Thanks for the info, still undecided, perhaps I was looking too much at a visit home. That said I love my life here and the only jeopardy is losing my Thai & then UK emergency funds which might threaten that. Damn I used to be a decision maker ;-)

BTW define Oldtimer! lol (never considered that might be me)

Not sure where you are, but I know two old timers with heart problems who were very happy with their treatment and the cost, at the goverment hospital in Sattahip.

    Might be worth a look.

Best of luck whatever you decide.

Take a good look at the small print in the NHS charter. Veterans are  mentioned in detail, indeed I physically downloaded the applicable pages which covered my wife and children too but none of us needed to test it in the 3 weeks we were in UK.

Thanks for the info, I have gone though it but don't see anything applicable to me. I have gone through the aww chit stage - make a plan. My approach now is more pragmatic, I have time (I think). I hate some of the chit on this site but some of the members and information to help my life here have/has been gold.

Thanks JB300 and Rc2702, sometimes seeing you are not alone is pretty good. My Thai wife want's me to see a doctor but I am concerned if might affect my eligibility to fly. I lived with this supporting my father so am thinking I have some time for choices.

    Thanks

Try Skyscanner or matrix.itasoftware.com, easy to check out flights 1 month at a time.

One point, you're #supposed# to show you're settling back in the UK & not just visiting for health reasons so having a return ticket might not be the best idea (not that they could find out I guess).

Plus buying 2 Singles might be cheaper than an open-ended return.

Edit: With Matrix you can also enter airports within (IIRC) up to 2,000 km away so easy if (like me) you use a regional airport (Manchester) to search Scottish & London airports at the same time

Thanks for the options, a bit like the friends I used to know, missed that.

Always happy to try and find a cheaper flight. Ok so when you looking to leave +/- 3 days ok? What kind of budget you happy with what route would you least like and where are you disembarking?

I've got some time (and am chit scared of the cold atm) but thanks for asking. 20k plus seems to get me an open ended return with Etihad. don't care when I fly or route. just looking at options..

Go back as  a political  refugee ,  aka immigrant .

What  you have contributed to  the UK system in the past , now means   absolutely nothing .

We  have  lost it , forever ,   good  luck .

Hope your not a troll elliss, I am luckier than some as I am a veteran and some more routes are open to me (we shall see). I am used to running my life, depending not so much on my country or others. Used to working (slimly sometimes) within the rules I could probably blag the NHS support I need. Looking at flights now Etihad openish return seems the best option but any ideas welcome.

I believe I have to establish UK residency to fall back on the NHS (which I did pay for most of my life). Family history of heart condition, grandfather died in his fifties, father quadruple heart bypass at 56. My chest pain and tiredness indicates I better do something about it and I don't think I can sustain possible Thai medical costs.

Hmm wish 20p ripoff was the height of my problem ;-)

What do you mean? Where in uk you got to return to and what you got to look forward to when you get back?

  12. I am a 58 year old Brit & would welcome any advice on accident/emergency treatment insurance.

I like many who chose to live here don't require doctors/hospitals often.

been hit a couple of times on the motorbike and healed

got sick a couple of times and wife/local pharmacy got me through it.

I would be happy to have some cover and would be willing to pay a reasonable rate.

Long term problems would "Run for home" where the NHS albeit grudgingly would sort me out..

"Thai life Insurance is the best, 1500.00" this I cannot find?

  13. I know a guy who lives around Pattaya and he looks for free meetings and gatherings where free tea, coffee, snacks and food are offered. He then attends the meetings claiming an interest and fills his belly as much as he can,

He attends support groups, church fellowships groups even AA meetings.

I see him when we have get togethers at my house. nice guy overall but we all know he is only there for 1 reason and thats to eat and drink for free as much as possible.

before you ask he does have an income, not a huge income but certainly enough to live and feed himself.

