  1. Saw it last night also. Very well done.

Never seen a movie with this much text in THREE languages. Makes it authentic, but hey....no subtitles, so how can you follow what's being said... Except English, about 10-15% French & Latin. My French is OK, my Latin is not. Of course the French is poken fast. So be aware, or what for the DVD.

Saw the movie last night...full theatre...mostly Thais with a few farangs. There was a Thai language intro and finale statement saying the movie was not about truth but about a story in which a lot of content were opinions.

Also interesting was that you all had better bone up on your French language since a lot of that language is spoken in the movie and the French subtitles have been replaced by Thai subtitles! As far as rating the movie...I would say 2 to 3 star with Tom Hanks having a weak role and performance...not an Oscar candidate for sure. The French dick and the crippled Brit gave fine performances IMHO. The book was much better than the movie.

Few movies I have seen can measure up to the book...one exception being the Godfather 1 and 2 movies based on Mario Puzo's book. I won't bother buying the DVD since I think one viewing of the movie is enough for me. I know for sure we won't see any Angels and Demons since it would have to be filmed in Vatican City and Pope Benny would never, ever give his imprimatur and nihil obstat.

  2. The problem with these idiots at AIS is that they continue to lie.... a lorry crashed into a transmission point. Yeah right ! :o

I'm still waiting for answers re. my GPRS email problems, 12 days after I asked first (5 emails, 2 calls)....nothing.

What an amateurs. Where is the government on this....oh wait...AIS = the government. Losers.

I want number portability. Now !

    Update:

Call traffic worsens as tariffs bottom out

AIS network fails after truck accident

The company said the problem occurred after a lorry had crashed into one of the firm's transmission points.

    --Bangkok Post 2006-05-18

  3. Bastards they are at AIS Customer "Service". Clueless also.

I'm on AIS postpaid (Serenade Gold customer) and my wife on Dtac postpaid. She has/had less problems then I do with calls.

I did have both AIS and Dtac give me back 30-40% of our monthlies for 3 months last year, but the problem has worsened. When do we get number portability in Thailand ? Or when will AIS invest OUR money into the network upgrades needed ? I could of course email Temasak/SingTel about this and make them responsible...

On top of this I found out that sending email from my smartphone (Palm Treo 600) routes 90% of the time through a AIS mail server (203.170.228.172) that is blacklisted as spam server, so many mails do not arrive at it's destinantion because of this ! When I roam in SGP, HKG, KL, SHA or SYD I never have this problem... when I sent the callcenter an email with questions (and proof) about this problem I got an automated response mentioning they would answer "the valued customer within 24 hours". That's 4 emails and 10 days ago...

They are clueless....except when it comes to counting the money !

  4. Hands down they can, thanks to GUUS. They will actually be in second round...

PSV rulzezzzzz - forget about the Premiership (it's 90% made up of overpaid foreigners anyway)

The Fly votes YES ..... :o
  5. Pay one year in advance. And your money is gone....

very interesting thread, i just finished reading through it all. i was actually at the BUPA office in silom today to pick up some brochures regarding insurance. i got their highest package, the platinum plan and just reviewed it tonight ...my wife and my would fall in the 21-25 category, paying around 20,000 per person and year for a 5M baht coverage. after reading the bad reviews i'm not sure i want to go with them...but does anyone know if their annual subscription fees that are quoted are payable monthly too or if BUPA requires you to pay the whole year up front? i should have asked them, i know...
  6. You mention your sources are mainly Thaivisa and The Post. I asked for other sources then that (as these are obvious).

If you do not read The Nation and The Post only a few times a week, I wonder what you really know about this...

Not end of story. Since when do you decide that the list is ridiculous ? Many newspapers (in Thai) also printed it and it has a news value. My point (if you read my original post well) is how I can support the blacklisting if I would wanted, given I have not alternatives. I asked for opinions on the blacklist not your whinging about The Nation. This was not about newspapers or (your) sources, so yes very :o as much as the guy about his Nissan whatever...

    :D

I don't read The Nation in physical form if I can help it, but do read the Post a few times a week...what is your point about my "sources"? You asked me if I have a better one and yes, I do, The Post's writing style is generally much better.

And I'm not offtopic, I simply think the list is ridiculous and a proper newspaper should not post it, end of story.

  7. Most news postings on TV have sources like TNA (government), BKK Post and The Nation. So spare me your "sources". It's crap what YOU write (based on your comment I take it you do not read The Nation at all). I read both the BKK Post and The Nation and the BKK Post is absolutely on Thaksin's side. Nothing wrong with it, but at least The Nation gives you the REAL story, not the Thai Rak Thai press release !

FYI: I cancelled my subscription to the Nation and went back to The Post being my daily as the delivery was not great, and the Sports section is worst then the Post. That does not mean that I believe in- and agree with everything the Post writes about politics. I think their opinions are clearly Thaksin's.

