Update: I’m doing fine now, practically no drinking for at least 7 days. Just had some soju and a beer with my girlfriend 2 days ago but since then no real desire to drink because I realize how terrible it was making everything. No physical dependency, it’s all mental here, and I’ll probably be able to stop or heavily cut back to maybe once a week. The 3-day hangovers and sleeplessness aren’t worth it.
what the hell are you talking about? You can’t buy weed here legally, least of all for foreigners. Not even allowed for foreigners medicinally.
Good to hear about your "controlled drinking". Weed is not legal but the oil is. Do some research, there are threads in this forum itself as to where it can be obtained. I myself am going to a clinic I found out about on Silom tomorrow.

RIP Michael. Though I don't contribute to the threads much, this definitely is one of my fav threads. Loved his cycling pictures in rural areas. Definitely he was a very nice and a decent man. He will be missed, keep safe all.....

Fake Bailey's ........
1 teaspoon red cup coffee, 2 teaspoons Milo 3 in 1, fill to 1/2 cup with hot water.
Add 3 teaspoons sweetened condensed milk and 80ml Hong Thong rum (or or SangSom or whiskey), throw in blender with ice, whizz until smooth.
Serve over ice, best drunk quickly while it's still smooth and frothy (usually not a problem).
Hmmm, as my daily body requirement is of 400 ml of whiskey. Guess will just have to invest in a calculator and multiply the rest of the ingredients by 5????

I shifted to Bangkok in 1991. Applied for RP in 1998 through an agent. The deal was 500K for the whole of the family. Half upfront. I was granted the RP within 1 year of applying. My wife and my 2 under age kids got it the following year. All I had to do was sit opposite the immigration officer, present my hands for the finger printing. All the time my agent was present. No interview, no spoken Thai checked. At that time I knew it, that with time it will get more difficult and more expensive. Am happy I went ahead with it then. Yes, I had been paying regular taxes since 1991 and had a work permit. The official fee was included in the 500K.

We are not talking about my English here we are talking about Yinn's English.
Not sure of the quality of your Thai specifically , but I am sure that her English is much better than most Farang's Thai.
It is certainly much better than mine
False narrative.

Just received my work permit after renewal. Renewal was applied for yesterday with the same THB 200 medical certificate where only my weight and blood pressure was checked by the doctor. It was accepted and the work permit renewed with no problems.

You are absolutely right. But essential for you or everyone ? I can buy it without a PP.
That's what the law says. All the big money changers require it, the rest of them I do not know as I don't frequent them because the smaller ones also give lower rates.

I use my Thai D/M license for money exchange. There are different places that ask for PP, but it does not mean that you have to use PP only.
For selling foreign currency, driving license is enough. Where as if buying foreign currency the passport is essential.

I managed to get PR way back in the good old simpler days. Of course had a work permit and was a director in a company. For 5 years had been paying the required taxes.
It was through an agent, so a fixed rate was demanded (which was about 4 times the normal fees) which I agreed to. No Thai language speaking or reading. Just sat opposite the IO on the day decided upon, about 4 months after applying. Finger printing and the rest of the formalities were done without me uttering a word. Received the PR after a couple of weeks.

I am paying THB 250 per hour. The maid comes 3 times a week, each time 2 hours. That is the going rate in downtown Bangkok. Most of them are Burmese, so understand English as well.

If you want real happiness then go to Phnom Pehn and have 'happy' pizza available at many restaurants for breakfast, lunch and dinner. True happiness and bliss ?
