The Minburi police once told me the speed limit in town is 80 for cars, 60 for motorcycles. A little perplexed by that one
This wasn't even at a traffic stop (I was there teaching English at the police station), so it's not like they were trying to shake me down at the time.

I'm no expert either but have bought quite a few new motors here over the years and of course always expect to take a knock financialy if selling early. I bought a new Fiesta on finance at the beginning of this year however my situation changed soon after plus I realised I missed my truck too much so asked a few local dealers what it would be worth to them.
I was staggered when told 450 k baht, which would have been a loss of 360 k over just 5 months! I'm not sure if this amount of depreciation is a new trend or simply a reflection on Ford or small cars in particular?
You're always gonna take a hit if you sell it to a dealer, they have to make a profit you know.

Thanks for the heads up.
A little disappointed that the Inazuma will be so expensive. I'm looking to buy a bike somewhere in the 250-500 cc range next year, and I like the look of the Inazuma... but if that's the price looks like I'll be going with a Honda or a Kawasaki.
I'm guessing these bikes are being imported from Japan? I had read awhile ago they were planning to start manufacturing some of the bigger bikes here, maybe the prices will drop a bit if/when that happens? I just can't see anybody shelling out for the Inazuma at that price.
The V Strom is 100% imported from Japan (A good point) and BTW its 350,000b plus another 50,000b for the ;Adventurer pack'. Which to me seems cheap for all the extra's.
That is a pretty reasonable price then, for the V-Strom at least. The Inazuma and the Van Van seem way overpriced though. Especially the Inazuma. Who would pay 220,000 for it when the Honda CB500 and the Ninja 300 are both cheaper?

Any word on pricing?
Saw some of the "new" Suzuki line up today at the Buriram Motor Show.
Van Van .... 100 K Baht
Burgman 200 cc ABS ...... 200 K Baht
V-Strom 650 cc ABS ...... 350 K Baht (VERY nicely decked out with Suzuki hard pannier set)
Inazuma GW250 cc ....... 220 K Baht
Thanks for the heads up.

Eh, neither one of them knocks on my door Saturday morning, so I still prefer them to some of the religious groups back home.

Lots of negativity in this thread. Sure, there are some bad teachers here but there are a lot of good ones as well. Age has little to do with it, I've met fantastic teachers of all ages and incompetent slobs of all ages also. Are the majority of English teachers in Thailand qualified to teach in their own country? No, but the good ones work hard, do the best they can, and learn on the job. Let's face it, if we really expect every English teacher in Thailand to have a Master's degree in Education and a teaching credential from their home country there will be a massive shortage of teachers here, as very few people with those qualifications are willing to work for the offered salary.
Anyway, to answer the OP's question, yes, you can easily find a job teaching here. You didn't mention whether you have a degree or not. You would still be able to find a job without one, but it may affect your salary, the quality of the position, and the ease with which you get a non B visa and work permit. Whether or not you end up enjoying the job or not is another question entirely, that really depends on the individual. A lot of the doom and gloom stuff posted above is hyperbole to be sure. Teaching is definitely not easy, though. Big class sizes, communication problems with staff and students alike, and little to no help with discipline are pretty normal. It is tiring, chaotic, and at times frustrating. It can also be very rewarding. It's definitely never boring.

Great, thank you!

And for 65 baht (for envelope and stamp) they will send the documents to your home by EMS. Only takes about 5 days to recieve from date of submitting the documents. They could advertise that more.
It is even possible to submit documents by mail and get them back by mail.
Do you have any more info on submitting the MFA documents by mail? Address to mail to, payments that need to be included? Timeframe? This would be a big help to me as I'm getting married soon but I'd rather not take a day off work to visit the MFA if I can avoid it. Thanks!

Personally I don't take much stock in that kind of stuff, but, hey, any excuse for a barbecue!

Honestly, I'm a bit relieved. I read the topic and expected this to be a ladyboy thread.

Most of these are not "Thai/English," they are specifically BAR GIRL English.
Maybe some of them, but there are quite a few on here that my students and my male Thai friends do on a regular basis. Especially the "are you spicy," or "are you boring" thing.

A friend of mine had a bumper sticker, which said,
"GODISNOWHERE"
Sort of up to the individual to interpret it. A few people got mad at him.

Apparently the boats on the Wat Sribunruang to Minburi route are no longer running. I sometimes take the boat to work in the morning but when I went today they told me there was no boat. There was also a sign posted saying the boat was not in service. I don't know if this is permanent or only temporary, I didn't enquire much further as I had to hurry up and get to work.
The regular Saen Saeb boat service going west from Wat Sri into the city is still going, this is only the service going East to Minburi.

Looks like they're taking reservations on the Raider. 65,900 baht.

Pigs in blankets are always wrapped in bacon....not dough. Sounds like you mean toad in the hole which is sausage in a yorkshire pudding.
Back to bacon.... plenty in macro and foodland recently. So fine for consumer shopping but possibly an issue with restaurant wholesale suppliers.
Wikipedia shows Pigs in a blanket like this. NO bacon.
I'm from California, and that's what I would call pigs in a blanket.
This has me thinking, though... Maybe somebody could wrap a sausage in bacon, and then wrap THAT in dough. A double-blanketed pig for everybody! While we're at it let's put the whole thing on top of a slice of ham and a chocolate chip pancake, add some syrup and powdered sugar...
Then people of all nationalities could enjoy it together (until our arteries explode, that is).

Personally, I'd be pretty happy if they started putting seat belts in minivans...
A lot of people wouldn't wear them, but it would be nice to have the option.

Just remember that the correct place to park is in the middle of the left lane, it is legal to drive a tank on public roads, and that it is always illegal to make a U-turn at an intersection. Memorize those and you'll do fine.

When they first started running the boats from Wat Sribunruang to Minburi they were pretty careful about driving slowly to appease the local residents. It seems like as time has passed they've started running them a lot faster though. Many of the houses along the canal have big banners saying "please drive slowly" etc. hanging from them (in Thai obviously). Hopefully some kind of compromise can be reached, as the boats are a very useful service.

If the price point is right, I'd definitely consider getting one. Any mention of a naked model?

Sounds great! I've been thinking about making a trip out that way at some point. How are the beaches? What's the language situation like, is it easy to find English speakers?
