  1. Spiritual probaly yes - Black Magic could be the begining of the magical bond between the thai child and Mum so maybe. I believe it to be more of a comforting thing seen it pleanty of times for various reasons. Have you Ever seen mothers rub the head of there baby when its distressed. The Thai's aremt really into this so hence the blowing. My wife says it good for the baby to know mums there and that probally means its part of the bonding process that somethimes appears to be "magical"

  2. Depends how long ago the passport expired she may need to get a letter from the Thai Consulate confirming her identity to return home. I dont know what the authorities will do at the airport but she doesnt need a valid passport to return home (direct flight). My wife had an expired passport last year and we had no problem booking with Thai Air in fact they said many Thais return home on an expire Passport to have it renewed as they closed the consulate here and you cant get a renewal by post.

  3. A few years ago we had a simular problem with one of the couriers services. They tried hitting my wifes mother up for quite a bit more than what they should have being charging. I was furious and reported them to both the Australain Embasy and DIMA via E-Mail. They took the matter seriously and contacted my mother in law for futher information. Although they are no longer listed as a courier company I regret reporting them as they had the mother in laws details and told her something along the lines "you have made a big mistake and you are in big trouble". to most of us that is not considered much to worry about but it did hit home in Thailand. The Mother was in tears and and afraid to the extent my wife was having panick attacks. The family were on edge for quite a while. At the end of the day I felt pretty bad and realised thing are done differntly in Thailand. In Hindsight I would have been happy to pay the extra rather than create all the stress I did.

I would like to add a friend has been bringing out a lady on Visitors visa and he says he has been handing a "bit under the Table" He believes that the way to get things done or moving in the right direction for most things.

  4. Can you be sure that its being driven by the Father? Hate to say it but its likely your wife is in on what many would call a Scam. Best to "Man Up" and challenge it, go in charging like a wounded bull so to speak regardless of the percieved conciquences. If the wife is in on it you should also accept some of the blame as something in the realationship has given the her the opinion she can treat you without respect.

  5. I got to say that 3 days for a spouse visa would be a record.Or the embassy just had nothing to do at all.Thats great 3 days.Never seen that fast before.

3 Days? One can not get a visitors visa 676 approved in that time. And a spouse visa 309/100, from initial date of DIAC receiving the documentation, processing of the application, then the issuing of the visa? In 3 days?

Perhaps this was referring to the second stage of processing for the permanent resident visa (spouse) 100 and there were compelling circumstances that were taken into consideration, thus the very short time frame.

  6. When we put in for the spouse visa we logded the application in person. The interview was there and then and I was available to discuss any queryies. We asked about a tourist visa in the intrim and said we could apply but needed to be back in thailand before a decision was handed out. They did offer to let us know when that would be so we could return. We never needed to get the tourist visa as 3 days latter they called and said the spouse visa was approved. (I think it has a lot to do with the what was in the application and both being there together)

  7. My wifes sister has come to Australia for a few months and needs to get some sort of insurance, (Mainly hospital). I thought I would use nomads as I had used a few times before but have noticed they have a 10% excess of minimum of 500 USD.

Does anone know of a decently priced policy without the potentcaly large excess? She is allready in Australia.

    Thanks

  8. My wife and I returned to Thailand on multiple occasions whilst she had this visa. The only thing they ask for is notification in writing (they will add it to the case file). E-Mail was Ok. You need to have the case number (and passport number) for reference. All this is written in the booklet (available on the DIMA website).

The only thing that may be needed athe the second stage is another Police clearance and a medical (if spent over 3 months in total).

  9. Although I do not straighout support a coup I believe the answer is simple.

The governments immediately takes decisive action and restores order .

The present government is declared incompetent. The Army takes action and restores order.

The Peolpe return to the polls vote in another goverment - The whole cycle starts again.

    Pretty simple.

The sad part is it may take some bloodshed to break the cycle.

  10. Attention!

New and groundbreaking proposal to end the turmoil in Thailand and make everybody happy:

Let Somchai/Taksin govern the North from Chiang Mai while Sondhi and his Yellow People can govern the rest from Bangkok. The North can than separate and be known as Lana-land or Lalaland. Issan can join them if they wish after a referendum. The Bangkok run part may be called Krungthep-land or Moomooland.

