  1. Oh, the hitler thread again. Whoopee. All we need now is a thread full of raging farang complaining about being called farang and our day will be complete.

Yesterday a couple of Thai kids laughed as I went past them and when I asked them why they laughed they replied because you are farang that looks like Hitler. House is on the market, car on the market and I'm leaving and going back to UK.

Just because a couple of stupid kids laughed at you you're going to run away? I think there's more to this story than you're telling us. Come clean!

  2. Considering that someone died and a few of you are bickering like school girls, it does make you look silly, about as silly as seeing grandfatherly westerners strolling the boardwalk in tourist police uniforms.

Its sad to see tourists coming here only to die for reasons other than natural causes.

    Agreed

  3. I just got back from a visa run to Cambodia. I opted to take the minivan, there were 11 of us in total.

I checked the tires before climbing into the deathtrap. And I noticed something was much different this time. The driver was driving a bit slower, however he was still passing vehicles approaching blind corners. Most of the people on board didn't speak English, however I did want to bring up this horrible travesty during the ride. I had a feeling everybody in the van knew the story because I did see nervousness and most of the people were clutching with a death grip on the seats and whatnot.

  4. I think they are waiting for NASA to say no so they can then turn to their Chinese brethren to do it.

I am sure the Chinese can do it better and work closer with Thailand so the benefits to Thailand would be much better.

I suppose they have great experience in studying their own filthy atmosphere

I was thinking the same thing!

  5. Too much to speculate on. It doesn't say if the driver ran off only that they guess he might have fallen asleep, maybe he died, maybe he is one of the survivors. After rolling over at high speed many of the victims may have been unconscious and or disoriented so unable to exit the vehicle, otherwise I would think they would kick out the windows instead of trying to get out a jammed door. By gas tanks I presume they mean propane (LPG) tanks. Seems they could

find a way to install these outside the vehicle.

Sad to know there were some kids killed.

On a side note, I tend to speak up and say something, whether it is because of someone throwing trash, stopping at the top of an escalator, etc. So if it was me in the van, especially if I had my kids with me, I would have asked the guy to slow down, failing to heed my request I would have smacked him a few times. Go ahead and call the BiB I have 10 witnesses who will verify my claim you were endangering our lives.

Except your 10 witnesses would say nothing.

Maybe just put the driver in a chokehold and slowly put him to sleep till van comes to a nice slow stop and then simply get out of the van and start walking.

  6. just a quick heads up charlie if your dealing with true try and get everything in writing

if you have a check on this forum you will find many members who have been denied their deposits'been quoted imaginary rules'and generally have had a less than transparent experience, you will also find some members who will tell of their great customer service

from true, but i have found that whenever something changes from the "you pay us money every month" model into "somethings wrong" things go tits up rapidly.

    Oh

    Thanks Zoza,

I requested that they give me one free month of service for all the hassle I went through. They denied that, so I just didn't pay the bill. They shut it off and I kept the boxes. The upside is it stayed on for approximately one month before they shut it off from the satellite feed as opposed to the wires in the condo.

I'm done with Truevisions and would never recommend it to anybody. I realized something that was very strange, they edit the shit out of the shows that are on the movie channels and whatnot. It's quite terrible.

  7. Making no statement is the right thing to do. They should be demanding to make a call to their embassy and to ask for an attorney.

Been in the cop shop here and all that will do is annoy the hell out of them and keep you waiting for ever. Really wouldn't suggest adopting this approach in Thailand. Be polite and state the facts either way or its gonna be a long hard road you travel down.

Met an English lad who had adopted the approach you suggested over a tiny bit of weed he had in his pocket, he got held for 5 days getting regular kickings until the copper who was dealing with my case asked me to explain to him that if he just admitted to it (which he had no choice anyhow as it was his and in his pocket) he could be bailed, go to court, get a fine and p1ss off back to farangland. I explained, he was out and in a matter of hours, in court the following monday and back to farangland soon after.

