  1. Because this language is useless and totally unclear even for Thai who do not understand each others ?

In case you want to know i speak Thai fluently and think i wasted 3 years of my life leaning this shiiite....

I doubt you speak fluenty since it's clear you're not a "big fan" of thailand. It takes a LOT of dedication and learning to be able to be fluent in just 3 years,by lot of dedication i mean having conversations in thai 24/7,reading thai books, watching thai movies etc/programs etc..The way you talk and your post history i doubt you're even on a beginner level.Even a guys like Stuart Ray Jay and Adam Bradshaw needed 4-5years to be fluent(adam started as 21 and now he's 30+).Jay has been learning for 15+ years(he's been living in thailand for 10 years or so).

Considering that even THIS guy consider himself as fluent speaker and is actually giving advices to learn thai on an advance level is astonishing. The only thing he's doing on advance level is butchering thai language.

  2. Title...

I'm from France and i would say that 70-80% of all foreigners who live there for several years can speak french on pretty good level and have great understanding.I lived in Germany for several years too where the situation was the same.

Been living in Thailand for many years and so far i've seen very few foreigners who can talk proper thai and can understand usual conversations between thais. Now,i'm guilty too for knowing only basic thai, but i must say,it seems that the one's who can actually talk proper thai can feel very special about their knowledge.

I was actually reading a while ago on some thai language blog that basically there're 3 kinds of thai lang. learners. It was really interesting and i would very much agree to that:

1.The ones who know only basic/survival thai and never make an effort to actually sit and learn(500 words AT MOST,hard to understand due to complete tone mispronunciation.(Most of the time spend in "farang bubble world")

2.The ones who have intermediate knowledge(1000-2000 to 3000 words at most, some knowledge about tones). But end up giving up at some point when their thai become "sufficient".Never actually learn daily, end up forgetting many words and most of the words are staying in their passive vocabulary.THE MOST usual group of foreigners. Can engage in conversation but their vocabulary and tones are limiting them.

3.The ones who actually devote their time to learn thai(5000+words in vocabulary, proper tones, vowels),devote their time to watch thai movies/shows etc. to get a grasp of the language in every way they can.Less than 1% of all foreigners (The 3rd one is very hard task, requires daily learning, repeating words, repeating tones for every words that you know and actually remember those tones, reading books).

  3. So basically i have vocab of about 3000 words+correct tones that i've memorized(took me about 4 years,i don't have much free time).

But what is annoying is that so many of this words i can't put in a context when i'm speaking. So basically from 3000 words i probably use less than 50% of it.

So how do you guy learn words by its meaning so you can know how to use it,by reading books, magazines, newspapers and watching movies, shows and basically any thai related stuff?

I guess i could start learning meaning of each word that i have but that would took A LOT of time just for doing that

  4. i've lived in Germany and France and i must say that most of the foreigners who are living in those countries for a sometime(2,3+ year) can speak the language. Not fluently but definitely very well.I would even say 80+% of all foreigners that are living in those countries for a few years can speak the language.Been living in Thailand for 9 years, been all over the country, have a lot of friends and i saw probably less than 15 foreigners who actually have a good vocabulary with accurate tone pronunciation.I would say less than 10% of all foreigners can talk good thai. And probably less than 5% if you account only Bangkok and Pattaya.

Those 10% can feel somewhat special about their knowledge of thai language, just because they're so rare.Living in Germany/France or some other country there's nothing special about foreigners who can speak the language because that's very common occurrence.

But ofc thai language is so much harder to learn, especially the tones. You basically need to know each tone/long-short vowel for every word you know. And it's even worse when just a small percent of the people actually know english so it's impossible for someone to explain something properly.

Most of the people give up on learning thai after they get "survival thai language knowledge".

  5. You should ask your local Immigration office with the support of your school, because e.g. Jomtien office is not giving further extensions past one year of the initial ED visa, requesting students to go get a new ED visa.

Yeah that's why i was asking.I have school class on monday so i'll ask then which was my plan. Usually,as i remember,ed visa holders would get on last 4th extension 3 months more. That was what i've been told a month ago in school but now it's a mystery

  6. 600W PSU for 1,000bht will do the job just as well.
50bht fan hung over the CPU fan will do just as good a job as an expensive heatsink.
50bht fan over the graphics, GPU also adds a lot of cooling.

