use some kind of file.) they would soak and wash my feet. I got a pedicure here and it sucked I even had to request a moisturizer afterward. No brainer? I need to take care of my feet. I need a good pedicure once a month. Basically the lady soaked my feet and trimmed my nails. I am used to better care in the States. I know I can get a better job done in CM but where?

Basically I am looking for a pedicurist that will at least.......

File toenails straight across, rounding them slightly at the corners to conform to the shape of the toe. Use the toenail nippers to remove the underside of the corners so they will not 'dig' into my flesh.

Give a me a foot bath and allow my feet to soak for at least a few minutes.

Apply cuticle remover and massage it into the cuticle and if loose cuticle skin is apparent, remove it by nipping with the cuticle nippers, being careful not to cut any live tissue. They need to know to gently push back the cuticle a little and clean under the edge.

Scrub feet and toenails with a nail brush being sure to cleanse the nail and underneath its edge.

Deal with the build up of calloused skin with skilled use of a file. And know this needs to take multiple sessions with me over some time because my callouses are still pretty deep.

    Massage and moisturize my feet.

Is there any reliable place to get a good job done?

Maybe a podiatrist will be the best bet? If so, where should I look for one of them?

  8. Due to a laundry mishap that has rendered most of my clothes unusable... I need to find a few XXXL items to tide me over. I particularly need tee shirts as I live in them. I know I can get some short sleeved dress shirts made to order. Is there anywhere I can get some XXXL tees off the rack? Is there a big and tall man shop hiding somewhere in or near CM?

  9. Lastly. Compensation is given for disabilities that are proven that had STARTED in military service or disabilities aggravated by military service. If your brother can prove he had an ailment that started while in service and that disables him in some capacity now he can be compensated for it. A disability can be rated 10-100% and monetarily awarded accordingly.

  10. It sounds very much like he has never actually applied for any VA benefits. He may have talked to a VA rep on the phone and gotten certain advice which may or may not be valid. If he had physical or mental impairments directly related to his military service, this should have been documented in his military medical record during his service or shortly thereafter. Trying to make a claim now that his disabilities are related to his service 40 years ago is a long shot -- and the burden of proof is on him. Yes, the VA is backlogged but this is mostly due to Iraq/Afghanistan era vets. The VA does not get "millions" of applications each year. The U.S. total active service right now is about 1.5M personnel, and most with disabilities are adjudicated within a few years after discharge. They greatly taper off, and not too many Vietnam vets are seeking first-time benefits at this stage in their life.

This isn't meant to discourage him from trying. To the contrary, what I suggest is he stop talking about it, and actually apply for benefits. No one from VA will "sponsor him"; that is not their job. He might want to consult a lawyer or other advocate to help him collect evidence of the nature of a service-related disability. Truthfully, if he was able to amass a personal fortune of $7M after his military service, then it sounds like he was functioning just fine at one point in life. His psychological issues might have cropped up later, making it more difficult to claim that this is all due to military service.

