You did LASIK? I asked a doctor before and he said -15 is too high for LASIK. (I think, it's been 4 years.....I think I asked two, one said yes one said no) It varies from person to person I guess. You had LASIK done at Rutnin?

And in my last exam I was told the presbyopia will be kicking in soon, that will add more difficult I am sure ????

Last time i did full retinal exam there it can to about 5,000 baht. This was using some sort of special equipment that takes special photos - I forget the name of it - and was because there was some abnormal finding. Might not always be necessary.

Yeah Optomap costs money to do, here in the US they offered it to me once and I had to pay extra on top of the eye exam, I declined.

Hi I have very bad nearsightedness, -15 in both eyes. So I am very prone to retina detachment. if there is some impact against my eyes or any symptoms happening, I need to get retina detachment surgery with in 1,2 days or might be partial or total blind. Does Rutnin also have retina detachment surgeons or retina specialists? Any idea how much it costs for retina detachment surgery? If they don't then just go with their recomendation right, should be no problem. I appreciate any recommendation for retina detachment surgeon as well thanks.

Actually it's been a year since my last eye exam for general eye health and retina exam, earlier I saw for eye exam is about 3500 baht is that about right for Rutnin? Thanks for your help

As mentioned several times in this thread, Bangkok has added difficulties compared to some other provinces.

 

Without a work permit or a non O visa most banks will require a residence certificate from immigration or letter from embassy.

 

In Bangkok to obtain a residence certificate you need to be filing 90 day reports 

Obviously not done by visa exempt and tourist visa holders. 

 

So impossible to open the account by myself then, how about using an agent, they will be able to help even I have none of the documents and came in with visa exempt right?

I heard some expats when they were moving back home, and tried to transfer money out of TH, the bank wont' let them transfer it out!??!?!   It's their own money and banks wont' let them transfer the money out!!!  You guys heard about that? what's going on there.

Hi guys sorry to resurrect a 7 years old thread! I just ran into this thread and even tho it's 7 years old, all those talking points still apply right?

So if you don't invest in TH while you are living here, where and what do you guys invest? Just leave the investments at home?

I have watched a few youtube vid and they kept saying if you want to get in Vietnam, better get in on it quick before Chinese and Koreas invest and buy up everything, what do you guys think about investing in Vietnam? Since TH is such hassle for visa runs, I am kind of thinking about having a residence in Vietnam and maybe go back and forth. Is Vietnam really that hot?

Did you guys watch CNN where that nurse blasts on the hospital? she said in the protective suit hospital provided it got a big triangle hole around the neck area!!! while hospital asked them to put on 2,3 pairs of gloves, 2 suits, etc....hole in the throat area <deleted>....Nina Pham also wore the same suit and she volunteered.....how sad hospital gonna get sued to death.....btw Nina Pham is pretty nice looking huh?

some banks in the US you can open THB currency right? would be good idea to exchange to THB when it's at low point. But when you wire money over can you wire THB over? or do you have to convert to USD first?

for HSBC premier account I heard someone said, if you have a premier account in one country, then you can also open up another premier in another country but you don't need to meet the min 50k pounds or whatever the min balance they require you in that country. Is this true? (he said just have the manager write a letter saying that you have premier account with them, then you can open up another account in other country)

I have Kasikorn and they don't need passport in the branch that you opened the account, in other branches you need the passport.

Without passbook you can't take out money anywhere right? must have passbook with you for withdrawal.

doesn't it have something to do with FOMC meeting earlier? about tapering on QE? no one mentioned about FOMC except the TH gov.

anyways am I right about this, they gonna end QE slowly so in the next month to a year or however long they totally end the QE, THB gonna really depreciate, so wire some USD over to TH bank and leave it there, exchange to THB when you need to. Like someone said earlier baht vs pound went down so their pension went up by 14.x%.
