  1. What about bare breasts - have they forgotten to ban them this year?

oh nice one motor mouth, now we are going to see a revised list, biggrin.png

    12. No wet T Shirts

    13. No breasts.

AND most important, no stupid, ignorant foreigners!

Now, now don't get down on yourself. smile.png

Maybe they will also check our passports to make sure we are legal to visit here too.

  2. This is the 3rd recent incident (off the top of my head) where a Russian person was unable (unwilling?) to produce a passport. How is it they get into the country in the first place?

Well there are some accountants that can produce such paperwork for 25k-30kthb to get you on Non-B and work permit. Not sure about renewals... but they put you in some kind of fake position. I dont see why one couldnt just fork over some money to get proper documents. Paying 4 thai workers peanuts for helping out with something couldnt cost that much, especially if your targeting russian money. :)

  3. 300bt ??? For a online shop ?

More like a BMW Fleet for all CE* tongue.png

You obviously dont realize what it takes for a large corporation to implement something of this magnitude. So much research and development goes into it. A company like Tesco cant just hire a freelancer from online.

  4. I set up a FB page with a fake name & an email address that was given to no-one I know.

It has no photos of people or anything that can be connected to me.

The list of 'people you could know' FB sends out to encourage linking regularly contains 8 - 10 people that I do know.

If I haven't used any even remotely identifiable details, and details that no-one I know could know, how does FB generate a list containing so many people that I do know from a DB of supposedly multi-millions of people?

The email being used has no people listed in the contacts, and does not connect to any of my regular email accounts.

All I can put it down to is some variant of spyware used by FB.

    Anyone got any ideas?

Most likely its information you entered. For instance, if you put where you work/worked it will seek out others that worked there too. Its all about the information you provide to them.

and multi-millions you say? not even close!

1.06 billion monthly active users (MAU) as of December 31, 2012

  5. Ever since that Russian/Phuket Taxi Mafia showdown in Bang Tao a couple months, it seems like things are constantly escalating with Phuket and Immigration. I wonder when everything will blow over...

"This campaign will help in locating foreigners in Phuket. At the moment, whenever we have to contact them [for example missing person cases] it is hard to find them, so this will be useful."...This could be a good or bad thing.

So what happens when the team does a random check in residential areas and the renter lives in another province?

  6. Capt Angkhan Yasanop confirmed that this includes owners of private homes when they have foreign friends or relatives staying with them, whether they pay for accommodation or not.

“It is the law that the owner of a residence or a hotel manager who has foreign guests staying must report to the local Immigration Office within 24 hours. It is also Royal Thai Police policy to enforce this,” Capt Angkhan said.

“We are trying to publicise this before we begin doing random checks."

“This campaign will help in locating foreigners in Phuket. At the moment, whenever we have to contact them [for example missing person cases] it is hard to find them, so this will be useful.

“Also, it is convenient for everyone – the owner or manager, the Immigration Police and other relevant departments – to check the basic information on each foreigner visiting the island. If someone is living here illegally or has a criminal record, we can find out more easily.”

The random-check team, led by Pol Col Sanchai Chokkayaikij, Superintendent of Phuket Immigration, will start checking accommodation from the end of next month. If they find owners or managers breaking the law, “they will prosecute strictly”, Capt Angkhan said. Owners or managers can report in three ways: By going to the Phuket Immigration Office on Phuket Rd, Phuket Town (near Saphan Hin), by mail to the Immigration office at 482 Phuket Rd, Tambon Talad Yai, Muang, Phuket 83000; or by making an online (for businesses only).

Note that for online reports, the owner or manager, must first register by going to the Immigration Office. Only then will a user name and password be issued for making online reports. Details of this process may be seen by visiting the Immigration website and clicking on “Notification of residence for foreigners”.

The penalty for failing to report is B8,000 per guest per day.

  7. In post #1 is the statement: , nor am I interested in competing with the local Thai's

If you are working in Thailand doing work for American companies you actually are in one sense competing with local Thais as US-based website design firms are known to sub-contract their work in Thailand.

I see your point there. As I dont want to cause problems locally, I dont want to advertise to local businesses here in Thailand. In the global sense though... I am doing the same as I would If I were to be working back home. I mainly target clients in my home country, so I wouldnt say im directly competing with thais on that front. Once in a while I get a project that finds me from OZ or UK. I mean any online job would be competing with someone from any country.

Strange though... Its kind of like saying that checking your work emails while on vacation would be considered illegal. Granted im staying here longer than a tourist, but still its kind of the same idea.

checking emails while on vacation, is not considered illegal, but then again a tourist is not claiming "residence" in Thailand and using overseas work to fund their life style in Thailand...wink.png ...so a very poor comparision

I wouldnt say thats a poor comparison... checking/responding to work related emails would still be considered working, no? Either way its a foreigner doing their work for a company in their home country. Sure, the timeline is different but either way, your pumping money into the thai economy by purchasing goods here. So really it's the same thing and according to the law quoted earlier its still technically working :)

Its definitely a very grey area, but the reason why I posted this thread was to get others opinions and maybe I could get some useful information to educate myself regarding this matter.

  9. Got it, so technically I would be considered illegal but as long as I dont advertise it, shouldnt be a problem since im tucked away in my place.

You'd need to show 40K a month going into your bank and certified by your embassy to get the 1 year extension to a non-imm visa, but getting the non-imm itself I don't know.

My bank account is a joint SCB thai account. Do I still need a letter from my embassy or would presenting the thai book bank be enough?

Any Idea if they ever ask where the money comes from? Or not a problem?

  10. Hey Guys, I have a couple Questions I hope to clear up from you guys as there seems to be a lot of great advice here.

    1. With the recent push in Phuket of ousting illegal workers here, it got me thinking to the freelance side of things. If I were to be working freelance as a designer for companies back home in USA but living here in Thailand. Would that mean that I would be considered an illegal worker? I don't advertise my business in Thailand, nor am I interested in competing with the local Thai's.

    2. In June I will be applying for a Non-O as now I am married and just had a child 2 months ago. I Want to get a 1 year O-Multi but I dont have the 400k. I dont know which is better, Vientiane or Suvanakhet, but if I can show that I depost 50-70k a month would that be able to be enough? The only issue I can see is if they ask where the money is from, should I not mention that I freelance for companies overseas as this might be considered illegally working?

    3. Given that I deposit 50-70k in my thai book bank every month would I still be just as lucky to get a multi-O from Vientiane as I would in Suvanakhet? Traveling with an infant would be much easier with Vientiane as I am traveling from phuket. Fly to udon and take a bus.

Thanks guys for all your help.

  11. This kind of makes me think about freelance situations...

If I were to work as a freelance web designer but 100% of my clients are overseas in North America and Europe, would I considered to be working illegally? I wouldn't reach out to the local thai community at all given all the risk. But overall does working for multiple companies in let say USA but living in thailand constitute as Illegally working here? I would love to know.
