  1. Howdy Dustoff ! I haven't seen you in person for years now.... hope you're hanging in there. I'm wondering if you have had an interpreter call the company on the tanks yet ? Or if you could maybe ask a hospital who supplies theirs ? Even if their supplier isn't used to going to private residences, a small tagged-on tip of something reasonable (50B? 100B?/trip) might sway them. I don't know how often that may be, so up to you. Or they just might do it. Keep us posted. And, if you get a number and need someone to call n speak in Thai for you, I'm always up for it.

    Take care of yourself !

Thanks RTD and it has been a while - hope you are well.

My wife is Thai with excellent English language skills as well so no interpreter needed. I am currently using an electric oxygen generator (rented from Suan Dok Hospital) and would only need tank refills if I have to use my backup tanks during an electrical failure. My wife has a friend who owns/operates a new minibus and has just agreed to transport our tanks for refill since there may not be the convenience of a delivery service like for cookiing gas.

    Anyone else have any input?

It looks like time for me to jump back in here..

To be brutally honest, yes, lung/spine cancer issues are my interest in the Red Ginseng. Thank you for your wishes.

CobraSnakeNectie is correct - the Korean Red Ginseng I seek is not a color variety of the root but is red due to the processing that brings out the best of the possible cancer-fighting ingredients.

The GSD drink recommended above is what I initially rejected as a 'ginseng drink in a red bottle' as it is merely white Ginseng loaded with junk chemicals.

Thanks for all the recommendations! I know the choices are few and expensive indeed. Amazon(dot)com actually has offerings that seem reasonable but I haven't used them and don't know what to expect in terms of shipping and customs.

The 'real' Korean Red Ginseng is very popular indeed in Hong Hong and I was kind of hoping that someone imports to Thailand at more reasonable prices than the kiosks in TOPS but I am willing to spend whatever it takes for the best quality. Not only for the hoped-for cancer benefits but at this stage some extra energy and immune system boost can't hurt, eh?

Thank you all for your kindness.

    Dust in the wind...

Specifically Korean RED Ginseng, not just a ginseng drink in a red bottle.

Almost any form is okay (tea, gel, liquid, whatever) but I am seeking a serious suppliment.

If you know of someplace local or a supplier to order from, I would appreciate knowing about them.

    Thanks.

  4. This I try to comprehend=

why gmail plus at times other intern sites

but then again you read yahoo down, gmail ok?

How can it be so selective, why not everyone samesame?

Well, just MHO but my connection is fluctuating so wildly that I don't believe that the problem is with any one particular site or email service. You try one and it doesn't work, go to another and it is fine, then go back to the first and it is now working fine. It all depends on at what moment you are trying to access it..

I agree with naboo that webmail is soooo 1990's and I haven't used it for over a dozen years. Also avoiding 'targeted' programs like IE, Outlook and all of that junk, I use a small, efficient in-computer email client that checks all of my email services via POP every ten minutes. None of my personal information is sitting out there for public view for any length of time and I have access to it right here, in-house, even off-line, any time I want it. Pegasus Mail, Thunderbird, take your choice - there are many available.

Email therefore, is the least of my worries since my client keeps trying for me until it works - it is just trying to get immediate access to websites that is crazy-making over these past few days, especially since I do a bit of website management, my own included, and I am probably lacking in the patience I should have learned here in Thailand by now..

  5. they may stand ready, however they didn't even reply to my E-mail or post

I'm sorry to hear that you did not get a reply from your e-mail. We have had some difficulties during the past few months due to our webmaster having been in the hospital. Please PM me if you have any questions or if there is anything the VFW can do to help you.

As the webmaster for our Chaing Mai VFW Post, I am aware of no problems with our site due to hospitalizations or anything else. Our website is kept very much up to date and all of the email addresses of officers on the page are correct and functioning.

Not to mention that the webmaster is not responsible for responding to emails in any way. The email links on our site go directly to the individual Post officers and I never see them.

If you or anyone else has any problems with the CM VFW website, please feel to contact me using my email address posted at the very bottom of our page, or PM me through this post. You will find that I do respond..

    Thank you.

