  1. How could waves punch a hole in a ship like this?

The only explanation I can think of is that the hull must have consisted only of rust covered with paint.

it is amazing the power that water has... especially the amount and volume involved when in rough seas...I could knock you down with a full bucket of water if you were unaware it was about to hit you....now multiply that by hundreds of thousands and you get an idea...the noise and vibration of big waves slamming against a hull needs to be experienced to be believed and can be very nerve wracking while it lasts/........

  2. there is so much more to this story including the very first contact with the officer concerned, the reason for his appearance, his questions and those individuals that called the officer..(these were scooter rental people by the way !)

It really doesn't matter if it was a motorcycle rental shop who notified immigration. The fact remains that he broke the law by overstaying his visa by 3 months. You'll never be able to convince me this was an accident caused by forgetfulness or confusion about policy.

I'd like to point out that I'm generally not a rigid law and order type, but as has been pointed out by others on this thread, the overstayers put the rest of us in a bad light, and will possibly make staying legal more cumbersome.

Maybe the motor cycle renters had his passport and wouldn't give it back because they were trying to scam him so he couldn't leave the country.

    Who knows the real reasons!

You are so much closer to the truth but I'm not going to say 'Who, What Where & How' all those involved played their games....coffee1.gif

  3. Amazing..the BS that you lot write....absolute conjecture and crap...I was with Andy the evening prior to this incident...I know/knew the plan for the following day which in part included the Phuket immigration office....there is so much more to this story including the very first contact with the officer concerned, the reason for his appearance, his questions and those individuals that called the officer..(these were scooter rental people by the way !)..so much is missing from this story but reading what you morons have to say is far more amusing than what exactly did take place and why it took place....dream on you TV sad people......you know who you are....coffee1.gif

  4. I am not convinced this is a real post... seems like a troll. If she is upper middle class or rich and you are not, your chances for more than a one night stand or an affair are slim, but not impossible, assuming you are very handsome, and dress well.

But my comments apply to the situation, which some guys actually find themselves in, if they are new to Thailand and some other Asian countries.

You have to be polite and nice and... compliment her. Notice what she is wearing and say it looks nice. Compliment her hair. Say she has lovely smile. This communicates you find her attractive.

Next you need to get a date. Keep asking her out to dinner. Find a nice restaurant (not French or German... unless she has said she likes that food, which is highly unlikely). Get to know the restaurant and its menu so you can be in control when you go. Korean is a good one, cause most Thais like Korean food and ordering can be fun... cooking can give you both something to do which will make the Thai feel at ease.

Ask her out. If she says no a few times, dont give up. Do not ask her out every day. Wait at least 72 hours before asking again. Ask her for a date at least 6 days in the future. If she owns a restaurant, she may well not have time in the evenings.

    So, then ask for coffee.

Once you have been out for a few dates, you will know if she is open because she came to see you a few times.

If you want to make the move, do it in a private place - hers or yours. If you live in a one room studio with no kitchen 4,000 Baht a month, this is not a good place to go for it. If you have a group of friends, consider inviting her for a weekend with your friends (or better yet her friends) to Ko Samet.

Lastly, you need to remember when it comes to doing the deed, you need to be more aggressive than in the west. Lots of girls play coy, play games, but really want you to take them home and more. The culture does not empower women to be open about their sexuality.

Agree !...this sounds like someone pretending to be foreign, writing in English....read the OP again......coffee1.gif

  5. If his USA passport has been revoke as American media claim, how would he be able to travel so freely?

    Here is how:

Snowden’s ability to board an Aeroflot flight Sunday to Moscow, despite the revocation of his passport and the warrant for his arrest, was one more move in a series of artful legal and diplomatic maneuvers that have involved China, the Kremlin, WikiLeaks and the Ecuadoran government and kept the 30-year-old outside the grasp of the normally long arm of U.S. justice.

The Obama administration and politicians on Capitol Hill are likely to be infuriated if Snowden makes it to Ecuador, where he has requested asylum. But the former contractor who had worked at an NSA facility in Hawaii until he fled to Hong Kong skillfully placed his fate in the hands of WikiLeaks and countries that nurse animosities toward the United States. And Snowden’s odyssey is likely to exacerbate the United States’ strained relations with China and Russia

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/legal-political-maneuvering-let-snowden-flee/2013/06/23/5643e0b6-dc36-11e2-bd83-e99e43c336ed_story.html

I wasn't sure before, but NOW I kind of think Snowden is a ... traitor.

