  1. Ken that could be somethign different, I don't know everything about Udon, it's a pretty big place. But nothing around the Police station. There is a Phantom shop by the rail road tracks, that you can order after market parts from and he probably can help you out with stock parts. The quality is not goign to be the same but in the end they will do the same thing. My back rack and sissy bar is so strong that it survived a direct hit from a pickup to side at the rear. The bike flew sideways for 20 meters and it was just fine. It went on to be used on two more bikes with slight modifications. As a matter of fact the sissy bar is on my current bike.

To find the Phantom shop from the train station go towards AEK just before the light on the right side two doors from the corner.

If he doesn't have it in stock and he can order it. That should fit your time schedule. An hour installation at most.

Ray, thanks for that info. I think I will check it out this coming Tuesday. I can find the train station on my Udon Map, but sorry, I don't know what your abbreviation "AEK" stands for???

  2. No the guy in the thread doesn't do luggage racks. There is one in Udon but is custom fabrication and will take weeks. Since you live Korat might not work out for you.

Well you are right, I didn't want to wait "weeks". I was planning on being in Udon and was hoping to be able to order on day 1 and pick it up on day 2. The rack I saw in Nong Khai was quite nice and "simple". The guy said he had it made in Udon, near the police station, but he didn't mention what time frame to complete the job. Oh well.

  3. I have a Phantom and am interested in having a custom made luggage rack added to the back. Someone once mentioned to me a shop in Udon near the police station. Wondering if the shop mentioned in this thread is the one or if not, does anyone in the area know where it is?

  4. If you do not really want to make a trip into Laos, you should be able to just go to an Immigration Office in Thailand with your wife and get a 60 day extension for 1900 Baht. Danish friend here in Korat just did this last week at the Korat Immigration Office.

  5. One of the Farang boys up here (Korat) has overstayed on a 30 day entrance to Thailand by about 2 weeks. He is married to a Thai and I think I understand he can go to immigration to get an additional 30 days (payment of 1900 Baht). But because of his overstay I'm not sure if this presents a problem. Can he pay the overstay at the immigration office in Korat and get his extension?

  6. I got my licence today. In fact i got two licences as they decided i should have a bike licence too. After they discovered the AA stamps in my international licence meant Automobile Association and not AA - BB - CC (?????) then there were no problems. I had to get photocopies of my documents as i needed a seperate set for the bike licence and that was done for free. I think the whole process, including a trival indor driving and vision, test took about 40 minutes and cost 360 baht.

By the way, i had to get a residence certificate from Korat immigration, it cost 9 baht, (again for photocopies), and was done in 20 minutes. The staff were happy and smiling as they always seem to be in that immigration office.

Thanks for the update. Good to know that they will do first time licenses even if your address is in another area. And thought you knew that you would need a "residence certificate", either from immigration or your embassy. The "crazy" people in Bua Yai office would only accept the embassy paper a few years ago. God, I hated them! Korat Immigration is GREAT! :o

  7. MODS please do not move this to the motoring forum. I don't want to know where everyone else got theirs. The question has been asked more than once in that forum and has been left unanswered, (or the search function is a pile of bovine dung).

    Hello Issan peoples,

I am hoping to get my Thai drivers licence in the next few days. I have all the paperwork but i don't know where the Korat licensing office is. The Chaiyaphum office insists you need a WP to get a licence so i can't go there.

I know it's on the road from Korat to Chaiyaphum, somewhere near Non Thai, but i have driven down there and i can't locate it.

    Thanks,

    Nidge

It's located in Jo Hor, the suburb of Korat that is located at the first traffic light you see after Non Thai (coming from Chaiyaphum). The license place would be on the right hand side shortly after you pass the big bypass road that goes North to Khon Kaen or south to Korat. Only problem I see that you might have is if this is the first time you are getting a license they may say you have to get it in Chaiyaphum because you live in Chaiyaphum. I know you can renew it in Korat.

