  1. Not so easy to indentify without the head. But judging from the body shape and scale pattern colour, it lookS like a type of Keelback or Common Wolf Snake. I've seen plenty of these snakes over the years and are harmless.

However, NEVER TRY TO HANDLE A SNAKE THAT YOU THINK IS HARMLESS.......

  2. A "modern roundabout" is a type of circular junction that was developed by the United Kingdom Transport Research Laboratory in the mid-twentieth century, in which road traffic must travel in one direction around a central island and priority is given to the circulating flow. Signs usually direct traffic entering the circle to slow down and to yield the right of way.

Basically, once you have entered the roundabout you have the right of way. All traffic approaching the roundabout must give way.

However, this rule does not seem to apply to Koh Samui's first and only roundabout. Most locals seem to do the oppersite!

It’s yet another logical system, developed centuries ago by the Europeans and then copied by Thailand.......Most of which end up like spaghetti!

is that because u r suggesting they are stupid or enuropians are? Too be honest a junction with traffic light thank blink might been better

It's not the type of traffic system that is the problem. The Roundabout in Chaweng should work very well and is a big improvement to the old juction.

If accidents occur then it's a combination of driver error and a lack of rule enforcement........The road surface breaking up on the roundabout doesn't help also!

So Ogg, which roundabouts do you think have become the most hazardous? Thai. British or Australian? w00t.gif

Errrrh, now let me think............? Do you know the answer?blink.png

  5. Isn't it time this folly was either banned from the public highway or that roads were padestrianised? I've heard more sirens today than Arfur Daley!

It's not our celebration to ban. Let the Thai's get on with it. If anything they should ban all the rude and aggressive western tourists who go over the top.

I noticed on friday night the Austrialians were the main culprits!

  6. firstly RIP to the pore victims & condolences to their family.

Only a few days ago i was nearly wiped off the road by an aggressive truck driver. Samui is becoming a hostile place to

drive around these days. Put a low level Thai Man in a truck and he becomes King Of The Road. The general standard of driving in Samui by locals, expats & tourists is pretty pore to say the least.

It's really up to the Law Enforcement Agencies to ENFORCE THE LAW & PUNISH RECKLESS & DRUNK DRIVERS.........I will not be holding my breath!

  7. I am not a bar owner, actually I never go to bars. But I like music. So where, when and what do the The Black Roses kick ass! play?

Apologies about the bar owner rant.

The Black Roses play in Penny lane on Friday nights, Samui Rock Cafe Sunday nights and the out door venue (forget the name) opposite Saver Mart midweek. They have two different singers so they sing all sorts. Murphys and Bubbas share another band witch is pretty good. Like most bands in Samui...you may need a few beers to fully appreciate the music!

  8. Whao! Whao Whao Whao....Thats English for stop a horse!

As a concerned resident i'm only raising a question. But as usual all the usual suspects go all defensive. If you read the post the concern is about the increasing noise levels on the Chaweng beach rd. Not about a scenic view whilst walking a dog. Chaweng has many 3,4&5 star hotels. How many of there guests complain about noise pollution?

Yes and if you actually cared to read my post you will see that I have posted how I think your view as to it becoming like Ibiza is a complete load of bull!!

What part of my post is annoying you so much? I have just gave an honest opinion which just happens to oppose yours completely and I took the time to even explain it. If you care not to read and take in what is being said then that is entirely up to you but in no way and I being defensive and a "usual suspect". I just happen to think that your headline is a complete exaggeration, nowhere near the truth and very drama queen esque that's all...have a nice day now if you can find somewhere that has no noise which is impossible according to you mind you so......:-)

Hahahahaha, I'm lovin this topic. It's turning into Handbags at dawn!.......or is it Ear Muffs at dawn?

How weird....I clicked on a post to quote it but got this instead....sorry, this new modern technology as my new iPad has me baffled...lol

Ha ha, these threads can sometimes be quite comical for sure, it's all part of the fun :-)

Anyway, I don't need ear muffs at anytime as I don't hear any noise remember....lol. ;-)

You must have clicked on this post because it's the topic thats making the most noise!guitar.gif

  9. How amazing that many of you are offering advice and giving us the benefit of your overwhelming wisdom. It is a shame that you could not get to the meeting last night.

The people who did attend are determined to do something to help Samui be a better and safer place.

What Chaweng Beach really needs are fully qualified LifeGuards. I qualified as a lifeguard at the age of 18 but now i'm 40 the baywatch 6 pack has gone!

It would be really dangerous to stick expats on the beach with out lifeguard and first aid training.

Needs all kinds of people from spotters to alert life guards

    To medics on the beach

    Main thing is communication

I am sure that training shall be compulsory or the life guards shall be dead also

Well said Big C - one of the better posts under this topic

All sorts of help is needed. Not a full list but....

Organisers, spotters, people to help with planning, fund raisers, scroungers, Jet skis, back up people, medical staff, first responders etc etc. Also - many nationalities would be helpful. A lot of tourists that get into trouble in the water do not speak English or Thai. There needs to be a lot of education and training of lots of different people from different backgrounds.

All of this will not happen in one day, one week, one month, etc.

But if all we do is to sit at our computers and type sage advise (because it makes us feel good?) then it will never happen. Last night some people said - "we want to help to make this to work"

Last year was Samui's busiest year ever. This year is looking to be even more busy.

Now, let's support them. Actions - not words please.

Updates and Suggestions can be posted to

    https://www.facebook...cueUnit?fref=ts

It's a valid point. It's high season and i'm busy with work so unfortunately i didn't pick up on this post until after the meeting.

  10. No, that cars with the loudspeakers are not new, but here since ever, there were even boats in front Chaweng beach with loudspeakers years ago. Next no, most 3-5 Star hotel guests are not disturbed, because there are no loudspeaker cars during nighttime, less bars on Chaweng Beach road than ever, not one with live music, wind from the East during high season and most rooms are away from that road, traffic noise is more disturbing, but only at hotels with rooms directly next to that road. And next no, at the center of commerce there are no 3-5 star hotels, that strip between Chaweng Regent and The Library, and there are also many buildings with shops and restaurants in between the street and the small bungalow resorts there.

So, what are you talking about?

No Live music on Chaweng beach Rd! When was the last time you went there? The Black Roses kick ass!

Advertising trucks are nothing new. One of the first to use them was the Reggae Pub playing ''No Woman No Cry'' Everyone loved it. Next were the boxing stadiums "To Night To Night...Get the seat Earlier...You will never disappointed!" Again, everyone loved it. Now the street is overrun with them. Many from foreign run venues who try to be louder than all the others. You would think that the foreign run businesses would show more intelligence. It seems like they have turned the volume to max and are overloading the speakers! If they turned the volume down a few notches i'm sure everyone will listen and not cover their ears. Are these people Tone Deaf or may be just Brain Dead.

Over the years many of the long time tourists don't stay in chaweng anymore. Many stay in places like Bophut. Why...because Chaweng has got way too loud over the last few years. Anyone who really thinks these tourists didn't complain about noise pollution (not just from the trucks) must be living in a parallel universe.

So when the Question was raised ''Is Chaweng Beach Rd becoming the next Ibiza" (Could be Benidorm, Torremolinos or even Blackpool) Why are some members blowing their tops? It's almost as if I'm up against a load of Bar owners!
