You say,who wants to holiday in England? The answer is,most of the world. It seems all of the world wants to visit England and no one wants to go back to their own country. England is a great place. When I tell people I am from england they always say the same thing,"You are lucky".
Even though we are ruled by a bunch of anti-british politicians (I mean Cameron, the Lib/Dem Con and the establishment)the indigenous people are sharp, modern and very intelligent. We are lucky to live in such a well organised country.Such a beautiful country, too.Could it be that people envy us!
Isn't England the place with never ending rain and grey skies? (At least it is in most movies :-)
English weather is pretty much like the state of New York, some days good, some days bad, some years we have too many grey days, and other years we are spoilt with lots of blue skies. We don't try to paint our country with rose coloured specs, so in movie and TV we portray it as it really is, sometimes raining and some days sunny

I think the author is a little out of touch, the main guys struggling are the expats on minimum pensions or perhaps renting their homes in UK. The UK (esp. Wales) is a beautiful country and I will never dis. my country, I'm only here for the cheap beer and warm weather, if they had this in Wales I'd be on the next plane out. But he is way off on prices in UK, so perhaps he hasn't been back in all the years he's been here. I take my family over every year and we love it (summer time only though) but I live in the cheapest part of UK (south Wales valleys) and you cannot get a bottle of beer for less than 3 quid, that's 130-135bt, for a small beer, here in Udon I can still buy small beers for 45bt a little over a quid. Eating out in UK has stayed stagnant since I left in 2002, and prices definitely have risen here in Thailand, just look at Tesco food court, K.Kaen franchise when I 1st arrived all their meals were 30-35bt, now they're 55-60bt, cinema was 70bt (in Pattaya) then, now I pay 160bt here in Udon, more than 100% increase, so prices are rising. The pound is weak right now, but there are two sides to a coin, try telling this problem to the small british firms that export to Europe and have been able to increase more orders because of the weakened pound.

This is a load BS, even the form that we must fill in (TM.30) doesn't make any sense, the 1 part is a list of all occupants names, but the second part has only room for 1 traveller, half of the 2nd sheet is filled in by immigration ripped off and given back, it should then be given to that tourist to place in their passport (similar to the 90 day reporting) My wife has challenged this many times but they won't back down insisting it is right, yet everytime we hand 1 in the officer fills in and stamps the 2nd part differently to the last, this second part is what is required if you then want to attempt to get a licence/car in your name (I know it's different/easy when living in a private house, but more and more foreigners are asking us to register them just to get a licence). Large hotels do not do this, they simply pay a large back-hander every month/year for the problem to go away, and this is the issue here, they want the backhanders from the little guys. 5yrs ago immigration started a section on their website allowing GHs to register their occupants online, it still isn't finished 5yrs later, at least in Udon Thani/Nong khai it isn't. This would make it far too easy for us GH owners not to break the rules, result -no fines and no tea money.

Does anybody know for sure the HP on these bikes, Europe is getting 46.9 because of A2 licencing rules, but the US is getting 54.5hp, it seems everywhere I read, sites are assuming it's 46.9hp, but looking at past history with Kawasaki, the Thai market usually gets the US spec, ie. Ninja650r not ER6F, and why would Honda roll out the restricted engine when there is no restrictions in place?
Looking for positive answers rather IMOs or guesswork
How do you know about us getting a 54 hp version? I never heard that.
It is 47 hp for thailand.
Mmm, you may have hit the nail on the head mate, here are 2 reports, but there were a lot more, so something tells me sites were getting their facts wrong:
http://www.asphaltandrubber.com/bikes/2013-honda-cbr500r-priced-5999-usa/
http://bikeadvice.in/honda-cbr500r-breaks-cover/
You'll note both these reports were written in November, and neither are able to quote the precise CC of 471, so BS reporting me thinks.
So moving on, that claimed figure of 27km/l is amazing, surely it's not combined (which it has to be under EU legislation these days - I knwo we're not in the EU, but would make life simpler) so assume it's Extra Urban, Highway, etc, still amazing, would love to hear from you gguys over the next few weeks with some real figurs. My Ninja 650r is lucky to get 15km/l but I do scream it (150kph is my average cruise on highway), but I'm lucky to get 210km b4 the light is on, these figures could see me getting 300-350 even with a heavy hand, very interesting, as my typical drive out is 400-800kms

Tyga has has dyno tested the CBR 500

Why worry about what the US or Europe reports. If your buying the bike here this is what you get. And if you add an exhaust you get an extra hp.

I'm not worried what US or Europe get, I know what they are getting, I'd just like to know which one Thailand is gettinc, coz that's where I'd be buying, I know it ain't getting different figure again, so it's either or, thought that was clear in my original post, and those dyno runs were done way back b4 the Thai model was introduced, so it doesn't tell you anything, were they testing a Euro model or a US model, but thanks 4 ur input mate

"Politics and business are inseparable in Laos (most of SE Asia) so no different to Thailand really, except for the much smaller population. The Vientiane elite may be tiny but very visible; some families are as rich as their Thai cousins, driving the fanciest vehicles too".
If you are rich in Laos them the chances are somewhere in the family is or was a civil servant (a corrupt one), and the only winners in all this will be the Thai police, they will want a big pay off for this to go away, the kids family will have the funds (5m baht car), and the family of the deceased won't need the money, I can see the police rubbing their filthy hands together at the scene of the accident

My wife told me that the report on the news channel stated he ran a red light and he actually hit them at the crossroad just down the road from me, can't understand why the red light hasn't been mentioned in this report

Probably angry because they set his girlfriend up.
To me if these cops were just setting people up to stop drug abuse that would be fine but maybe it is extortion.
And its probable
that these cops probably are involved in the distribution too!!
P.s not Thai bashing just statistically speaking
It doesn't matter what is motive is, here in Thailand the number one lesson we must all learn is to keep shut, be polite and if you can walk away (ie not your problem) then walk away. You never win in Thailand, he sounds like a stupid immature kid, with a lot to learn - gonna be an expesive night for him nowProbably angry because they set his girlfriend up.

