I registered two days ago at Makro in Chiang Mai. Attendant said "you will be called after all Thais have been vaccinated".

Why has nobody said "don't take a shower in a lightening storm"?

Porto is a great part of the country. I am strongly considering moving somewhere between central and northern inland. With a background in Spanish, I am finding Portuguese not so difficult spending at least 30 minutes a day studying. I'd like to have some language proficiency under my belt before arrival.
I am finding conflicting information in my research. AFAIK, there is no requirement to have an address or bank account before applying for a retirement visa, but you do need to have travel insurance (including repatriation) and housing reservations for the 4 months that the visa covers. After that health insurance in-country is cheap (and required while on "residency permit").
The country is said to be very accepting of gay lifestyles and was one of the first European countries to legalize same sex marriage. I would imagine the the further into the countryside, the more those attitudes lag behind.
I am finding lots of useful information on https://expatsportugal.com/

A few yrs ago I signed up with itbit in new york and they did thorough KYC and AML checks on me. I passed and they have my thai address in the system. They will wire funds to your thai bank account. They are now called Paxos. (ibit by paxos). They are highly regulated and really professional
Avoid coinbase at all costs. what a pathetic exchange that is. Constantly hearing about them freezing user accounts
Yes, all fine that you set up the exchange in the US and gave your Thai address, but try to set up an exchange in the US from Thailand and you are in for disappointment.

Have any American expats signed up for a crypto exchange while living in Thailand? If yes, which exchange did you use?
Tried to sign up for a Binance.US account but their drop-down menu for, "which state do you live in" doesn't allow me to type in my Thailand address.
Having similar problems with Coinbase Pro; their system instantly detected my IP address was in Thailand and promptly advised me that they do not yet serve Thailand.
Most of my currency holdings are located in US banks in US dollars, which is why I want a US based exchange.
I no longer have an address in the US so I must use my Thai address.
You can sign up and be accepted by US exchanges, but can't sign in from Thailand because they don't accept ID verification from abroad.... even if you use a VPN. Anybody have a workaround for this problem?
-
I'll bet you can't even sign in to your US exchange(s) from here, so no need to worry about cashing in until you are next in the US. They will also detect if you are using a VPN.

Try Kraken. My Thai girlfriend had no problem opening an account and, then, getting her passport accepted.
Maybe don't use the VPN while signing up.Well....Kraken won't accept ACH deposits (like paying bills) and my bank will not do a SWIFT transfer without my physical presence.

I'd love to have some crypto, but..... I want to fund it from the USA (have US address and bank account) but no exchange will have me. They are not accepting ID verification from here even by using a VPN. They obviously can tell when you use a VPN.

Map shows no cases in Chiang Mai or Chiang Rai, so it's no good telling us where the cases are.

Thailand reporting 45 cases of Covid-19, but has 1300 cases of "viral Phenomena". They've just decided to call it something different.

BS. Reading between the lines, I think this is a "scare" article to pave the way to require all expats to have health insurance in the future.

I am getting confused on ThaiVisa, we do not want topics like this, well I do not, go and see the bloody doctor or are you that short of money cannot afford the village doctor.
Next thing we will see is some guy asking if his ass is ok because he has started farting to many times and getting skid marks in his pants.
Oh by the way guys my little dog does a poo and then pulls his ass along the ground, is she scratching it or wiping it.???
Your dog is itching. She has worms.

Wow, this thread has gone on way to long.
1. The more you travel the more you learn how to travel.
2. Always assume you will come back or else you will try to do too much.
3. The more you spend the more you insulate yourself from the people you have come to see.
4. Spend a long time in one place and do day trips.

You don't have it so bad. I live across the street from a biker bar. It's amazing what humans can get used to. I still wake up momentarily each time one passes, but fall right back to sleep. I think having the right attitude might help. I will eventually move, but expect some other bothersome thing will take the vroom, vroom's place. I came to Thailand to relax and no motorcycle can stop that.

Amazon will now ship to Thailand. Mine will arrive next week unless a postal worker steals it.
The screen on my present one went belly-up and is way out of warantee. Went to Pantip Plaza to see about repair, they all just laughed. Called Amazon to see if they could repair it, but they do not do repairs. So I upgraded to the one with built-in light and Amazon gave me a $30 credit. Nice of them since they didn't have to do anything.

Amuses me that everybody thinks they are "defensive" drivers. Studys show that most people think they are good drivers.

Do they not sell "fish tape" in Thailand? That's only if you need to accumulate more tools!

If Thailand allowed foreign tour companies to bring in tourists along with their own guides, tourism would really increase. Every culture would like a tour guide from their own country because most of the dialog to the travelers is about the differences between their own culture and the one they are visiting. It's a huge part of the travel experience. Thai-only guides could never provide this level of nuance.

When attending a travel professional simenar in Los Angeles a few years ago, one speaker quoted 47 different prices for airline seats on one flight on one particular day. And that was just for coach class. There are just too many variables the airlines use for anyone to understand.
My advice: Buy at least 3 months in advance with the best deal/airline you can find and don't ever look at prices for that flight again (unless you pay full refundable price).

The Chiang Mai University pool is open 10 AM to noon, 1:30-5 PM. Closed on Mondays.
I find it can be a little crowded in the afternoon.
There are showers and lockers available, but take your own lock since there is often no one at the desk to issue locks.
Towels are not provided.
I am Done With Thai Retirement Extensions - Relocating to Ecuador or Mexico on Permanent Residency

For me it's not the extensions of stay that get to me. It's the government changing the goal posts on a whim. I had to sign up for no less than four vaccine exchanges because they progressively trashed them for a new one. I can see that health insurance will become a requirement for all retires pretty soon and at 70, I think it will be rather expensive. Yes, having 800K sitting idle is not ideal.
I've chosen Portugal where income tax will be 10%, but healthcare will be free. No immigration hoops to jump through after granting of initial residency card is issued in just a couple months. Full citizenship is available after 5 years. And the best this is that wine is almost free!
