  1. Quite often visiting VIPs stay at the Rattilanna hotel that is at the far end of Changklan Road (Or at the corner before the road follows the Ping River) As a result the police man the road as a sign of respect.

There is a very rich arab shiek who frequents the place so maybe he's back in town.

Ah, yes that makes sense. The Shangrila is around there as well, so I think you're spot on.

  2. I have noticed driving along Changklan Rd (South of the Night Bazaar) there are often some police officers stationed there every 100m or so. I don't think this has to do with the protests because I see them there one or twice a week every week (maybe there are there every night, not sure) Does anyone know what they are doing there? Or why they are there?

  3. 4 Bedroom / 3 Bathroom House in the best location in the City

Nimman area is one of the best in town, and this property is located right on Soi 9. Close to a great massage place, Fah Sai, down the road from Monkey Club, and Starbucks. Plus all the other great places in Nimman.

This is a three story house, one bathroom on each floor. Two bedrooms on the top floor, and two bedrooms on the middle floor. A huge kitchen, with lots of counter space, cupboards, fridge, stove and oven. The house has 3BB 30MB fibre for high speed Internet. Each room in the house has AC (total of 5 AC units). Also a ping pong table for some fun.

The one room for rent is on the second floor, and has a balcony on the back of the house facing North (helps keep the room cool in the hot months).

There are currently two other Canadian guys living there with me age 26 and 29. Fantastic roommates but I found myself a lady to live with here so I am moving out.

    Rent is 6667 baht (20000 / 3) a month.

Room is ready to move in, please contact me if you would like to see it. You have to see this place, you won't be disappointed. Serious renters only.

  4. are they available in Bangkok?

Yes, I believe there is a hockey pro shop in Bangkok that sells them. We are hopefully going to pick up a few there. Any old stick from home will also do the trick, I know myself I have about 10 sitting about in storage at home, just no convenient way to get them here at this point in time. Was thinking if some people were making the trip over and didn't mind carrying a long an old used stick that would be greatly appreciated. Of course it may be too much to ask, just throwing it out there.

  5. As some of you know, we have a ball hockey team here in Chiang Mai. Our Facebook page can be reached here https://www.facebook.com/groups/474711125890763/

We've recently come into a shortage of sticks as five right handed sticks have broken in the past two games. If anyone travelling to Chiang Mai has a few extra sticks to bring with them it would be greatly appreciated. This may be a long shot, but it would really help us out. As always, if you would like to join up for a game, sign up on our weekly Facebook posts, we would love to see you out there.

    Cheers.

Awesome. I appreciate the effort given by dave2 for the directions to the place, but I am still a little confused. Where is it? Do you have a map link?

"opposite British Council on Bumrungrat Rd" Why is that confusing? There is only one British Council in CM.

Don't know where it is, but I can look it up. Thanks.

  8. If she's Thai, don't bother. That is for Westerners. But if you insist, birthday cards are sold right next to the enterence to the stationary department on the top floor of Central KSK, right next to the toy department. Large selection in both English and Thai. Flowers...unless you know what you're buying you could end up getting flowers used in a funeral, really. You can never go wrong with fruits and Thai sweets.

She is not Thai. Plus she got me a card for my birthday so I thought I should return the favour. Plus she understands farang customs so she I think she will appreciate the card and flowers. Forgot about the stationary store in Central. I remember there is a larger one in Airport that I may check out instead too.

All that I am missing now are the chocolates, anyone know a good chocolate shop?

Nic Brown was shot in Nimmanhaemin on June 22, 2013 and we are holding a fundraising event this Friday, August 9, at Bar Eve (and the surrounding courtyard) in Chiang Mai.

Some of you may remember this story, here is a recap with quotes from Nic in Chiang Mai City News. Nic has been taking things day by day trying to get better but is still stuck in the hospital without the use of his legs. We are trying to help raise money to help with any costs he needs to get better. Medical costs, travel costs, living costs and one of the most important lawyer fees. He needs all the support we can give him and we'd love to see the expat and Thai community show some support this Friday at Bar Eve.

    Join the Facebook event here.

We have a lot of great things planned for the night, food, drinks, games, beer pong, music, 50/50 draw, Nicky Bullet shirts. So if you plan on going drinking this Friday stop in at Bar Eve and join in the festivities and help support this good Canadian kid, he really needs the help.

Cheers and hope to see you there.

Bar Eve is located on the East side of the moat, right near Spicy (70/20 Chaiyaphum Road, Chiang Mai, Thailand 50100)

  10. I have a triple entry visa issued by the Thai Consulate in Canada.
I have used my first entry, then got a 30 day extension. At the end of this month I need to get my visa renewed.
Can I get my visa renewed for my next 60 days at any border crossing like Burma or Laos or Cambodia?

They way I understand the process, is that since I already have my visa approved for triple entry it's just as simple as leaving the country and re-entering to get a new stamp, is that correct?

  11. I asked my friend to pick me up some Sriracha hot sauce and he complied. However after the first taste I realized something was off, it was sweet and less spicy than the usual Sriracha sauce I am used to back in Canada. After a little research it appears that Sriracha is often mimicked and produced by other companies. The one he picked up was made by "Three Mountains" where the one I am looking for is made by "Huy Fong Foods."

Does anyone know if the Huy Fong Foods version of this delicious cock sauce is available somewhere in Chiang Mai?