And most important, the subject for all of this (the PAD blacklist) could have been picked up from many different sources, so you're actually :o

You read it also ? if not, how do you know it's crap ? Instead of whinging, have better (newspaper) sources in Thailand ? Please let us know.

It honestly amazes me that anyone still actually reads the utter, complete crap that spews forth from the lovely Nation every single day...in their anti-Thaksin crusade, they've become as reliable as the News of the World. Can't wait to see the first stories about Thaksin's vampire cousin and alien overlords :D

Actually I am exposed to it mainly through the news postings from it here...and yes, I have a much better newspaper source in Thailand: it's called the BANGKOK POST. It has ALWAYS had a much superior writing style to whatever monkeys on typewriters The Nation seems to employ every now and then. While I agree that the Post doesn't have an objective opinion on Thaksin's wrongdoings, at least the rest of the ###### paper is of a decent quality. National Politics are not the only section in a newspaper, you know? You can't possibly claim that the Nation is being objective in their criticism...yes, they feel they need to compensate for the Post's bias in favor of the guy, but they do so in such a clumsy, offensive and childish fashion that it has stopped being journalism a long time ago...hel_l, a lot of forum users right here post better opinion pieces than them :D

  8. Quality accessories are about the same price as in the west.

Not correct. Quality is easily double the price of Western, or HKG.

Choice of those in Thailand is limited, at least you won't be able to chose colour.

For example, when buying a prem at Emporium in BKK, the only model left was a non-reclining one. Same brand (Combi), fully reclining was sold out and new shipment coming in 2 months.

Maclaren prem would be one thing I would bring from UK. Locally available (unless imported) el-chipos are of poor quality (proportional with the price of 1500-2500B).

Get Quinny. Large selection at The Mall. Same prices as in West (not cheap).

No need for bottles and things with no moving parts, quality is comparable (could even be the same brand - i.e. Dysney) and much cheaper in Thai.

Again not correct. Plastic is NO good for the baby. Buy Avent, is very expensive here though.

If you are not going back to UK or BKK soon, maybe you can get "Mobiles" - a toy that has parts hanging over laying baby that it can touch and rattle. When tey are good, they are priced same as in the west.

  9. You read it also ? if not, how do you know it's crap ? Instead of whinging, have better (newspaper) sources in Thailand ? Please let us know.

  10. Part of Suriya Jungrungreangkit's group; (ex) minister and supporter of Thaksin.

Same as 7-11, Chester, True, UBC, CP with Charoen Pokphand Group and Nexcafe, Thailand Steel, Thai Copper with Prayuth Mahakitsiri's group.

This is info from the frontpage of yesterday's The Nation.

And why is Toyota on the list?

What does it have to do with Shinawatra family or TRT? :D:o

  11. So...The Nation yesterday mentioned the list of products & services to blacklist if you are "against" Thaksin. I am, but here are my problems...

AIS - No number portability in TH. I would not change my number. Cost to much time.

True internet - no alternative unfortunately :D

Thai AirAsia - no other airline can give me the low prices to fly (several times a day that is) to KL and SIN (the Euro carriers won't do me any good, I usually need first flight out, next day last flight home).

No problem to get rid of:

Shin Sattelite - no interest in this.

iTV - BS station anyway. Won't watch it.

    Capital OK - yeah right...

    SC Asset - Not interested.

7-11 - I'll go to Family Mart instead.

    Chester's Grill :o

    UBC - nah...

Nescafe - I drink REAL coffee instead.

    Thainox Steel - no interest

    Thai Copper - same same

Toyota - just got myself a new Honda !

    What's your take ?

  12. Should not be a problem. My (Thai) wife came with me to HKG last week. She still has her maiden name in her passport. Was in a different line then me. Zoomed in.

Have her dress up "normal" though !

    Chok dee.

I'm currently living in Hong Kong and I would like to have my Thai girlfriend come and visit me for several weeks. However, I've heard that the HK immigration are rather strict in allowing Thai girls who are traveling by herself visiting HK because they're afraid that she might be working here. Some people told me that the girl have to prove that she has to have 30000 baht in her bank account and such. I've looked at the HK immigration dept website and saw that a Visa is not required for a Thai passport holders if he/she stays for less than 30 days. Does that apply to a Thai girl?

Anyone had similar experience? Any information would be appreciated.

  13. Same here (via Korea)

    http://webcorp.asianet.co.th/eh/linkinter/linkstatus.php

Link to story , (note the new look of The Bangkok Post's website).

There have been several threads here about the NTC's decision to issue new IIG licenses. I think someone may have been granted one (TOT?) but I can't remember the details?

Many ISPs are locked into 5 year deals with CAT, so that needs to be worked out as well.

Should be interesting to see what happens. I wish the local press would follow-up on the details of the IIG licensing process but those details might not exist?

BTW, on this CSLoxInfo map it does appear as though they are bypassing CAT for an OC-3 to SingTel?

  14. I did read that. If you would have read my post, you see I started of with the word IF... :o

It's ALL to be seen, at least it is moving, and HOPEFULLY we will have better (faster) international internet connections.