Actually the South may split from Bangkok as well. Apart from Patani state which will surely go to Muslims the Phuket and Samui islands can perhaps became independent Farang Kingdoms. The names for them can perhaps be decided later after few drinking competitions.

    :o Excellent !!!

The following link might just suggest Issan already has plans underway for the future.

  11. Maaaate - You worry too much. I know quite a few people that live in thailand and fly from Thailand with return ticket back there. Effectively they have a ticket from perth to thailand - last leg same as one way never ever questioned by the airlines. If by a very unlucy chance and the worst comes into play at thai immigration apon entry the only thing you will need to provide is proof of onward travel. Could be as simple as a hotel booking or a bus ticket to a neigboring country. If you wanted to play it safe get yourself a tourist visa, If there is going to be any challenge it will be during application proccess not by any of the airlines or thai immigration.

Really thinking about it how did you get into Australia ? One way ticket? That would be more of a challenge than getting into Thailand.

  12. I dont think we are anywhere close to make judgement of the justice system in this case. Charges have been laid, facts are being investigate, a lot of conflicting accounts are being gatherered and god knows who can make sense of what is the real facts going thu this tread.

As bad as people think the justice systen is in Thailand have a look into aboriginal deaths in custody in Australia and it wasnt that long ago. The police here were acused of all sorts of things accusations were made.. the police went on the defencsive denied all involvement passing it of as lies but at the end of the day the deaths in custody just about became no existent. Go figure that one out.

The only reason I brang that up is for those who believe Thialand is an injust world think again. Why not give them a chance to prove they can prosicute this killer cop and sentence him for his crimes.

Really if the Justice system in THAILAND sucks so much why would be on the map of places to go and why would we go there.

  13. After I read the last few posts I cant help thinking .. How often would a Thia cop with a gun be challenged. Would he expect once he had the weapon in his hand the situation should be somewhat pasified and under his control. If he was challeged at this point once believing he was the big boss what thoughts would/could be running thru his mind. Could it be possible that he hit "panic mode" thinking he would well end up a victim himself being well and trully out of his comfort zone or his expected outcome of the situation.

Those of us that have been in thailand for any lenght of time know how much power and respect the police have or expect there. In most cases if they raised their voice showed anger towards someone it would be enought to supress to situation.

I am in no way trying to defending his actions just trying come to terms with some logic behind it. The man has murdered someone regardless if it was out of fear or whatever. He needs to pay the price bigtime for has actions and I trully believe this will be the case regardless what you "there is no law in thailand only corruption types" believe. For sure there is corruption there as as any other place in the world. That unfortunately is how the "world" keeps ticking over. (Challenging the corrupt more times than not leads to WAR or at the very least conflict)

One thing that is a given is the way the law enforcement "people" conduct themselfs in thailand would be considered an "Outrage" in our modern day society". Having said that if we go back a few years in time how would we compare them against our "law enforcement personal" . (Please give it a little thought before you make a negative judgement against my opinions. Ned Kelly, The Irish cops in the US and Oh YEAH and most of them all the "ROCK WORKERS THAT CONSIDER THEMSELFS FREE".( Cryptic, but anyone worth their pinch of salt can work that one out)

  14. Come to think of it, everyone arguing in favor of the cop has the same reading definciency and contiuously misses vital information, Permanent_Disorder, Barryman and you all do it, you only intake half the information and then start spouting untruths when the real information is posted for everyone to see clear as day.... strange. That's fine, but when someone points out the info you missed to contradict your statements you'd think you guys would be big enough to change what you were saying, but instead you just say "WHO CARES"!

Well Damian you seem quite opinionated and claim not to have a reading definciency. So who do you see who done what? You claim others have missed vital information.... (and so on). How about you give us unfortunates that have become a bit lost a play by play summary.

Myself I see the cop being guilty of murder and think its only the degree that needs to be worked out. I dont find favor in what he done but the contrution factors need to be extablished dont they.