Not so much for the leaks. For what he is doing now. Understandable from a personal self interest point of view but he has made himself a public figure. He is allowing himself to be used as a anti-American propaganda tool by unfriendly countries. Doesn't that fit the definition of traitor?

I'm not so sure I agree with you on this point.....

About 40 years ago Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein broke the Watergate scandal and exposed the Law Breaking committed by the then, U.S. president Nixon.

I really can't see a difference whether the news is leaked by an investigative reporter or an 'employee whistle-blower'........if the surveillance is unauthorised from the agreed procedures laid out by congress (or whoever), and therefore it's not legal, I would not personally care about the source so long as it was credible....

I think with the modern media available these days the impact and speed of the news circulation around the globe is the thing that 'upsets' the administration in comparison to how news travelled 40 years ago....

  6. Lets see tell the people to protect themselves from the Mosquitoes. How about the Government taking steps to eradicate the mosquito population.w00t.gif

Have you been outside lately? Any idea of how nature works? How on earth would you eradicate mozzies from Thailand? It would take tons of chemicals and possibly a few decades of perseverance. And after 25 years of mozzie hunting, you will probably find yourself in a country where living has become nigh impossible due to a decades-long contamination with mozzie-killing chemo. Perhaps the advice of the Thai government isn t that bad after all...

There is not much the state can do about it, but they should advice and oblige the public to reduce their water contains outside their property and in public areas, because those small water contents that are everywhere outside are the production factories of mosquitoes.

Yep..totally agree.....as a 'swamp deweller' for more that 20 years it becomes your own responsibility as much as possible....

mozzies don't generally travel more than 100 feet from where they hatched, during their lifetime.....so if you can establish a 200 foot minimum radius that has no standing water, ie, old tires, tarps, buckets etc, to facilitate their breeding and hatching, you will have somewhat cut down their presence....mosquito's that bite are, I believe pregnant females, they bite to get blood to nourish their eggs, they bite on the principal of 'take on-drop off ' which means if disturbed, i.e brushed away during the 'bite', they have taken an amount of your blood and deposited an EQUAL amount of their cr*p into your system (I expect they do this to maintain 'in-flight' weight and balance whistling.gif ).....this is facilitated by a 'double straw' type tube, a straw within a larger straw that allows a cycle of 'intake and exhaust' at the precise, same time...therefore, the last thing a pregnant mozzie wants to hear is a MALE mozzie, so, if you purchase one of those sonic gadgets that emit a 'male-mozzie sounding frequency'...they should stay away from you......wai2.gif

  7. I have met a few men who have suffered the same and have lost their all .

I warned one friend at his wedding reception that he was about to be taken to the cleaners .

He has been , robbed of all his capital , two houses and three cars .

ALL Thai womens interest in foreign men is ONLY for money .

There are some good women/wives among them , but many are just thieves without scruple .

I am fortunately married to one of the good honest ones .

I cannot believe how foolish and naive foreign men are .

coming from a more advanced civilization , they make the mistake of equating Thais with themselves .

Thailand is like a venus fly trap .

Many women have already been married and have children , there shouldn't be a bride price for second hand goods .

Bt2,900,000 was a rediculous sum to pay to get married !

So your wife is ONLY interested in you for money...?...(as you say in the fourth line of your post)

That's sad...., that you recognise this and accept it.....I don't understand how you can then say that.." I am fortunately married to one of the good honest ones...".....sounds sort of contradictory to me.....sad.png

  8. Maybe some tips for the planmakers ...

    * provide empty spaces where you can park only 2 min to disembarking people or goods, many time trafficjams occure cause they stop on the road.

    * make some tuktuk gathering parking spaces at the beachside, and allow only 1 tuk tuk parkingplace at every corner of a soi. when 1 goes , the next one from the gather place come to fill it up, this wil make the shopside free to park instead of full of waiting tuktuks, pedastrians will not be annoyed

    * provide a walk bridge at bangla to go to the beach

    * motorbike parking, maybe better at shop site, cause mostly from staff working, so no crossing the road, and only 1 line, beachside now mostly double line, wahts result that many motorbikes get blocked. if parking there double line should be vertical instead of horizontal

    maybe some good ideas ?

