  1. hi guys,

i am intending to set up a motorbike business running extreme tours within asia.

i am German/australian based in Bangkok and Kathmandu.

Eventually it will be with Royal Enfields travelling from Kathmandu via north east India through Myanmar to Thailand.

I have a friend who runs a travel agency in Myanmar who is taking care of the visa and other permits required within Myanmar. He will provide us with a guide from the Tamu border in india to the thai border in Mae Sai.

our intial tour will be leaving Kathmandu september 15. When the business is fully set up and operational the 4000 km trip will be done in 31 days.

the duration of our first pilot tour is between 5 and 8 weeks. (Checking out hotels/restaurants/ sight) and taking it easy as well.

the return trip will leave bangkok arounfd middle of Jan and will also take 5-8 weeks, depending on how much fun we have)

we will be travelling with nepali numberplates

as i understand we do not need a carnet de passage for India, myanmar and thailand

A foreign motorbike can stay in Thailand for 30 days, longer stays will be penalized (how much?/per day?)

my friends from Germany will have private travel insurance which insures them in case of an accident. Currently i don't hold health insurance as in thailand i am insured through my wife's company (she is Thai)

Wondering if anyone has an idea regarding health insurance for myself (Aus passport, Non O 1 year marriage visa) which covers me in case of a motorbike accident. i have been to long out of australia to be eligible for a local travel insurance.

The other question i have is in regards to a motorbike insurance which covers third party personal and/or property in Nepal/india/myanmar and Thailand. (Nepalese registered bikes). Our Enfield bikes later will be registered in India.

Anyone potentially interested in joining this pilot tour let us know! we are fun guys, photographers, filmmakers, writers, adventurers...

  2. hi guys,

i have just changed my will (australian living in Bangkok) and i need to have it witnessed so its a legal document (by 2 witnesses)

An Australian friend is coming in a few weeks and he can sign but can i just pick any other person (thai) and let them sign as the second witness?

i just want to make sure its legal...

  3. I am interested in doing it in the opposite direction. How much does it cost and is it all inclusive? Do I arrange the Visas?

its not that easy, we need to hire a myanmar guide, i have a friend there who runs a travel agency, he is organizing all the relevant paperwork. we pay him for this service...we hire the guide for 3 weeks he comes and picks us up at the border and drops us off at the other end... there is no way  (yet) to do it without an (expensive) guide...

we are also organising the relevant permits for the indian side as it requires special permit (Naga land)

the route from KATH to Bang is below, we are still working on the return trip

  4. <script type='text/javascript'>window.mod_pagespeed_start = Number(new Date());</script>

rest assured we can ride from ktm to bnk.

we are not going via pokhara as this is detour... we like hair pin roads and head due east from kathmandu.

i have researched for 4 months. we have a partner company in myanmar which will pick us up at the india/ myanmar border crossing and drop off at the thai border post in mae sot...

Would you like to have a Bullet Rani along on your trek? I have 12 yrs experience riding Bullets in India, 350cc and 530cc. I think only 500cc bikes are strong enough for mountain riding...2 ppl plus luggage. I don't think there is a border post between India and Myanmar although local ppl cross over you cannot exit India and enter Myanmar. I hope you plan to come through Pokhara and via Lumbini as the direct route from Kathmandu is full of hair pin bends.Anyone for riding a Bullet around the world?

our pinitial pilot tour will be without support vehicle, but subsequent regular tours will be with support. our intiioal tour will be with a royal enfield mechnaic and roughly half price.

  5. i am in the process to setting up a motorbike tour business with Royal Enfields. the idea is to conduct tours from Kathmandu via india and myanmar to thailand (back and forwards)

we will do our first Pilot tour in october from Kathmandu to Bangkok.

the bikes will be purchased in India, as it is the cheapest there.

i know the Nepal and Myanmar side of things in regards to no need of carnet de passage etc

but still have questions regarding Thailand

    1. do we need a carnet de passage to bring an indian registered  bike to thailand

    2. how long am i allowed to drive a "foreign" bike in thailand?

    3. any ideas on the insurance issue in Thailand?

    4. any other things i haven't considered...

any advise and thoughts greatly appreciated!!!

and anyone who wants to come on the ride, let me know, its 4000km and will take 31 days!!!

  6. back in australia i bought my fuel/oil and air filters at the spare parts places usually some sort of chain, i also bought the engine oil there... this was much cheaper than buying the filters at the car dealerships, its like buying a toothbrush in the pharmacy versus the shopping center.

my wife recently bought a new Mitsubishi Pajero. we need to get the service done every 6 month or 10.000km to maintain the warranty.

we rung the dealership and they told us yes we can bring our own oil/ filters if we like....

now i am wondering what other people feel and do.... is it worth the hassle to shop for cheaper filters considering time and travelling in bangkok is tedious... we live on ratchapruek rd/ nonthaburi...

also not sure where to buy???

    any suggestions welcome

  7. thanks for your post, i am ab bit clearer

so my currwent non o runs out on sep 10, still not sure weather i can risk going 45 days before that or should wait 30...

my wife rung the immigration office in Bang Buathong which is the nonthaburi office. (i life in Nonthaburi)

she was told that the don't do the extention there (is this true???) and we have to go to the Chaeng Wattana office as it is the only one in bangkok (true???) which processes the visa extention (based on Marriage)...

i just want to make sure i go to the right office in the first place...

we tried to ring Chaeng Wattana office but there is only an automated message...

    anyone got any more ideas???

  8. Australian, 49 married to thai citizen.

i recently obtained a 3 month single entry Non O visa in Kathmandu, easily obtained there.

i am now back with wife here in Bangkok and have a range of questions which are still unclear to me, we tried to find out from immigration but the more we asked the more different questions we received....

    1. as i am booked to go mid sep to japan i need to know how many days after entering thailand with my Non O visa i am able to apply for my Non O 1 year Multible entry visa, some sources said 30 days some spoke of 45 days before the visa expires.

    2. after applying for the 1 yr Non 0 visa, how long does it take to receive the passport back? some people told us 1 month? do i leave it at the office, are they sending it back or do i need to pick it up?

    3. cost of 1 year visa (Non O mult entry.

    4. i am going to be 50 years next year and my question is

4.1 is it better to change then to retirement visa or do i have to anyhow or can stay and just continue extending my Non O marriage visa.

4.2 is there any advantages to the one or the other?

thanks so much to this wonderful forum!

  9. i just bought a long tail boat and want to build a cheap lean to structure. i built a lot of structures in australia always with second hand timber and building materials... wondering if anyone has an idea where i can source 30m2 of roofing iron and some rafters/beams/joists...

but i am also interested in othere second hand building materials in genaral for a future house i want to build...

as i don't have the tools i will need to hire a builder... also happy for some feetback some one might have recommendations.

i suppose i should have the project quoted rather than pay by hour...as TIT, 555

and if all fails i will have to buy new...where? i live in Nonthaburi, bang kruai
