  1. Not too sure about this. However one lady I used to work with went through this process to bring her dog over here, its cost her 1000's of USD to get it sorted and a long wait for her poor dog, anyway, she finally got the dog over here. And as she was house hunting at the time, needed to put her dog in the kennels for a week or so until she got sorted.

So she checked her much loved hound into the kennel and left him in the capable hands of the young Thai girl working at the vets, who then managed to leave the kennel door open, letting the small scared dog escape out of the vets never to be seen again.

A very sad story after all the effort my friend put into bringing her companion into the country, only to loose him straight away.

The dog was never found :o

  2. I read the book a while ago, good story, felt pity for the girl, however she says the reason she did what she did is cos she was sick and didnt want to ask her folks for assistance. i think its very sad if you are in a foreign country and have to smuggle drugs to get home instead of being able to ask a close friend or family member to help you out.

My family and friends are not wealthy, but im sure would always be able to help me out in some way should i ever really really need it.

  3. Definately Mangosteen! Im lucky enough to work in a resort here that serves up the best quality mango, pomelo, papaya, mangosteen etc etc, every moring for brekkie. I dont know where they manage to get such top quality ripe fruit, definately better than what I buy at the market - And most of our guests think it looks far too weird and dont touch it. But I have a good feed every morning!!!

  4. Well I walked down there again this morning and it was all looking pretty clean, so for the time being my beach walks are resumed! I still didnt see a name of the resort though, but if I see it again, ill definately do more investigating and get the sods reported (for all the good it will do?!?!)

I also work in a resort and know of the problems that can be involved in getting the septic tanks drained. It seems to me that there is only one small lorry for the whole area! This certainly remains to be a problems for all resorts, big or small.

Anyway this is Samui, already on its way to being a garbage dump, lets hope things change pretty soon :o

  5. I was out for my early morning stroll on Lamai Beach today, and as I started to near Pavilion Resort at the far end of Lamai, was hit by the most hideous smell imaginable at 7am in the morning. After a little bit of heaving I looked up to investigate and saw a hose pipe pumping out raw sewage out onto the beach, which was then slowy making its way to the sea.

It wasnt from the Pavilion resort, but from one of the more shoddy looking places to the left of it.

This has left me absolutely disgusted - how can people get away with this, this shit will sit on the sand all day whilst kiddies on their holidays run around nearby.

Is there not somewhere that these things can be reported to?

This has certainly changed my views on which beach (if any) I shall be choosing for my morning walks!!!

Thanks for letting me share that with you :o

  6. Just wondering - I am due to do my 3 month visa run (non-im B multi-entry) on the 8th July, but have some friends arriving for a few days, and dont really want to have to go all the way to the border.

I was thinking about going to Samui immigration and getting an extension just to give me some extra time. Does anyone know if I can do this on my non-im B, and will it have any affect on me re-newing my work permit

    Thanks :o

  7. I was wondering if anyone could offer the same kind of advice about nice places, bars / cafe's / meeting places in Samui, and where everyone likes to go in the evening, as sometimes it seems like there are no other expats around here!

how many people on this forum actually live in Samui anyway?

  8. Hi, I am coming to live and work in Lamai next month and am looking to rent a room/house/bungalow for as cheap as possible (from around 3000 - 6000) until I get myself settled and can get looking properly. I would be interested in anyone knows of any accomodation rented out per month, preferably in the Hinta Hinya area of South Lamai.

    Much appreciated :o

  9. I am foreign female married to a Thai national. I currently hold a non-imm b which expires on monday and i am going to apply for a spouse visa, I am starting a new job next week, can i apply for a work permit on a spouse visa or do i need to go to penang for a new nom-im b in order for my employer to apply for a work permit. a quick response would be lovely as i have stupidly left it a bit late, thanks guys x :o

  10. Hi, ive had a good scan on this topic but havent as yet found the answer im looking for, so if anyone can shed any light, please do.....

My employers are about to send me off to Penang for my 1 year multiple entry non-b visa all payed for etc etc, will not have a problem getting it as ive been in the system for a year.

My only problem is that im considering leaving this current employer to take up new work in a different area (work permit will be provided).

I have recently been told that if i leave the employer that provides the letter to the embassy stating that i will be working for them (in order to gain the visa), that my one year multi entry will be cancelled, can they do this, or can my new employer not just get me a new wp and therefore i will stay in the system.

I need to know, as obviously if i go and get a year and it all gets cancelled within the next month then its a large waste of money that I will feel obliged to pay up.

Anybody know anything about this and what needs to be done

    thanks, Soph
