  1. I'm sure the police on Phuket have better things to do.

But that could make their lives uncomfortable.

And I'm sure the Phuket News could find some better stories than reporting every single minor arrest on the island.

And it still amazes me that plain clothes cops are happy to pose with their victims, for their faces to appear in the local press. Obviously that moment of fame is important to them.

MM, I can assure you that in the two forces I served in that would not have been allowed and anyone posing without permission would have faced disciplinary action but TIT so comparison doesn't really apply.

  2. I've worked in Iraq for 11 years I can produce about 20 payslips in total, payslips prove nothing it's a bit of paper.

What is more pertinent is her work permit and visa which people dismissed earlier, her employer will have applied for her visa, but maybe she didn't need one if he has diplomatic status?

Interesting point about diplomatic status because if he has it changes the whole picture. Remember the furor and diplomatic incident last year when US authorities arrested an indian diplomat over alleged offences involving a maid ?

I have no idea if the head of mission of various UN agencies in each country will have it, can anyone expand ?

  3. Funny stuff. A lot of what Prayut has done is to gut the income to the police

from their corruption activities. So instead of cutting off the head of the viper,

he has basically cut down the food source to the viper. What happened to Pongpat

    was a good example.

So now the police are happy their feet have been

held to the fire ?? Man you could not make this stuff up. I suspect at

this point the police are terrified of being gutted from the bottom to the

top, given their past horrendous history. So now time to suck up to

Prayut and hope he does not wake up one day and decide to REALLY

reform the police, not the namby pamby reforms from the past.....

    What happened to Pongpat

    was a good example.

Nothing to do with corruption whatsoever, he was removed for other reasons..................whistling.gif

Am fully aware of the other reasons, as you are. However the fact remains

he was a very high ranking policeman ( pretty sure the CIB is a division of

the police) who was caught with a mountain of money

and items of value, and was stripped of it. So theories of why it happened make

for a wide ranging discussion, but the reality is it did happen. This would have

unthinkable before Prayut took power. Prior to him it was always a few little

fishes put into inactive posts. And no, do not construe that statement as support

for Prayut, I actually feel he has gone off the rails. But it does show how

    changeable things are here.

If you think it was not corruption, then that means he was a bagman, which leads

to a whole lot of other interesting ideas.....

I know what you you are saying but I suggest that no matter which govt was in place this would have happened, after all the years of Nelsonian blind eyes, because the factors we can't discuss would have forced the issue.

  4. A quick look then " not him or him or her and definitely not him, the rest are yours so get on with it. "

The headlines will read that the PM has ordered action against corrupt officials but without any report on how many have ' escaped ' and why except maybe ' insufficient evidence ' despite the Justice Minister saying there is.

How many corrupt officials did Yingluck bring to justice? It wasn't even 1% of this - in fact it was a big fat zero!!!

Why try to compare, it proves nothing and he hasn't brought anyone to justice yet but let's hope he does fairly and without being selective. I doubt it though.

The Pongpat case doesn't count as there are factors that can't be discussed.

So far all that's happening is that he's to be given a list of 100 names and he and he alone will decide if there's further action.

In addition he made it clear from the very beginning that his handpicked NCPO etc are off limits.

  5. >>During his weekly speech, he said that the Civil Aviation Department would need to have more staff, including foreigners to restore public confidence.<< Quote

Wrong!! To restore public confidence Thailand needs another leader!!

Well, perhaps you should run for office in that case.

Quite honestly, this guy is the best Leader Thailand has had in recent memory.

With those in office in recent memory that's no accolade and he's doing his very best to prove he's as bad as anyone.

  6. Let's be honest. Many smoker's have a death wish and these warnings are just a confirmation that their choice of death is assured. Insurance actuarials prove that smokers are good for society by not living long enough to collect their old age benefits. Also, I believe that adults should have the choice to abuse themselves in any way that does not cause harm to others. Smoking is a victim-less crime as one can't victimize one's self. Nanny Statism is anathema to me.

    "Smoking is a victim-less crime..."

Since when has smoking been a crime?

You just have to get your childish little remarks in don't you ?

Smoking in prohibited areas is at least an offence without being a crime per se.

I'm sure even you could work that out but not just have to criticise but never contribute.

  7. An article by Pavin Chachavalpongpun . Associate professor and well-known junta critic. 'beset by corruption scandals' which fail to materialise. Even the microphone issue seemed more the 'usual' practices of higher level government officials. The type that after having worked their way up as government bureaucrat no longer see a difference in what's theirs and what their budget only.

Insinuation on Prayut's wealth, his little brother's wealth (income from land sold, but that follow-up some like to forget). A Pol. Gen. with 340 million Baht. Of course something must be wrong.

Some NLA and cabinet members refused to disclose their assets. Suspicious! All reported assets eventually. Forgotten. NACC disclosed a month after receiving. But that's normal.

The first list of 100 officials against whom the Justice Minister says there's evidence is being presented to the PM for him to verify the facts then he will decide any action.

He gets a list presented and he will verify the facts so what will he do read the case files then re-interview witnesses, examine all documentary evidence etc.?

Obviously not but any action being authorised by him personally says so much.

  8. Where was the Media when some members of the previous/several past government where robbing the Thai people through corruption right up to and past the Head of the Criminal Investigation Bureau, PM's, MP's. Corruption is a CANCER !!

Most of the outside World doe not know, they only know what the Media decides to pass out.

Thailand is in uncharted waters, no other person/group has tried to make the necessary changes in Thailand.

Dear General/PM keep flushing the device until the water is clean, and do something about the usless killing in the South, Thank you for your service from a Farang Guest in this Country !!

Mr Brown Tongue. What a sad post!!

Another farang, who thinks everything is okay as long as the beer is still served cold and sport is shown on big screen.

May I suggest you read Art 44 twice.

Ah never mind, it is a waste of time, so I will leave it there..................

There have been a few, as one member put it, ' I'm alright jack ' posts.

True it may not affect us foreigners so much since we can't vote so can't be denied that vote and are unlikely to be involved in politics other than having a view.

I have views, often very private for obvious reasons, because anything that happens can and does me affect me in one way or another.

It's not quite the same but I am a registered overseas vote for elections in Britain as there are things, eg pensions, that most definitely do affect me and I want my say about which politicians get their sticky fingers on political power.

Many members have Thai families and many will be of the extended variety. It's not comforting to think that a family member may express a view that has them held incommunicado for AA as an example.

Too many foreigners see things here that are supposedly acceptable yet would have a seizure if anything similar was proposed in their home countries.