Moral of the story don't get caught, but if you do the rules are worlds apart from the west so play the game and don't be a mug.

So you are condoning human rights violations?

Don't bother answering my question, it was rhetorical.

If you do, I'm sure you'll give me some rant about how cool it is to get "regular kickings".

    Not cool.

  8. I have been in several of these and you must have a careful and good driver. We normally have our family arrive from Barriram to Pattaya for a week vacation when we arrive fromthe states. The drivers from my wives area all have seemed responsible. I also do a visual check on the tires and condition of the mini van. Now seeing this story, I will only use the newer mini van types and hope for the best...

    That's good thinking!

So far, I have made three trips up to Cambodia in what appears to be the same type of van.

When we stopped for the free lunch on the way back from Cambodia I noticed the other vans and started looking at them carefully because the first time I had gone, I came to the conclusion that the driver was erratic and dangerous.

I noticed the tires on the van were very much bald, and I realized at that point it would probably be best to take a giant bus to Cambodia for my visa runs.

May all the victims rest in peace and God bless them.

  9. I would like to be in the room with the NASA folks to hear all the laughter and jokes if and when they read this "it's our way or no way" statement from Mr. Anond. I've got a few ideas about what they would say but I don't want to get banned by posting them.

Has anybody ever seen that movie Idiocracy?

  10. "The Science and Technology Ministry and Foreign Affairs Ministry have always insisted to Nasa that this project is important for Thailand," he said.

    Then -

"Even if Nasa uses an airbase in a neighbouring country, we will not allow them to survey or collect any data in our skies," he said.

    Grand observation.

  11. "We will not only send our scientists to join this project, but also want to have more participation in the decisions to designate the flight routes, the approach to collecting cloud and atmospheric data, the airbase that will be used for this mission or even the equipment that will be installed," Anond Snidvongs, director of the Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency, said yesterday.

Yes sir I am quite confident NASA will jump all over this and agree to all the demands.

Can we use this piece of equipment Mr. Anond? Where do you think our planes should fly today Mr. Anond?

I am also sure the NASA scientists are quite eager to tap the genius of Thai minds.

    Isn't that an oxymoron?

    Genius sarcasm!

  12. The Phuket taxi/tuktuk mafia, who robs, scams, beats up and kills toursist, is the single most damaging thing to Phuket and it's tourism industri. Yet nothing is EVER done about it. But when a few russians, who do no damage to anyone except a few taxi driver scumbags, contribute to the tourism industry by taking good care of russian tourists, then suddenly it is a big problem that must be stopped!?!?

    Thai logic?

    Sounds legit

  13. That's one thing my wife and I noticed since we've moved to Thailand. Why is it that the meat is cooked on street carts and restaurants, along with the pizza and everything else we seem to order undercooked. Is it "Thai style" to eat things that are undercooked?

    Zook souk

    Well done

    Crispy

    Please

  14. Its the way people get ahead in business.

    Eliminate the competition.

Yes, but it could also be from a failed relationship.

Or a road rage incident. All a possibility.

Road rage is a possibility, however shooting an unarmed woman in the head doesn't sound as likely as a hit. Just like any other whodunit, look who had something to gain from the murder and there is your culprit.

  15. My wife needs Tylenol #4 and is running low. Every pharmacy we have been to suggests we go to the hospital. However a pharmacist did tell us that the hospital will only give out 30 at a time. In her case that would only be a one-week supply. Is there any truth to this?

We are in the Pattaya area, So if anybody knows any good hospitals that are willing to work with patients with chronic pain, please get back to me. Thank you

  16. Has anybody had a problem with Truevisions catching the cable line on fire?

I had BTV with basic cable and high-speed Internet and decided to purchase Truevisions. The installation people came up and installed a very inexpensive splitter which caught on fire at different locations in my home.

After spending 8000 Baht to have new cable run into my condo, Truevisions refuses to acknowledge the fact that my cable caught on fire due to their inferior splitter.

Being new to this country I'm not sure of my rights, does anybody have any suggestions?

    Thank you