I am NOT ready to brand the cop a complete low life as just yet. From reading between the lines about the "ladies" character it could be just possible he was acting in self defence from her reaction after the first shots were fired

  15. There's been a fair bit of random drug testing in Pai. The present Mae Hong Son governor is reported to take the drug issue quite seriously. It was reported earlier in the thread that Reisig and her previous boyfriend were drug tested and declared clean by the police after their quarrel in Bebop.

A point worth stressing. Had the parties been previously found with drugs, I believe we'd be hearing now how these were no good druggies etc. As the last drug test in similar circumstances was negative then this suggests that there is no strong indicator of a drug angle. Speculation and assuming is not sufficient grounds to say otherwise and damage the parties characters. However, until the blood tests are released (and I doubt we will see them) we won't know for sure. Until then, it is required that we give the parties their basic right of innocence (of drug use) until proven otherwise.

Well said. My guess is at the end of the day the judge of the court will be thinking along the same lines. And from what I can gather he/she would be sceptical of whatever was presented as the Facts/Truth. How would you go making a desision on that right or wrong? If the cop didnt go down almost every falang would be using this case as a example of just another coruption in the justice system. One must think on how hard it could be for a Judge in Thailand on a trail like this. But I guess if the cop didnt go down most falang would see him as part of the coruption.

  16. There's been a fair bit of random drug testing in Pai. The present Mae Hong Son governor is reported to take the drug issue quite seriously.

I guess I have to be the one to point out the "Defaults" in the Thai drug problem. I really hoped it would have come out earlier on and by someone else.

    1. There are many havens through out the country were the " Falang" and the "associates " are able to indulge. The "LOCAL" authorities for what ever reason (you dont need to be a rocket scientist to work it out) do conduct drug test and searches but mainly on ..... well I will leave that one for the immagination as well. I could give referance to quite a few places that have "crackdowns" but dispite that the places are populated with falang "party goers".

    2. The "Thai Authority's" I speak of are NOT the local authorities, they are the ones that come in and clean up/out the mess. Im sure many of us (falang) dont even know we have their attension as it starts well and trully under the radar.

    3. One thing about these "party areas" is they DO go through periods of restrictions. These are BAD times for the friends of "Mr Flinstone". After having him in there lives on a regular occasion and finding out he's left town people can and do become very unpredictable, volitile, agressive and violent without so much as a second thought.

Another poster pointed out the problems with alcohol and although I agree 200% I feel this scenario may be somewhat different.

I really do believe drugs ( more so lack of - withdrawl) may have played a big part in this tragety. I really would like to hear some comments from the locals in Pia about my opinions.

  17. This has been a real interesting tread has it all. Take away the tragic loss of life what you have would be a smorgastboard of ideas to a movie script writter. But I fear the only movie director that would touch it would be quinten taratino.

Most of us know or have heard about how unfair the justice system can be in Thailand but we still love to go and stay there dont we. Who really knows who done or caused what? It seems both the lady victim and the thai boy friend have had some trouble on the recollection of events themselfs, which could and probally leads to the following......

Fred Flinstone in PAI.. ( Yaba Yaba do ). Well Ive had the displeasure of seeing it myself on a visit last year. I was astounded about how many "Midnight Runners". I came across in such an isolated sleepy place. Even the smell and offers of "wacky weed" was way above the norm. In fact the place seemed to be a have a mini "woodstock" theme. Now you have to ask yourself about the standard and professionalizm of the police based on that fact on that alone.

I say the "REAL THAI AUTHORITY's should conduct a few random drug tests around town. They just might find out a few more contributing facts to this tragety.

  18. Although a trajic story. Most people still walking around know not to get involed in a fight with a drunken thai.

The Thai's dont hold the copywright for "tourist killed by a local" scenario. Tourists here in Australia who get into drunken brawls with the local rift raft can end up just as dead the only difference its usually by a knife not guns.

One would think Thailand is just as safe as any other popular tourist destination.

A lot of you people make Thailand seem like a very sad place to be open your eyes and look around.

If your worried about Thailand grab your self a back pack and come down under.
