  1. So there's no conformation for Aerosmith yet then?

Or hardly any of the other big acts mentioned either?

If that's the case, what a waste of my time reading this post lol

So true. And Aerosmith absolutely NOT true. They won't tour (Asia) this year and there are no plans to do so anyway. Just another wannabee promoter with a big mouth trying to make the papers. Several other artists I doubt as well.

    They call this journalism?

  2. Lots of bands are very safety conscious, not a great surprise that the power system supplied didn't meet up to their standards.

It would be a contractual obligation for the promoter to supply an acceptable international standard power source.

Mai Pen Lai wouldn't cut it.

    Correct!

  3. i dare say it has anything to do with power / electrical issues and the fact that ticket sales may have not reached the desired amount. but more the fact that the event organizers may not have done their homework !

it probably has more to do with the fact that " CHINO " the lead singer of the band is notorious after having a few pre - show drinks and picking fights with crowd members if not in the happiest of moods. they may have be concerned with someone getting their ASS kicked, although the band does know how to raise the levels on the amps.

shame it would have been good to see a couple of young Thais get a good moshing at a real gig when the shit hits the fan and then to see how the authorities handled it.

BS buddy. I was there (in the venue at set up) and the problems were electrical unfortunately.

  4. Thanks guys. If you read my post again you will see that the shopkeeper made a mistake looking at a piece of paper for prices (with 3 prices for each item. 1. what they paid, 2. Thai price 3. Farang price) and only changed her mind when the owner arrived who clearly wanted her to charge us the farang price.

Real or not is not the point, my 17 yr old nephew thought it was cool and they look very real... Scam is the (dual) pricing.

@familyonthemove, sure buddy but I don't think I know you or you know me do you? My wife actually holds more degrees than me. 2 university ones and a college. Do you or your bargirl got any? ;-)

@sms747. Sort of correct, it's actually between Soi 66 and 64/1 and right opposite 101/1. Mea Culpa.

My wife, Thai, thought it was a scam

Sounds more like an honest mistake by his staff.

Thaivisa ... the most argumentative site in the World?

'My wife thought it was a scam'

''Sounds like an honest mistake to me'

'Are you calling my wife a liar??'

'Well I bet she dosn't have a degree in rocket science like my Hi-So wife'

'My wife has two degrees and an MSc and loads of land .... so there'

'Bet she can't even pronounce tilac!'

'She can too .... and she's got white skin and never asked me for anything, ever, so up yours with knobs on .... '

    'Red shirt!'

    'Yellow shirt!'

..... and on and on ....

By the way ..... thanks for the info on the market .... I miss the Night Bazaar

  5. Went there few times in last week with overseas relatives. it seems to want to replace the Suanlum Night Bazaar. Soft opening with maybe 50 shops open with space for 1,000 more (already built) and a beer garden with stage (how original!) next to Sukhumvit.

Be careful for a seller in the second soi selling amongst others framed insects. He has a tricky dual price policy. Was not at his store when we arrived. We agreed with his (Cambodian?) shopkeeper to a price, then he appeared and started saying it was much more expensive. The shopkeeper had a list she used with prices. He then wanted 50% more for the same item. My wife, Thai, thought it was a scam. We walked away calling him a cheater and he scolded us, follow us etc. I was a hair away from calling the cops but did not want to put in more time. Just be careful.

Otherwise, nice place and worth a visit. Make sure you speak good Thai to negotiate or bring a Thai to do that.

  6. No work, no pay. Let's see how long they will continue.

Another point: my wife told me there's a law saying if an MP steps down he has to pay THB 10 million, to help with cost of elections...

Are these guys for real? Not much time for discussing these things this week, but...

Lets see. PTP refuses to participate because of soldiers. Demonstrators backed by PTP have threatened the government. Hmmm.... A grenade attack was launched at yesterday's cabinet meeting. Last year Redshirts attacked P.M. Abhisit's driver and who knows what would have happened if he had been in the car. A great politician's contributions ended by a mob perhaps. Hmmm, and they object to the military protecting the governemnt. Wonder why?

Seems to me the PTP politicians should be impeached rather than Abhisit, but that is a nonexistant straw they are clutching at there.

Well have to get back to my tasks at hand.

