Seem to recall there was an airport departure tax in Thailand around 10 years ago ?
There still is - it's lumped in with your airline ticket. That's why you don't have to queue in front of a machine at the airport to pay the tax.

There still is a departure tax - it's lumped in with your airline ticket; that's why you don't have to insert "cash only" into a vending machine before going through immigration at airports anymore.

Should never have got rid of the trams. Bring them back. Ban all non-essential traffic and use congestion charging.

Only this weekend? And just before pay day - the BIB must be really desperate this month.

However, Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yoobamrung said yesterday "there was nothing complex" about the case, adding that money was the real motive for the murder. It would be normal practice for any minister to come out saying "We'll leave no stone unturned in this investigation - we'll rule nothing out". Chalerm's statement is a classic tactic to divert the course of the investigation down one route, which should ring alarm bells. Sadly, as this is Thailand, the truth will never be known for sure

Thailand is not renowned for hosting things - just look at the 2012 FIFA Futsal World Cup? Nothing like hosting a world championship with a stadium that didn't meet safety criteria. Nope, Thailand is best left to look on in awe at how other countries really can get on with organizing things. As for F1 and all its razzmatazz, it'll never even make it to the grid.

Taxi mafia will have a field day. Very much doubt if Phuket could cope with the influx of many thousands of tourists/world TV/race officials et al.... me thinks this race will not happen in Thailand any time soon.

He also urged passengers to avoid using the services of cabs equipped with smaller sized wheels...
Are we now supposed to check whether taxis have 15" or 12" radials? Are the meters "set" for a certain radius of tire? Do smaller wheels have to rotate more thus clocking the meter at a higher rate? Lots of unanswered Qs!

Ready for what? Once the AEC does kick in and those wonderfully modern trucks from Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia start rolling across the border Mr. Serpico and friends and their antiquated cattle trucks will be cast aside with barely a glance. But I shouldn't worry, Mr T will instruct his pretty sis to buy every household in Isaan a new one to carry their now over-priced rice.

As long as Singapore remains an autocratic dictatorship under the guise of a democracy, then this is what you'll get. Singapore may be great for many things, but underneath it all is a very sinister regime.

Erm....hello - it's April Fools' Day!!! And here's the biggest give-away " However busses, trucks and taxis will be exempted as they are driven by professional drivers who can handle their vehicle safely"

I bought my pre-paid SIM in 2006 from a 7/11 store in Bangkok - I was asked to show my passport details and my passport number was recorded; so as far as I know, I'm registered.

So much negativity from some people; as if you're living in some hell-hole. You're not. You've probably just been here too long and now complaining in the same way that you complained about the country you came from.
Looking out the window it's a lovely day in Bangkok; and I'm going to enjoy it.