His view is that his sole purpose in life is to "save money and live on as little as possible" (his words.)

    i think that qualifies

He needs some physiatric help, really.

sorry Gaz wont make the top 10 even, I live for next pension payment

thinking how I can "spead the wealth" for those I love/like a bit diagnosed ptsd 2012 but getting over it :)

    loving my life in Thailand..

  14. I often take my own water in to bars and other high end venues. Why. I purchase 20 litre bottles for 12 baht. Why the <removed> do I want to pay 20 or 30 baht for 500ml here in Phuket.

And six members liked this crap and cheapest charlie post.

    Well.

I can't decide who is the cheapest charlie?

    - the pumpui mao baa man, who OFTEN takes HIS OWN WATER to bars and venues and saves up at least 20 - 30 B per 600 ml water,

    or

    - the chinese population here in BKK, cause they can f@kk the goat for 0.5 B.

    But my single question is:

Why do you go to a bar, or to any venue at all ??? You may buy your drink in Makro (big pack = big save), you listen your OWN music at home, and your TH wife (sorry for her) can dance to you, AND EVERYTHING IS FREE !

    MAN don't waste your money!

Get's my vote Loles, two years in Thailand now 1st one learning the 2nd enjoying (on a low income for most), still have a problem not leaving 10% tip when I have a proper night out (but Thai wife keeps me straight ;)

you get to enjoy the bar/venue without expecting others to keep it afloat?

  16. Hi,
A Thai Neighbour has found a wallet containing a Queensland driving licence, Visa card & an amount of cash (Baht).

She is making local enquiries but I wondered if anybody may have heard of the loss (chaps name is Aluin)

Long shot maybe but I thought worth a try please PM me if any info which may help regarding reuniting him with his wallet.
    Thanks
  17. There is a difference between sharing opinions and some Thai visa members continuous moaning and groaning about their constant daily struggles with the Thais and their plight of living in Thailand.

It appears there are a lot of extremely disgruntled ex-pats living in Thailand and often wonder why they remain here? Although I am now beginning to find all these gripes about everything Thai quite entertaining. It really does make me think that all my troubles in life are very trivial indeed.

My prognosis is; that there are too many ex-pats that are spending too much time in isolation, (most of it self imposed) with too much time to think about too much. The solution is; Thai visa creates a forum called; rants and raves, for the participation and whinging entertainment pleasure of the moaning old farts, or simply just get a life.

  18. Paragraphs - OK

No, no question - just posting a little information

Yes Beachclub, paid 20K at the border & obtained 3 month Non O at Penang consulate (240 Ringit - 2400 baht, visa company charges 10/100 for taking passport & docs there and returning the next day). I now will extend that to a year at Phuket immigration.

  19. So I went to Phuket immigation to see what I had to do to move from ed visa to O (marriage) visa 1 year stay, Turned out my teacher who took my last extension money did'nt actually pay for the stamp (& pocketed money Baht 2500) Rather panicked Tourist police helper informed me that 40 day+ overstay was probably fine + arrest + deportation (get outta here before that happens) and while I was in Thailand gonna pay a bit if the police checked me out & the above. played the "face" game with the boss of my school & got 10k (against the 20K fine at the border) & 4500 baht cost of border run to Penang (Malaysia). The run out (KBV was the company - mention Pi Mai & maybe discount but please PM me first) was quite smooth & the hotel/organistion/food was good. Itinery - leave Phuket 9pm ish, hit border when the office opens & pay overstay fine (if required) arrive hotel for a cool breakfast & the day & night is yours, breakfast 9am (8am Thai time) & leave an hour later - arrive phuket 9pm ish. (11PM for me due to police stop (dunno why) & blown tire (my thought was a Tyre pressure check might have helped ;-) Finally I met a british guy who went fot a work permit O/B and a swedish guy the same the british guy said he had to do this every 3 months, the swedish guy told me he could stay for a year but he could'nt afford it so only got for 3 months. dunno if this is informative please PM me or make comment if required ;-)