According to today's BK Post per January 1st, 2006 the so called International Internet Gateway services will be liberalised, and not be under control of the state-owned CAT anymore.

IF this will really happen (you never know here), it will be the best news for all internet users.

Prices of DSL will most lilkely drop, and speeds will (hopefully) be more "real".

If you read all of the article though it says that the IIG gateway will still be maintained by CAT, so although companies can negotiate directly with international providers they still have to pay for use of CATs' IIG infrastructure.

Don't think there will be much change in prices until the cat 3 licenses mentioned in the article become available and over providers can build there own IIG infrastructure and cut CAT out of the loop

  16. Thanks George. Good to know. You (TV) will not spam, but what about the telco you work with ? Sorry for going on about this, I just hate being spammed on the phone. What about the person you send the SMS to ?

    Appreciate your feedback.

    Great George !

Question before I sign up: will the mobile number the messages are sent from be used for marketing purposes ? If so, only by Thaivisa, or also by others ?

    Thanks. Wim

  18. Thanks Ian. I understand from Simmo it could be a so called range of IP's causing the problems (we could be on the same one or close or something like that).

Somebody within the range is spamming (or has a virus/spyware spamming) and causes this for all the others....

And True can not take care of this.

Never had this problem in any of the (many) other countries in worked in.

I had the same problem as well today - Outlook “452 Too many recipients received this hour” error

    Working now though

  19. Thanks Simmo. Yes, have virus/spyware on both computers, which are absolutely clean. So....it wasn't me. Actually True already acknowledged the problems are with them and their mailservers...

    Hi.

At my workplace we have a  True ADSL small business connection and use the classic.asianet.co.th mail server to send mail. There are 6 PC's here and we send out probably 200 emails a day and I haven't seen this problem. Although we did have some problems with connections to the mail server a few months back.

The error message your seeing sounds like some Spam control policy on their mail server. The only thing I can think of is the possibility you might have a virus or trojan on a PC spamming out a ton of emails through their mail servers. Have you done a virus / spyware scan on your systems?

  20. Thanks CV. Don;t have Yahoo, but as I wrote Gmail works (with Gmail's SMTP of course...) You mean Yahoo with True SMTP ? Won't work either as True's SMTP is the problem (too many mails for their mailserver). This is a potential disaster if they do not upgrade. Same as with the (international) speed issues...

BTW, It's working again. True fixed it tfaster today then yesterday only 2 hrs instead of 7....

I think if you have yahoo with pop3 you can use their smtp server. Check it out and see.

    cv

  21. Hello all,

Have my own website with mail of course, using True's SMTP to send via Outlook. Prefectly normal.

Started to have some problems a month ago, only for several hours.

This is for all their SMTP's: mail.truemail.co.th, mail.asianet.co.th and classic.asianet.co.th

“452 Too many recipients received this hour” is what I get...

Anybody have same experiences ? Solutions ?

Yesterday it continued for 7 hours. Of course Customer "Service" do not answer the phone, and when they did once they told me to change it to one of the other 3. Did also not work of course. They are ignorant and lie.

At 6:00 PM finally someone answered my (7th) email of the day explaning me: We would like to inform you about we had check Network and error because customer use server SMTP over quota now normally.

    Well....that was not the case.

Finally at 7:00 PM last night it was fine. Problem occured again at 9:00 AM today.

I have gmail accounts, so I can continue to email, but it's far from ideal...

    Aaaaarrrghhhhhhh

I LOVE Thailand, but when do they get ISP's to be RIGHT ?

  22. Sure....but what about Turkey (vs Swiss). Several Swiss players injured. One hospitalized I understand.

Great for Ozzies BTW !!! I'm a lifelong fan of PSV. Take a look at Guus Hiddink.....semi finalist with Netherlands in 98, same with South Korea in 2002. EC1 cup with PSV in 1988, 5 Dutch league titles (record) and semi CL finalist with PSV last year.

I think/hope Ozzies will get further then NL. Marco van Basten was a phenomenal player, but a really bad coach....looking too much to the Ajax youngsters with no talent. First round out is my prediction, unless he takes along van Bommel, Ooijer & Davids.

SAmericans are nutters - might be some Uraguayians footballers in danger of  a beating or death.

  23. Thanks every one so far. Very helpful.

For the record; we also found the Piyarom Sports Club, I believe around Suk 101 (actually on Suk Rd). www.piyaromsportsclub.com

The Bangkok Dolphins mentioned in Doza's post are in the Soi Klang Racquet Club in Suk 49/9 (close to Samitivej Hospital) www.rqclub.com

We also found a pool in Soi 56, but was closed last night so no details yet.

  24. Thanks Doza. Will try to locate and check it out.

There is a club with swimming pool between soi 39 and soi 49 called ??? ######, can't remember right now!!! From memory it's inexpensive compared to city gyms. Bangkok Dolphins operate out of there so search them on the net and you'll find it. Its called Soi something gym and fitness club.