I think many lwas are written in Thailand just for them to sound like they care or are doing something, heard the latest that they will carry the largest written warning on their cigarettes, "hey - that Thailand, what a brilliant country" SHUT UP, anyone here longer than 5mins know all the laws passed around are a joke, many used on temporary basis to line pockets. During my 4yrs in Pattaya (many moons ago) I rekon half the bars I frequented around Soi2/3 and 7/8 were owned by local police, ie they were the pimps, if you take a bar fine for a girl you're a pimp, that's immoral.
As for the plight of the young poor classes it's bull shit there is no work, anyone with a business up here in the north-east will tell you how hard it is to get or keep staff, they just want an easy life, and their lack of morales makes it easy for them to open their legs for a fast buck.
Thai ministers don't care about prostitution, in fact they positively want it to remain, it keeps their pathetically run country turning over, they just don't want to know or hear that they are being laughed at. I don't want prostitution in Thailand, I wish it could clean up its act, it ain't no fun when you take your wife back to your home land and have people sniggering behind your back, but I say to my wife "Thai people over generations have caused this and there ain't nothing we (us two) can do to stop it"
PS - never paid for sex never will, never pimped a girl, never will, and I would never expect a girl to be with me who's old enough to be my daughter - this is not just aimed at falang, in the north-east I frequent mainly Thai establishments, the girls here leave me alone (skin too white) but I see exactly the same sick crap going on among the Thai men with their Mia-noys - incidentally, do we really believe these married men go out night after night to visit the mia-noy and the wife hasn't got a clue? I think they know, so they stay with their cheating spouse for the security, prostitution is a grey area me thinks!

A person drinking 1 can of soft drink per day has a sugar-based calorific intake of 5,600 calories per day
There are about 140 calories in a can of 330ml Coca‑Cola.
Based on 1,800 carlories per day for an average Thai person, the average Thai person drinks 2 cans of coke per week.

Yeah I thought these figures were a bit strange, yours seem much straight forward, and to be honest looking around up here in the north 2 cans a week (as an average) is probably not far out, Thais seem to love it hate it, none of my family touch the stuff, but they do like their sweet jelly filled drinks and Oshi iced teas (all just as bad - but would this tax effect them, it seems the claims are only against soda drinks)

I think someone has hit the nail on the head with the pepsi/est war, take over pepsi manufacturing & distribution depots with a new inferior product, rip off the marketing and everything else that went with it, once achieved find an excuse to put the tax up. So many expats are unaware of the number of Politicians with their sticky fingers in so many non-political pies, if there's money to be made they are there investing in it, just like when they all invested in ethanol plants and then increase the revenue on 91red and force it off the forecourts, step 3 increase the price of E10 & E20. Lubly-jubly this time next year we'll be billionaires Rodney
But some of the comments on here are making me laugh, people going on about fat Thais, now don't get me wrong you may well be slim and handsome, but take a look around and ask yourself should the expat community really be commenting on Thai obesity? POT-KETTLE-BLACK are 3 words that come to mind 55555555

sorry - again I should have read before hitting post - I missed out that Taksin's daughter went to worrk for McDonalds, who remembers that? 26bt minimum wage
-
Sorry - I hit the return key, what I wanted to add was, do the maths and you'll see this is just bogus political crap.
Firstly the typical working class Thai worker earned 200bt per day for a typical 8hr day (that's 25bt per hr), Well there was always a minimum wage in Thailand, it was in force during Taksin era it was 26bt/hr - remember in a publicity stunt his daughter went to work there straight from education. Now there has been no stipulation on the length of the working day, so leaving employers wide open to just increase the working day to say 12hrs, hey-prestow 300bt a day achieved, for the same volume of work per baht.
Now let's look at the other holes in this report. Forget that his so accurate figures (right down to single digits) don't add up to 52,426 (that was probably a calculator error) how can someone officially (34,000) claim for benefits when they haven't been made aware of their unemployment status? The unemployment benefit scheme is a private insurance policy all workers should pay into (I doubt it's really private - just another way for politicians to line their pockets), they cannot claim from it unless they were made redundant, therefore the 11,000 that resigned are also not entitled to benefits. So now we are left with the mere figure of 3,735 that are entitled to benefits. The policy states that in case of accident or redundancy the policy will pay your registered salary for upto 12wks (less in some circumstances) so if these people were laid off due to min.wage lets give a bogus over-the-top figure like 6k p/m, and we must assume from the way this is written the 1.13bn is solely a cost set against these 3,735 who are now claiming benefits, that means each person has received 302,000bt in their first month of unemployment, whereas a more realistic figure would be (6,000x3,735) 22.4m baht. As usual Thai politicians trying to sound like they're doing something yet all they're really doing is putting themselves on a world stage for the rest of us to see how dumb they really are look how many people are laughing!!

Phuket Crackdown On Russians Heads North
in Phuket News
Posted
No one is saying Russians can't work, they just have to abide by the rules like the rest of us, the jobs listed on their WP will never be jobs that can be done by a Thai, and this is all policed at the application stage, I think they should target the Indian suit makers next, I'm sure they can't all be Thai nationals (I know some are). And yes Russians are needed as tour operators and real-estate negotiators, but only in a role as translator. The ones with the big bucks don't work illegally, they may employ people illegally though, but they shouldn't should they!