Here is the deal from my experience. There are plenty of people that are successful and have some kind of mental condition that finally renders them disabled. I have started receiving VA disability compensation only recently. 35 years after my service. I have a friend who has started to get his comp benefits even more recently and he was a Vietnam veteran and he is getting it for PTSD. It is not a long shot. He needs to apply and create a paper trail of some kind connecting his current disability to his military service. It is not hard but he needs to put in a little work. If he is diagnosed as PTSD and is taking Medication and have treatment records for a disabling mental condition (which I am sure he has if he is getting SS disability) he is half way there. He needs to order his military medical records. If he has any thing in them particularly of a mental nature that would be the beginning of a claim. That would be the beginning of his paper trail. It is very important to have it documented from his service time. If he only has documented PTSD or mental symptoms that had started after service that can work too. If he is diagnosed as PTSD there is an assumption that it is Service related he just has to "prove" with documentation (a paper trail) that it has bothered him most of his time after service with various degrees of disability until he is totally disabled at the present time. Documentation is the key and just has to lean in his favor. Don't go crazy over this and think every single thing must be documented. (It is nice if everything is,though.) If he was treated for any mental condition and received medication and this is documented in his military service medical records he is in like Flinn. This is almost a 100% positive chance of his claim being approved since he is presently disabled for a mental condition. A professional advocacy group will look at his case and will take it on if they think they can win his claim. They will take out their fee from his back pay. If he is incapable of focusing and doing it himself let them do it for him. Go to the online forum for vets Hadit.com there are advertisements there and any answers to any questions you or he might have. He can also ask questions from vets that has been successful in winning their claim. Not all homeless veteran assistance program /houses/per diem programs are the same and some are abusive, highly regimented and demeaning. I would recommend the program called Operation Dignity in Oakland/ Alameda CA. My friend went to another one in Palo Altos CA. It was no picnic. Seven men to a room. I had my own room in OD and it really matters having a place to yourself. He had programs throughout the day. I had my days to myself. If you are a self starter and need freedom a program like OD in Oakland is the best. But even that was no picnic. The best thing about being in one of those programs is that officially you are considered by the VA as being homeless. Your paperwork has priority. From the time I applied and got my final decision was 10 months. The last thing is different states are different. His best chance is in a progressive state. Remember VA are full of people with their own social agenda. If a person believes in Small government and is resentful of anyone receiving any money from the government that person might view the same documents differently than a more liberal minded person. FYI. GOOD LUCK TO HIM AND THANK HIM FOR HIS SERVICE. He deserves every benefit that he has coming to him.

  11. I am having a privacy issue. I live in a Moo Baan and the houses seem close together. And the windows face each other so everyone keep their curtains drawn for privacy. I love natural light. I have decided to use 5' tall potted plants on my patio to block the view so I don't feel like I am on display drinking my morning coffee outside on the patio. Also I want to put bamboo blinders up on the patio's rafters so I can open the curtains of my double door windows and not see the neighbors across the street. Where do I go to get potted plants and where can I get inexpensive bamboo blinders that roll up and down? I got these ideas from an earlier post. If there are any more good ideas to get privacy I welcome them.

  12. Get landlord to sort electrical issues, consider buying small tree's potted variety, hanging baskets for balcony.

If that's no good flit and loose the deposit.

Even a good landlord would expect recompense,ie deposit,as he has to find a new tenant.

Thank you for very helpful suggestions. Responses like yours and Jacktrip is why I post at Thaivisa.

  13. you should rent the place for a month at a higher rate then sign the year lease if possible. many places will allow it.

this allows for unforseen problems to emerge. like mosquitos, sexpat neighbors and other nuisances that can be hard for foreigners or newcomers to see.

Thanks this suggest has been helpful. Next time I will do that. I didn't think that was possible.

To others that are judgmental and not really helpful. Let me add my situation is fine. What situation is absolutely perfect? My friend keeps bugging me and I wanted FACTUAL info about getting out of a lease not a lot of judgement. I wanted info so she would stop bugging me and info for the future. Thanks jacktrip. I am not in crises or pulling my hair out or depressed. There is a ton of good features that my home has and it is working for me. Just looking for info from knowledgable people.

  14. Sort of a rehash of your earlier post.

Hope you do some better ground work next time....I mean its not like trees are installed after you have viewed the rental, or the block size gets smaller, or the neighbours closer.

Essentially you have changed your mind and want to break lease with no penalty at the very start of the lease, not that fair on the owner who really is the innocent party in this.

If you are that concerned why not talk with owner now and see if you can leave, or if they have suitable alternate property, or even get a partial refund of deposit.

Perhaps look for another place at over next month and not pay rent (which again isn't that fair), or same after seeing owner, (ie live out deposit period while doing a more thorough search for a better fit next time).

