  1. the discussion about word "farang" (ฝรั่ง). Just take it as it is, means "non-thai" more than anything else, no derogatory term, no offense. Period.

If it were a Chinese tourist would it have been 'elite farang'?

On another note, I'm pretty sure Farang refers to an outsider of different origin and by appearance - can, and is used in derogatory terms (not in this case but the editor could have gone for a litle more tact in the selection of this title), since many similar words used in Western society to differentiate between people of different origin or appearance, are associated with severe racism.

and one can call someone "Sir" in derogatory way as well, depends on conditions :-)

back to topic, would be nice if some journalist do follow up the original story as we can see what really happened to the farang there

  2. Just to make things clear....

In an update to the case involving a man being robbed of a gold chain whilst visiting a toilet located at a petrol station on Sukhumvit Road on 26th May police announced on the morning of Thursday, 28th May, that the man in question, Patarachai had given a false statement to the police and has subsequently been arrested. The 27 year old claimed he had been robbed of a 3 baht weight gold chain and stabbed by two fully masked teenagers inside the toilet. But on investigating the incident, police were informed that he had sold the chain to pay off a football gambling debt. On confronting him, he confessed to self inflicting wounds and staging the act to get the sympathy of his parents. He was charged for making a false statement and wasting police time and now awaits legal prosecution.

  3. Please explain to me can Burmese girls work in Thailand as waitress? Do they get work permit?

What is the relevance of this ridiculous post? Two girls fighting for their lives and you bring up the subject of work permits. Pathetic

I do feel sorry about them, I wish them a swift recovery from injuries even I didn't mention that in my previous comment. And I also pray they have friends such you supporting them at this time.