    Just a couple of thoughts.
Almost all the problems in higher end computers are due to overheating, a few extra cheap fans placed here and there make a lot of difference.

    Future proofing,
Waste of time, when you get to the future, all the parts you bought now will be obsolete.
Better to buy cheaper now and new in the future.

I wouldn't be saving too much on psu,i would say some decent psu for 1500-2000baht would be enough. It's hot in here:) Something like fx6300,r9 270x 8gb ram would do great job. But depends how much you want to spend?

  7. I'm afraid I can't explain it in simpler language than I already have done.

Well i know i get 90 days of extension but what i'm asking is for example.. If i make today(may 2014) ed visa then i have to go to immigration(jomtien) in august, november, february and then in may(last stamp) i get one more 3 months that is valid until august? And that makes it 15 months?( in this 3months i have to get new ed or tourist visa or return home)

  8. Im just sharing post from user @jimjams33 from other thread for ones who don't want to read the whole thread and need infos
    ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

1 – the new rules will only effect people applying for a new ED visa and not those who already have an ED visa.

2 – That means people already with ED visa’s will not have to provide any other information when extending for either 90 days (language schools) or 1 year (Universities) other than what is normally required.

3 – This only effects new applicants who need the letter from the MOE before applying for the ED visa

4 – If you are applying for the first time then you will need to show proof of money being either transferred from abroad or withdrawn from a foreign bank account whilst in Thailand

5 – At the moment there is no definitive amount of money that need to be shown in your bank account from abroad…It actually doesn’t even ask for proof, just need to fill on the form who or how you are being supported. Bank letters from the UK (my bank Barclays does this for me anyway) stating money has been transferred to a Thai bank account in your name and or cash withdrawals from an ATM using a foreign card then that should be fine. (they just want to see how you are supporting yourself)

6 – Visa history of 2 years (if applying in Bangkok) and 1 year (if applying outside of Bangkok) is required and what the purpose of the visa was for. But for me this is a moot point as when applying for an ED visa….they have a copy of your passport with visa pages anyway.

    I hope this helps people.

  9. you can't really blame the cops for the populace's deep belief in reincarnation and therefore not so worried about death, more concerned with enjoying themselves and living in the moment regardless of the consequences...

you really don't know nothing about thailand.I guess only barstool stories about how thailand being a bad country etc.Now go back to soi 6.

rubbish, you obviously know little about Buddhism, now go back to your seat in Soi 6

Lol.I suggest distance yourself from other farangs and try to know thailand. But that's probably mission immposible

'He doesn't know nothing' means he does know something - and he's quite right about the Thai populace.

Well it's a well known fact most of TV users are hating everything what's related with thai in any means.Saying that thais don't care about death it just moronic but understandable. Most of the foreigners don't speak thai thus can't understand everything that's going on,believe me those who can speak are seeing the country on whole new level.

Seeing that most of the farangs don't even know difference between bar girl and normal girl says everything.Ones who marry with bar girl and than complain how she stole his money and "every thai girl" is the same are the best lol.Ah farangs, education doesn't worth shit sometimes

  11. ...I also already have ed visa, will they check me when i go immigration for 3 month extension? ...

You will just have to wait and see what happens. If I remember correctly what MacWalen has posted, in his communication with the MoE he was led to believe that only new students will have to submit the two new forms, only if enrolling at a school in Bangkok, and only if they have been living in Thailand during the last two years.

Thanks for that info.I think i have also read that new requirements are only for new students who are applying to MoE not the ones who already have ed visa

  12. I don't have credit card from my country. I only have money in kasikorn thai savings bank account which is my name.Any problem with that? I also already have ed visa, will they check me when i go immigration for 3 month extension?

These new requirements seems to stupid.I don't work here, but it seems even if i work i could just open bank account in thai bank and deposit money and say "i'm using that money" and if i work somewhere illegaly i could deposit money in my bank account. It just seems to stupid.

Would be better if they have some test based on how much did you learn in school. Many people go 2-3 years to school and know just couple of words.

  13. You will probably get use to it,but why?....Maybe it's more money for the AT,but switching gears in the traffic is no fun...

That could be problem too because i'm living in Pattaya and traffic is notorious here. And i'm probably gonna drive 90% in here.

But i would have no trouble if gear shifter is located on right side(like in eu),so just wondering if left side gear shift is gonna feel natural like right side as the time goes by and i get more adjust to it to the point it will feels perfectly natural..