  7. Fully agree. Totally unreliable. If major claim, they will try to get away with not (re)paying, not even pre-existing clause. I told them I would fight them in court and at government level and they returned all my premiums. Went to LMG and very happy there.

Had Bupa for 5 years for me and our company policy 7 staff, All Platinum.

First time we have had to rely on it, absolutle crap service and in the end refused payment, we have already decided to jump to Prudential.

Reason for refusing payment existing condition clause ! Had an infection that had been hurting (chronic for 5 mths) and even though we had coverage throughout term and previous 4 years they still said no.

Had to pay cash in the end to get checked out for Cancer etc total bill 80,000 bht Bupa paid ..0 bht.

Drs have confrimed that this was not existing just chronic infection that took 6 mths to get bad. BUPA bunch of arse.

  8. Was there today. Approx. 10,000 people. Not a bad game although a lot of hard kicks/injuries and a so so referee, just bad not one sided.

Muang Thong won 2-0. Worst was the 50 Port FC hooligans which stopped the game before it was over. Very uncool and some scary hard hitting stuff even kicking police incl. 1,000 people trying to get out of a small exit at once. They had some serious fireworks, sticks and other stuff to hit/throw with. Several heavy fights. It happened across from where I was sitting, but the Port FC "fans" even made it to our side of the field although they luckily could not get on the tribune. Not enough police, security or barricades. If the stadiums are not equipped for it, I foresee a large problem withe these "fans" in the TPL. Pity.

Big One on tomorrow (Saturday 20th February) The Kor Royal Cup, which is the equivalent of the English Charity Shield

    5pm Saturday 18th Feb

Muang Thong United v Thai Port

    Supachalasai Stadium (National Stadium)

    Bangkok

Also televised live on NBT 11

  9. Not true, it's tolerated by law. You can posses 5 grams for personal use, and coffee shops can have 100 grams in stock and you have to shows ID being over 18 to buy. You can not grow over 4 plants for personal use either.

All is much more regulated then it appears!

20k's would have gotten the some serious jail time in NL too. Although I fully agree the death sentence is way too much for this.

That said, they knew what risk they were taking.

I also agree with other poster that tobacco and alcohol are way more dangerous and addictive then cannabis.

FYI: I do not smoke (anything) or drink. My own choices.

death is a bit harsh just for cannabis

Agreed, considering its legal in Amsterdam

  10. Worst food on intra-Asian flights. My father in law's dogs get fed better! Unfortunately I have to fly them a lot due to destinations and for them having the best time slots (for me). Cutting down as much as I can.

Try to compare CX with TG on BKK-HKG route. Better prices, better food, better service.

When you complain (via email), TG does not even respond.

  11. What service? Worst computer brand on the planet. I would not event get one if they were free.

I bought a Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop in England. Here they could not supply me with a new keyboard for that model. My partner and I had two laptops and a desktop between us all Dell. Several attempts to get spare parts from them all with the same negative result although I did once manage to purchase a new battery for my laptop. Now I am rid of all my Dells and I would not consider one again. The service here in Thailand for the personal user is non existant.

  13. Nice, trying to protect their a**es :o

I still do not see an answer or explanation to this comment:

"Voravan Tarapoom, president of the Association of Investment Management Companies, warned that a collapse of AIG could potentially affect AIA, which in turn would have huge ramifications for the Thai economy and public.

''Under the Insurance Act, there is no explicit guarantee given for policyholders. Customers might believe that their funds are 100% safe, but they are not,'' she said.

Mrs Voravan, also managing director of BBL Asset Management, said authorities need to have a clear contingency plan in place in case an event affected AIG and AIA."

Until I get a clear answer from AIA on this, I think they have been lying all along, just like their US "sister".

  14. That US85B is a LOAN.

This is what the BKK Post (finally!) put on their front page today:

"Voravan Tarapoom, president of the Association of Investment Management Companies, warned that a collapse of AIG could potentially affect AIA, which in turn would have huge ramifications for the Thai economy and public.

''Under the Insurance Act, there is no explicit guarantee given for policyholders. Customers might believe that their funds are 100% safe, but they are not,'' she said.

Mrs Voravan, also managing director of BBL Asset Management, said authorities need to have a clear contingency plan in place in case an event affected AIG and AIA."

    Means we are NOT protected.

According to my wife AIA was going to send a letter to all their customers (today?). I would like to see an English version, plus look for clarification of the statement above.