  6. You seem to have your calculations mixed up as the hypotenuse (slope) is always longest in a right-angled triangle - perhaps drop your square root onto the adjacent. In any case, op, see above for the correct opposite (vertical) side, which is the tangent of the opposite angle (ie - 30 degrees) by the adjacent side (100cm) - 57.7cm. If you have a vertical of 50cm, your angle would be less than 30 degrees, perhaps 26, so I guess no biggy. ;)

    ~

Thanks for that - the numbers didn't make sense to me either but since the 30-deg was just a starting point, it didn't really matter much.

We will check with our curtain lady who did our whole house but I cannot imagine her having the equipment or stock to cut a wedge of that size. A sack filled with cotton batting is not going to work either as I cannot have lumps or bumps on the top side. The old princess and the pea thing..

  7. ~

Well, this thread seems to have started quite a conversation. I am honored that so many TV members are interested in assuring that I get a wedgie. This should also prove helpful for those considering doing some reupholstering.

What I am looking for may have become a bit lost in the shuffle however. My wife has visited a few shops and discovered that they are all using plastic foam, not foam that is real rubber. One shopkeeper told her that foam rubber has become very difficult to find in Chiang Mai and offered to glue 20+ layers of one-inch plastic foam together and try to carve out what I am looking for. This would be functional I suppose if I wanted to wash a very large dish but it is hardly what I am seeking.

We continue to look and the 'green arrow' place on Charoen Muang is next..

Thanks to all of you who have contributed so far!

  8. ~

Okay, so math has never been my thing. If the base of the wedge is 100cm long, how high does the back of it have to be to make a 30-degree slope down to the point?

Thanks for that, Dave2. How far from the river is the shop down Charoen Muang Rd? And the one East of the SE corner of the moat?

I will likely skip the plastic cover and go with a non-slip material (nails?) or I may find myself zipping right off the foot of the bed.

I am not a huge fan of signs anyway but give them little notice except when they clutter the view when I am off into the mountains for a scenic motorcycle ride. I moved here a decade ago from the U.S. State of Hawaii where they have a law against roadside signs and billboards. I DO miss that unfettered view of awesome beauty!

I am also not a fan of people interrupting my peace at home with door-to-door sales or agendas. But for Girl Scout cookies, I figure that anything that has to be sold door-to-door is not something that I would normally be interested in.

When we purchased a license plate holder for our motorcycle here in CM, the paper plate that came with it had the number 666 in it so I cut it out and taped it to our front door. I occasionally see the fear-peddlers approach our gate but after a glance at the door, they don't bother to ring the bell.

In Hawaii I would simply open the door and let my 88Kg, 196cm (standing on his hind legs) Great Dane out. The look on their faces as he happily galloped out to greet them was almost as rewarding as watching them fall all over each other to be the first to get far, far away. He and I spent many happy hours discussing how they didn't really believe that their particular god was there to protect them ALL of the time..

I have nothing against any particular religion, just no interest in superstition or supernatural beings whatsoever.

  10. Yeah my malware alert goes off when I try to visit that page too.

Your anti-virus software may be a bit too agressive.

There are two ads for this company between these messages and they open just fine on my system and my anti-virus is the latest and greatest commercial version from BitDefender.

They have been having a bit of trouble with their website but if you go to 'contact' and email them, they will immediately send you a couple of attachments with their product list and price list. I had purchased the Musashi supplements before in pharmacies and am happy to have found a cheaper supplier with a much broader selection.

Disclaimer: Other than as a customer, I have no connection with this company.

Thai Sports Supplements Company Ltd is in Bangkok and supplies Musashi (Nestle) protein/amino acid supplements and weight management products throughout Thailand but also offers retail sales (cheaper) and free shipping!

Having lost 20% of my body weight and muscle tone due to chemo/radiation therapy, I contacted this company for advice. Their response was immediate and my order was shipped right away, at no cost. My initial contact was on a Monday, I ordered on Tuesday and the order arrived at my home the very next day.

I certainly can't complain about their service..

If you are into getting yourself in better shape or getting your weight under control, check these folks out:

The good news is that their products are very easily digested and assimilated and I am not only healing but gaining weight!

  12. Good read with great maps concerning Thailand and other SE Asian seismic zones:

    http://www.docstoc.com/docs/2815790/South-East-Asia-Seismic-Hazard-Maps

    An excellent post! Thank you..

I was at the computer and as soon as the house began to float back and forth, I was reminded that, while I don't worry about serious earthquakes here, I need to teach my family earthquake survival techniques sooner than later.

