  1. What you would get would be a certified copy without the true and correct for the passport.

Although you would think they could do the true and correct part for a passport.

Just having copy with the embassy stamp is normally good enough.

Thanks for the clarification. I had also emailed the embassy and they just replied with pretty much the same information.

  2. The embassy will do a certified copy of passport which will cost you $50. This will satisfy the Amphoe after you get that translated and certified by the MFA.

You should check with local Amphoe because some do not require it.

The reason I ask is because from the embassy website they say:

"Certification of True Copies of Documents

We often get requests to certify true copies of educational transcripts or diplomas, bank statements, court documents, or other such official records. Unfortunately, our offices cannot ordinarily provide certified true copies of documents. Such requests should usually be addressed to the office which issued the document in question. For example, certified true copies of academic records should be requested from the registrar of the institution that originally issued them. For more information, please consult the Department of State Travel site."

  3. When I applied for my yellow book, I had to get a certified true copy of my passport from the US Embassy, have bio page translated into Thai and have that "legalized by the MFA.

I am thinking about getting the yellow house book and it has been mentioned that I need the "certified true copy of my passport". However I am a bit confused as to the process of "certification" at the USA embassy. I know the embassy provides notarial services as well as affidavits (sworn statements). But so called certification doesn't seem to be possible. So can anyone tell me exactly what they did at the USA embassy that met the "certification" requirement for the yellow house book?

  4. Does anybody know if they have an office in Korat City. I'm looking for satellite service as I live outside the city about 80 km. Emailing them has been useless with no reply.

"I don't understand why so many of you are so concerned about just going to the embassy in Bangkok. If you have the income to deserve the retiree extension, you should be able to afford the trip once a year."

How could you be so short-sighted and inconsiderate? For many, it has nothing to do with being able to "afford" a trip to Bangkok. Some are handicapped and CAN'T travel - and why waste a day of your life on a trip to Bangkok when it's not necessary?

    .

My sentiments exactly. One doesn't have to be handicapped to not want to go to BKK.

  6. It is not possible to get any document certified at the US embassy. That has to be done through the State Department in DC.

Authentication of Vital Records, Academic, Commercial or Other Credentials Issued in the U.S.

U.S. Consular officers are not empowered to authenticate public documents issued in the United States. Such documents include vital records (birth, marriage, death, and divorce), as well as academic, commercial, or other credentials. Consular officers do not have access to the records of the issuing office or the seal of the custodian of these records.

Only a certified copy is possible which many place will accept.

You should be able to get a certified copy from the county or city where you got married either online or by mail.

You cannot get an extension for having a Thai child if you are married.

"You cannot get an extension for having a Thai child if you are married." -- Not correct, I am married and have been getting 1-year Non-immigrant "O" visas on the basis of supporting my children for more than 15 years.

A visa yes but not an extension of stay.

There have been many reports that immigration has refused an application for an extension based upon having a Thai child when they are married to the mother of the child. The rules in the police order are written to be for a single parent.

I know an English guy in Korat who is married to a Thai and they have a son. He has received his extension from Korat Immigration for several years, based solely on being the father of the child.

  8. My Swedish friend arrived in Thailand December 1 on a double entry tourist visa. His stamp says he must leave by January 29. Can he go to the local immigration office (Korat) and extend that first entry for 30 days or must he leave, exit Thailand and come back. The idea is that we want to go to Laos on Feb 4 and not before, so would like to find a way to keep his double entry "alive", but not leave Thailand until after January 29.

  9. Sri Pattana is 650 without breakfast and 680 with. The breakfast is crap. Room are fairly large, comfortable bed. Air, TV etc. Located opposite the Check Inn Bar and Restaurant which is a great place. Plenty of local transportation available, tuk tuk.

  10. Many embassies in Thailand used to advise against carrying your passport with you but recommended to carry a photocopy. The reason is that many passports get stolen all the time. If you carry your passport all the time and have not experience a theft, you are lucky. Ask your own embassy how many lost or stolen passports they have to deal with every week.

The embassies don't put that on their websites any more, because it would be advising to violate Thai law.

In the past more than 20 years, I have carried my passport only when crossing international borders (or travelling near the land borders). When taking domestic flights, or checking in at hotels all over Thailand, my DL has always been sufficient.

The passport is too valuable to risk losing, it stays in the safe. coffee1.gif

    Yup. Agreed

    Me too. Absolutely spot on.

Have to agree. After 22 years in Thailand, I recently lost my passport. What a painful experience it was.

  11. Everybodys choice, and I respect yours, but as I recall it only took about twenty or thirty minutes to drive from Tescos in KK to the resort. Hardly what I would call remote.

I have been trying to think what difference being in a city would make if you went somewhere for a party, unless of course, you had no intentions of spending time at the party and intended looking for entertainment elsewhere. I simply cant think of any other reason unless you care to explain.

Ok. One night at the resort would have been a possibility, but that was not originally presented as an option. And actually as I said on another thread, I previously made an attempt to book the weekend via the website email system and never received a reply. Now it has just plain "turned me off" to staying there. And yes, that's just me.biggrin.png

  12. The idea was that - since Isaan is a bit of an area - we have one more or less central location for the party. Those living in the vicinity attend the party. Those living further away stay over the weekend. Needless to say, this option is also open for those living in the vicinity.

I must say the number of sign-ups is quite disappointing compared to the enthusiasm shown in the thread asking for a party in general earlier this year. What's wrong? Please let us know, we want to make this happening!

For me, too far away from the city.

Too far away from which city??

    HL biggrin.png

Guess I should have said...Khon Kaen. Basically I am saying I would rather see the party within a city area than some remote resort. That's just me anyway. My original vote was Nong Khai and I live in Korat, so travel is not an issue.

  13. Only 12 from KK signed up ? What a pathetic bunch - give Udon a try

Again, in my opinion it's the choice of the resort that is the problem. If no other suitable place could be found in KK city, then perhaps it would be wise to give Udon or Korat a try.thumbsup.gif By the way, I did not vote for KK, but I am guessing the people who did, are thinking along the same line as me...the resort is not a good location.

  14. The location is too far from Khon Kaen, there is nothing to do there..Kranuan ....however look at Khon Kaen..lots of places to go..not confined to one single location

As stated above, wrong place, too far from Khon Kaen city. Not only that but I originally thought, what the hay, I'll go, so I went to the resort website, "filled out" the reservation and I have yet to receive a confirmation or email back from them. So much for "paying up front".
