  1. They deal with just one generation of rats.

1/ Rats can reach sexual maturity at 5 weeks of age

2/ Rats don’t recognize incest, so brothers and sisters and even mothers and sons can mate

    3/ Rats don’t have a breeding season

4/ Females of breeding age come into heat all year round, every 4 to 5 days

5/ A female rat can mate as many as 500 times with various males during a six-hour period of receptivity—a state she experiences about 15 times per year. Thus a pair of rats can produce as many as 2,000 descendants in a year.

Rats will be there in numbers until there is enough food for them and lack of rat's predators.

    btw enjoy your meal....

Is it really so surprising ? Who's going to hire these people, even if they are prepared to work for 2-300 baht a day ? Doesnt justify their crimes but I doubt that any part of the Thai justice system could care less about recidivism : without family to support them when they get out, its difficult to see how the repeat offenders are ever going to be anything else....

Website of thai Department of Correction says they have mission: "Rehabilitating prisoners with efficiency"

  3. Yes, unfortunately, it's always about the money. I think they get 'x' amount of money to do a project properly but after all the powerful people take their cuts they are left with 'y' amount of money--and it's never enough to do a project properly so corners are cut and substandard materials are used. You end up with very badly done projects like Pattaya Beach Road, Thappraya Road, and Jomtien Second Road. I loved the poster's idea to put up signs letting everyone know who did the construction work and maybe they could add a line saying what city official was responsible for PROJECT OVERSIGHT. Two years on, a large stretch of Jomtien Second Road still does not have working street lights--the light poles are there but the lights have never worked.

You don't understand it. They get 'y' amount of money from tax payers but know they need to reach 'x' to be able to do the project properly. So their fellow workers (BiB, jet-ski scammers, even bar girls) must collect more cash for the project (and have never enough).

Last week, my thai neighbour told me that some thousands of inmated were pardoned, and that the place would become more dangerous for all...

    Looks like she was right...

I mentioned on another thread that one of the biggest complaints I hear from the local police is the annual release of tens of thousands of prisoners by the birthday amnesties. All it does is enable career criminals to continue their trade.

  5. First time I visited Thailand we went out with friends in Bangkok and I buy bbq pork from street vendor. He put hot bbq meat sticks right from grill into plastic bag, it seemed somehow disgusting to me. Anyway I ate the meal and then realized there is not any trash bin where I can dispose the plastic bag in about 5 kms area we walked sois of Bkk.

Yes there are some containers for garbage on Pattaya's Beach Rd. now but it seems not many beach visitors know how to use them.

  6. funny how you arm chair detectives come to conclusions, it was a head-on collision, i could walk 50 yards from my condo and see many motor bike taxis, riding on the "wrong " side of the road , against opposing traffic, so how can you judge, or perhaps you were all there and witnessed it, (yep thought so,no you wern't, probably wrapped up in bed with your cup of cocoa, you are all guessing again)

"CCTV in the area confirmed Khun Jirasak was driving at a high rate of speed and appeared to cross over to the opposing lane which is thought to be the main cause of the crash."