  8. Been raining all night here also (and still)...45 Km SE Chaiyaphum City. Was going to motorcycle to Korat today, but...think I'll see if it is any better tomorrow. Will be motorcycling to Nong Khai on Friday....hoping it is not raining there and that the flood waters have receded. :o

  9. Kaeng Khro it is then, I am sure too. I stayed at the Thai Ngam Palace Resort (spelling?), which was a very nice hotel indeed, 800baht a night as I remember.

However, still no mobile contact. So can I ask a supplementary question? Feel free to tell me to post it elsewhere. I am trying to do the visa application by the book, but when it comes to getting a persuasive holiday letter/re-appointment offer from her employer, we are stuffed because of her unimpressive job and the fact that she has only been doing it for a couple of months. So no employers letter. Weekly wage slips at the most. Does this mean no visitors visa?

I would have to say that the chances of getting her a visitor's visa (with the info you have provided so far) is probably slim to none. "Compelling reason to return to Thailand" on her part is a prime criteria. A couple of years ago I tried to get a visitor's visa for my wife to go to the USA with me on a short visit (I am from there). I was/am retired here in Thailand. Long story short...refused...the officer claimed I had not provided enough proof that she would return to Thailand. Oh well. If you check the Thaivisa forum on "Visas and migration to other countries", you will find many such stories and lots of info on "your chances".

At any rate, I still wish you luck and hope all works out. :o

  10. On my map, I see a place called Kaeng Khro. Phonetically it is sort of similar to the OP's Gangkhor. It is northeast of Chaiyaphum City. But really need more info to be able to help. I would suggest that OP PM one or both of us (Nidge) with a contact mobile number and one of our wive's can call and get better directions? :o

  11. I live somewhat near Chaiyaphum. Where is Gangkhor in relationship to Chaiyaphum City? I might be able to assist with some pictures.

Thanks Ken. I will look at some maps and email you. Where is the AA or RAC Thailand when you need them with a handy door to door route finder?

I have access to a few decent maps of the area, but am unable to find anything close to your spelling of "Gangkhor". Phonetically I am trying to come up with possibilities, but so far no luck. From Chaiyaphum city, which direction would you travel to get to "Gangkhor"? How far?

  12. I'm guessing that you might be referring to the Sri Patana Hotel.

Sripatana Hotel 346 Suranaree Road, Nakhon Ratchasima, THAILAND

    Tel. 0-4425-1652-4 Fax. 0-4425-1655

A bit run down, but cheap. Lousy breakfast.

If I were going to stay in a hotel in Korat with family, I would probably stay at the Sima Thani Hotel. 1500 per night should be available if you book on the internet at any of the discount hotel sites.

  13. Sorry I was unclear, I didn't read all the names well enough. My fault entirely. The Incredimail comments were to Ken. You, the OP, seem to know better, and I do most heartily recommend The Bat! to you. But not to Ken. He wants smilies and stationery.

So you chose to "flame" me. :o Up to you Cathy. My original post about Incredimail, I asked for comments....and I got them. While not convinced to stop using it (I don't care that much for the stationary, but my Mother and Sister's do), I am happy to learn about The Bat. I can certainly see the business advantages and now understanding a bit more what the OP was looking for, it is quite obvious it wouldn't be Incredimail. And sure I like smilies. :D

  14. Have you ever think about how that human like your mail, special with slow connection?

I hate mails coming with that fancy stuff, not only why they need a lot more space/resources/speed etc. etc for downloading but even attacking my security system.

Maybe you don't need security but think about others?! I do not like to need to check at all times why some Mail is bounced, or go in the spam filter, recognized as virus pp.

That kind of mail is nothing but unsecure!

    Cheers.

For sure Reimer, I can't/won't disagree that the "fancy stuff" takes more resources, etc. I do agree also that The Bat looks like it would be a good "business email client" (at least observations so far).