My wife insists she felt more shudders this morning but I didn't feel them. I kind of like the sensation of what we consider solid ground becoming liquid on a moment's notice..

There are many different kinds of worms that infest humans and not all are harmless. Some actually burrow into the intestinal walls, can cause real health problems and some are not easily killed off with a generic de-worming medication.

Go to a doctor and have them perform a proper parasite exam. Something that may be eating YOU inside is nothing to take lightly. Also deworm any pets you may have after you find out what it is that you are carrying around.

Be wise, spend the few extra bucks..

Thanks to those who actually provided a location for the Samsung Service Center.

We were also given a telephone number which turned out to be Samsung Central in Bangkok but they took all the info and said to expect a call from the CM center within three days. That was yesterday, they called within two hours and their repairmen will be here this afternoon! Call 02-850-0891

The Samsung is a bit noisy and of course gets louder with age. For our second unit, in our son's bedroom, we chose a Daikin and it was a good choice indeed. After three years, the unit is so quiet that we have to look at the lights to see if it is even turned on. The HomePro on Hangdong Road tells us that there is a Daikin Service Center here in CM but we have not needed it as yet.

We also have the same HomePro come out at least yearly to do a full cleaning of both units and they do a thorough job indeed..

  15. I would be a little wary of putting in a higher capacity circuit breaker. In my limited knowledge of the electrical field, there are a few givens. One being that the circuit breaker trips when the load exceeds the breakers capacity. This could be an indicator that the circuit breaker is faulty, if the breaker is functioning properly then the problem is in the AC.

Putting in a larger breaker could cause the AC to burn up or even worse, if the new breaker exceeds the houses wiring capacity for load to be exceeded, cause the wiring in that circuit to burn up (Fire).

I would first look at the breaker they want to replace with a larger size. Replace it with the same size, if it continues to trip then the problem is the AC.

Thanks DB but I thought I indicated that I already know that and that is why the fake 'engineers' were sent down the road. I chose to have a slightly larger than the minimum breaker installed at installation and would never consider going up again in size.

I am seeking an Authorized Samsung Service Center in Chiang Mai. Anyone know of one?

    Dustoff

  16. ~

We purchased our aircon from Panich near Airport Plaza so had them send out their service 'engineers' but..

The problem: popping circuit breaker. I knew we had a problem when they couldn't get the cover off the inside unit and I had to remove (replace) it for them. They peered around inside the unit, wrote their report and stated that we needed a larger circuit breaker and a new remote control. The circuit breaker is the one Panich installed in the first place and we opted for the larger size which has been working fine for years. A remote control has to do with the circuit breaker like mosquitos have to do with Thai politics.

They left without being paid anything whatsoever..

Anyone know of an official Samsung Service Center in Chiang Mai?

    Thanks..

We have lived in Wang Tan for some seven+ years and have found nothing close by but have a woman who comes to our home to work on both my wife and myself.

No funny-biz, just serious theraputic massage and she has an intuitive way of finding problem areas on her own and working them out.

She can be as brutal as you can handle but is totally willing to adjust to your level of tolerance.

She usually tuk-tuk's in from town and we pick up/deliver her at the Temple near Hangdong Rd that is on the way out of Wang Tan.

Trust me, her work is well worth the effort!

Please be straight with her - we have recommended her to a couple of other TV bozos who blew her off,

like not even being home when she arrived at the scheduled time (you know who you are).

She will not be suckered twice and I don't blame her a bit..

Send a PM and I will forward her contact info.

  18. Dustoff, I guess you missed this thread from Dec 6, where another member asked the identical question, and got numerous responses....

A quick search (big green button) for "sea salt", that is directed to search this forum (CM) turned up 3 or 4 other threads in addition to the one mentioned above, dating back to 2006.

Hey, no biggie. We have members who apparently find mayonnaise a rare and difficult commodity to locate here.

    :rolleyes::lol:;) :jap:

    ~

You are absolutely right McG. I both missed that thread and failed to do a search - my bad.

As it turns out, I like this one much better than your linked one since it is going so smoothly and

is so informative - your's, I believe, being the first disparaging comment.

Please however, if this thread annoys you, feel free to close or delete it since it long ago answered

my question and I promise to avoid "mayonnaise" kinds of questions in the future. ;)

Oops, I hope that doesn't start a thread hijack about mayo.. :D