Repercussions depends on a lot of things....are you planning in staying in same area, who is owner and wider family, how well do you know them or get on with them (is relationship just for month of property),is an agent involved etc.

Legal wise I would say minimal, you break lease you lose deposit, having said that the owner does have the right to seek to have contract enforced (but depending on sum involved, affluence, how long property has been empty or is likely to be, personality of owner/family,) is unlikely. I have seen an owner pursue a breach successfully as they themselves had made commitments based upon that income (vehicle purchase by bank loan, and bank suggested he pursue).

Thanks for showing me my other post. I tried to find it and for some reason I couldn't and thought it did not post. This is a rehash. Now I will read the earlier post. Mistakes happen.

  15. I have rented a nice home in a moo Baan in Sansai. I have been in the home less than 30 days. I am having recurring electrical issues and having problems with privacy. (The home is too close to others and not enough foliage to block the view. I feel like I am on display when sitting on my patio.) . A friend of mine has said that I can get out of my lease within the first 30 days and receive my deposit back even though it does not stipulate this in my contract. I think this is utter fantasy but not knowing everything and being wrong before when I thought I was right and in humility and hope I have decided to come to Thaivisa to see what the good folks here have to say and rationally settle the matter.

My other question is if I decide to break the lease and move and give up the deposit what are the repercussions if any besides losing almost 1000 USD. Of course I wouldn't want to do that but I am just wondering. Thanks for the input ahead of time.

  16. I am having electrical problems with my new home that I am renting. I have been in the house less than a month and have signed a 12 month lease. But there seems to be electrical problems. In essence the circuit breaker trips without warning and turns off everything in the whole house. This is happening more and more. The landlord is slow in responding. I am peeved and unhappy. What renters rights do I have? A friend says I can get out of my lease if less than 30 days. Is this true?

  17. Let's get back to the subject, ok? I took my test this morning, a joke really, and got through, I am really and truly happy that I have a Thai DL. This is a generally accepted means of identification, I don't want to carry my passport with me at all times as required by law.

I pulled string around to align two pegs, did a reaction test, assured them that I wasn't colour blind (you can cheat) and was called out of the room where they were showing a one hour film to get my license before everyone else (I have been driving fot 40 years after all and can't understand Thai). Easy, ฿200.- I think. So no need to worry , just get a Thai license before they get serious about driving tests.

Yes, it's easier to just get the license than read through this thread and try to make sense of the conflicting recommendations. In the words of Nike, "Just do it."

    I will.

Thanks for being so helpful everyone.

  18. I have a 3 brm 3bath fully furnished detached house in a land and house moo Baan in San Sai/ Mae Jo about 15-25 minutes from the old city. Beautiful neighborhood . Two security checkpoints to my house. 30 baht a day extra Club house privileges with pool, jacuzzi, sauna, treadmills, weight machine and free weights. Modern kitchen with oven and stove. Extractor fan above stove. Washing machine, AC in master bedroom and living room only and two car carport, completely fenced with moderate garden/yard. I just rented it for a year for 18000 baht a month. Many people I talk to say I got beat. Now I am wondering if I am paying too much. Any input?

it really depends on the interior. modern kitchen with proper oven and stove is brilliant. i would think a house with modern design would cost alot. i spent more than 6 months finding a ideal house within the budget between 15-35k but none come with a proper counter top or oven. none . . infact many of the living room i seen look like a garage with tv, chair.

The living room has vaulted ceilings a big plus for me as I like the space. Plenty of windows and lots of light including screened double sliding doors that leads to a patio and garden. But not all models of the same house are the same. I saw an A ++ version of this model at another and similar Moo Baan near Hang Dong. It was gorgeous. The garden was a work of art. But the kitchen was a mix of Thai and modern a stove top but no oven. But maid and gardening service included. 18000 baht. One car carport.

Another of the same model in Nuntana/Cholada was going for 15000 baht. Partly furnished and dirty walls and poor garden and not well maintained. Being there bothered my asthma. I passed.