I think I still like Incredimail for the personal stuff (and as stated, most all of my mail is personal). Don't or haven't seen any "security" issues using it (not to say there isn't any, just never gave me a problem). Oh yea, and my MOM likes it too! :D

    Cheers.

Again may you should think a bit of others as well?!

More than 50% the mails coming to my mail server and get marked as unsecure, if they pass my AV system, are just mails like that from Incredi mail with special backgrounds and that "fancy" stuff.

For Mails like that I've set my Mail Server for to bounce back that mails, even if that mail is from friends. I do not let anyone compromise my system even not with that so named "false positive" stuff.

    Think about it.

    Cheers.

Ok, I'll think about it. But I have many friends whom I send mail to their business/company email (from Incredimail), and not once in all these years has there been any hint of a complaint. Maybe they are too shy to complain. :o But really, it seems like you are taking some of the "fun" out of email. Not to worry. At least you have made me think about it. :D

  16. Though I wouldn't use GMail or Hotmail whatever it's called this week these Bat settings below should access Gmail with POP, assuming you've set it up within Gmail first.

    Account properties -> Transport

    Send mail

    SMTP server - smtp.gmail.com

Connection - secure to dedicated port(TLS)

    Port - 465

Authentication - check 'Perform SMTP..' and 'Same user/pass..', the rest should be unchecked

    Receive mail

    Mail server - pop.gmail.com

Connection - secure to dedicated port(TLS)

    Port - 995

    User - [email protected]

    Authentication - regular

    HTH

    Regards

Yep. Authentication regular did the "trick". For whatever reason when I set it up, it "defaulted" to one of the other "authentications". :o

  17. I've been using Incredimail (premium) for a few years now. In general I have had good success with it and I like a number of things. I just downloaded "the Bat" for some comparison. Just a quick take.....Wondering what others think?

Incredimail: I can choose to download smaller mails first.

The Bat: Cannot see how to do this.

Incredimail: Can add "signature" to my outgoing mail.

The Bat: Cannot see how to do this.

Incredimail: Lots of letter "skins" and "smiley's".

The Bat: No letter skins (that I can see anyway), and very limited in the "smiley" area.

At the moment, this is only my first impression, but I will give The Bat a try and see.

    Comments???

Seems to be that you've to learn a lot.

But one thing, I use The Bat for my business for years and I don't want that fancy stuff on my business mails and even not on private. But I do understand that you like to download the small mails first because of the fancy and havey stuff.

And that's exactly why I didn't like Incredimail because of that things. I need to send messages via email and not movies or that stuff you talking about.

    Cheers.

Ah ha. Indeed I have much to learn with The Bat. (Got 30 days free trial to see) I can't as yet get my mail off from Gmail using it. :D

And fair enough, perhaps The Bat is more "wonderful" if using it in more of a business environment. I'm not.

"Signature wise".....indeed I found the "template" thing, so I guess that would/could work to add my signature. :o

  19. Nokia offers updates TOO often to suit me but I always download the update. The last two versions work great.

I agree that older versions had a lot of problems. Maybe they hired a programmer who finally knows what he is doing.

I have changed phones many times and was always able to copy from phone to phone with the SIM card regardless of what king of phone.

Gary, wondering how you do that? I just bought my first Nokia (6300) and all my contacts are on the SIM card. In using the Nokia PC Suite (CD supplied version 6.83.14.1), I cannot see any of these contacts. If I transfer a contact to the phone memory using the phone, yes can see it, but what a pain....one by one. I tried some Google search on my "problem", but so far haven't really come up with anything. :o

  20. I wanna know if I should tell the Thai wives of my Farang friends that the Farangs are going with other women behind their backs. :D

I don't think we need to worry too much about this. :D

There is no way a farang could fool around with other women in Thailand without everyone (Thais)knowing it. :D

But by all means...................if anyone can prove different.........please share your secret. :o

"I'd tell you, but then I would have to kill you". :D