Exactly what drugs are you on ?cheesy.gif

  9. What a fantastic idea....!
Yes..dig up the road all the way along the beach from one end to the other with a big ditch just like they've done..(well, started anyway..) along the road from Phrabarami Road (Esso Gas Station), down to the Police Station and the Patong Hospital toward the rear of Jungceylon so they can install a new drainage system....
I watched that fiasco for 6 months which began in May last year and today it is still a mire of mud when it rains and impossible to navigate on two wheels, rutted on four and a is like a 'shamal' or sandstorm when it's dry.... half the time they worked on it, the remaining half nothing happened...(well apart from some businesses that closed down, i.e. the clean and modern 'Super Cheap'..(yes, 'clean and modern Supercheap' !), a couple of decent restaurants....it was, and still is a joke.....considering the lack of roads in and out of Patong, I'm amazed how the contractors get away with taking so long....Yeah, we really need another road dug up before they finish existing projects...the roads in Patong are shy_te....Good Luck with this one when it starts.....coffee1.gif

  10. Denpasar in Bali can issue you a Triple Entry.

    Validity 6 month.

Need to stay 2 nights and prepare flight ticket in n out of Thailand.

Visa runner thanks for the info. Does the Thai embassy website state this, if so have you got any links. I have searched online but cant find anything. Don't want to finish diving in bali and then findout they have changed the rules and I can only get a single entry.

Hi...check this link out...I tend to use it a lot for various countries that have Thai Embassy/and or Consulate...

    Good Luck.wai2.gif

  11. I quit buying store made pizzas when I realised how quick, easy and cheap they were to make at home.

Most kitchen staples include tomato puree, flour, olive oil, cheese and veggies, with the addition of buying a small bottle of instant yeast and maybe a small tin of pineapple the combinations are endless, ham, bacon, chicken can all be variations....and you can keep the dough in the fridge for 48 hours or freeze it.

I use a small round 'Otto' convection bowl-type oven that was less than a 1k Baht from BigC but you could make it lengthways and cook it on a BBQ.......a deepdish 10" costs less than 60Baht to make....(at Phuket airport a slice is 99 Baht !)

    Pizza Dough

    Ingredients:

6 oz (175 gms) Plain White Flour

    1 Level teaspoon salt

    1 Level Teaspoon ‘Easyblend’ Yeast

    ½ Teaspoon Sugar

    1 Tablespoon Olive Oil

4 Fluid oz Hand Hot Water

    Enjoy.....wai2.gif

  12. 500 baht? You must be getting a hair cut in some up market mall?

I get the 80 baht hair cuts with a shave and a nice shoulder and head massage, then give them 200 baht feeling pretty happy about it.

Just try a little road side place.

Why woulkd you want to give some one 200 baht for some thing that only costs 80baht?
I would think it would be to show appreciation for a satisfactory service...it's called a 'Tip'

and in the western world, so $8-$10 would seem a fair price if the haircut, massage etc was good in MHO..?

  13. I end up with a side not centre parting.

The hair parting. Possibly the most unimaginative and awful hairstyle known to man.

    Nah its nature.
Yeah, I agree...that's nature.....but as one with speech difficulties,....I'd like to know which human is responsible for putting the 'S' in Lisp..?
  14. driving a sinking boat full of passengers onto rocks is the last thing i would have thought of doing

but i guess whatever he did worked

Yeah, good thinking...normally the first response to discovering a 'holed hull' on a 'private' type yacht is to stuff it with cushions, pillows or anything else similarly suitable...I wonder what the extent of the damage is....
  15. Typical Burmese. Coming over here, stealing our yobs.

Typical Thai attitude to look down on Nationals from surrounding countries.

Yes, what a coveted job he has, pumping gas for a <deleted> wage and being in danger of getting injured as seen here. I'm sure most Thais would kill for such a job, wouldn't they?

Oh Mrdome...you really need to check out the definition of 'Humour'....!

  16. I don't see it as major hair splitting and I don't think it makes me look stupid for pointing it out. It's extremely incorrect terminology, maybe a bit like referring to the referree in soccer as an umpire or calling the short stop position in baseball the third base.

Errrh ?.......the referee in soccer has exactly the same job/duty/role as the umpire (I refer to the game of cricket for precise-'ness')....and the 'short stop' ..? well, it's the third......
