  1. Want rent motorbike in Khon Kaen city. Only find 1 place near expats bars, and they wanted 6.000 for 1 month. Where have 100-125 cc motorbike for rent for 3-4000?

On two occasions now I have rented a motorbike from Duan's Restaurant

on Am mart Road near the corner of Na Muang road in the city.

It is a german restaurant and they were very helpful and friendly.

I rented an automatic Honda Click both times with no problems.

Sorry I cannot remember prices but a quick call will put you in the picture.

I think they can also drop the bike off at your hotel.

    Ph: 043 246 169 Mob: 08 1943 8528.

    good luck

  2. I understand there is a bus service between Khon Kaen and Pattaya. Does anyone know how often they run, what sort of times they leave Khon Kaen, how long they take and how much they cost?

    Thanks in advance

Buses from Khon Kaen to Pattaya run daily from the bus station on Klang Muang Road

in central Khon Kaen. Only the ‘407’ bus company goes directly to Pattaya.

I have done this trip several times, from memory there are approx 10 departures per day.

First bus leaves at 09:30 and the last one at 22:00 hours. Remember though that these buses originate from Nong Khai so they could be running a bit late depending on time of day and traffic of course. It is hard to say exactly how long it takes because until the bus sets off, you don’t know where it will stop ?, how many stops ?, where they are picking up ? dropping off ? it can be anything from 7.5 to 11 hours depending on all of the above, plus traffic and also if any of your fellow travelers are taking their motor bikes with them. It will also stop at Korat for a twenty to thirty minute meal break. At Pattaya

it will drop you off on Sukhumvit at Pattaya Klang before continuing to Rayong. I think the fare is 383 baht

for the normal bus and 583 for the VIP bus. The night time departures tend to be quicker and will have less kids and crying babies.

TIP: when you get off at Korat for the meal break make sure you make a mental note of your bus number and the gate number. Unless you can read Thai ? you will be wandering around a sea of similar looking buses trying to remember which one was yours !!!

  3. Hi,

I have been looking around for a school in N. Ratchasima where a foreigner can learn the Thai language.

The teacher(s) would be all Thai with an acceptable knowledge of English.

The course will be at least 1 year at a ratio of 1 hour a day, but will be finally planned if there is enough demand.

For foreigners who are planning to get a the Thai residence, this is a one of a lifetime opportunity to get skilled in the Thai language. Writing, speaking and reading.

In order to get this project of the ground, I will need to present to the school the names of foreigners who are interested in following this course.

Therefore, I would like to ask the foreigners and ThaiVisa members who are willing to enroll in this project to write their name and post it in this thread or PM me personally.

    Regards

Hi, I could be interested but in my opinion (humble) 1 hour a day for a year is hardly sufficient to obtain a level of proficiency required for the PR Visa. I'm not trying to hose down your idea, it has merit but I,m sure there would be more of a response if people knew in advance what they are commiting to, ie: how much ? I am trying to do the same thing, that is; get to such a level that I can apply for a PR Visa. The hardest part is finding people at the same level as you ! I have previously looked/studied at Universitys and schools as far away as Udon and Khon Kaen. Uni @ K.K. conducts such a course but with accomodation it is over 50,000 baht per month ! AUA in Udon does 5 week courses in reading and writing Thai, but only at Basic and Lower Intermediate levels. At your Korat school what minimum size class do they require to start the course ? four pax ? Please keep us informed of any progress.

  4. there is a resort that is ok ,clean with air-con near the hospital .

  5. anybody home ? does anybody know if there are places to stay in Wanon Niwat ?

    any info would be appreciated.

    Hi afalang

Can you please tell me where Wanon Niwat is :o ,then maybe I can help you

    Greetings

    Mueanfun :D

Sawasdee khap....Wanon Niwat is in the province of Sakhon Nakhon, situated on highway 222. It is about 90 klms to the city of Sakhon Nakhon and 160 klms from Udon Thani. I was in Sakhon Nakhon this year for Songkran, it was really pleasant.

  6. Any recommendations?

I would recommend " Nok Visa & Travel. " Myself and friends have used

them for the last 3 years now. Passport renewals, visa's, travel arrangements

to Phuket, Koh Chang, Vietnam, Cambodia etc have all been arranged with a

minimum of fuss. I have always found them fast friendly and efficient and

reasonably priced. You can contact Nok on 08 9252 5003. Central Pattaya

    in Soi Arunotai near Carrefour.

  7. Has anbody any recommendations on Thai Language courses in Issan ?

I have previously done a couple of courses in Udon with AUA.

Does any body know of other couses in Khon Kaen or other towns

in the north east ? Appreciate any info or advice, thanks.

  8. I visited the home and condo expo which is now on at Carrefour.

The stand operated by the Thai company Ratanakorn really interested

me... especially the last line on their price list.

" Foreigners must pay 200,000 baht more to transfer into their name "

how can they get away with this blatent racial discrimination ?

The girls on the stand at carrefour could not explain it.

I have sent an email to the company at Ratanakorn

    so far no response.

  9. My 17-year old twin boys will be working and going to school in Udon Thani. I want to rent a furnished room for them. Can anyone recommend any apartment buildings / mansions?

    Thanks for your help.

Not sure if this response is a bit late or not ?

I went to Udon to study thai at AUA in Udon.

I stayed at Top Mansion which is just 5 minutes walk

to the big Charoensri Shopping Complex. It was

about 8,700 baht for a month, which included everything.

Daily maid service, electricity, cable Tv, hot water etc.

Room was very nice and always clean, staff friendly

and helpful. I would recommend this place if it fits your

budget ? There were cheaper places, but for the location

and everything else I thought it was good value...ie less than 300

    baht per night.

  10. Have also stayed at Chaipat as well as the 2 you mentioned.

The breakfast shop across the road from Roma is my favourite, little bread rolls and eggs served in the pans are great.

is that little restaurant called Em Et ? Em Ot ? something like that. Its the only place I've seen that does the eggs in the pan like that - aloy mak maak ;o)

  11. The Roma Hotel is right in the centre of Khon Kaen and has rooms from just 280 baht. They have a whole range of rooms from cheap and cheerful to rather expensive. They have a good coffee shop and live music on the weekends. Roma also has a great thai breakfast restaurant directly across the road.... and its also handy to the bus station. If you want to spend a bit more.... for about 850 baht you can get a really nice room at the Khon Kaen Hotel, which is just around the corner from the Roma. I have stayed in both places a few times now and have never been disappointed.

  12. Anyone know where I can buy a good scooter here in Bangkok? Second hand is fine, but reliable none the less.

    Thanks

    Cassie

    try Thailand Scooters

scroll down the left hand side and click on the Vespa and Lambretta Classifieds link.

Then the fun part..... as it is mostly in Thai click through each ad till you find what you are looking for. Other than that, I think they are having a Scooter display at rear of the Bangkok Motor Show again. Usually about 300 scooters on display and quite a few for sale.

If you want a fully restored job ready to ride ? a guy in Rayong has 2 nice vespas for sale. He has

photos of them on that Thai Scooter web site.

    Good luck

  13. There are 2 nice looking Vespas for sale in the Rayong area. Falang owner called Barry has 2 for sale, both fully restored, new paint, recon engines etc and they are taxed and insured and have books. They also have quite a bit of chrome on them too. They look the 'goods' but after all they are only Vespas so they dont have the sexy look of a Lambretta !!!

There is a big scooter shop in Bangkok at Ratchathewi. Its called Thai Vespa Shop, they have a big spare parts warehouse as they sell a lot over the net. There are always at least 50 scooters outside and 6 more inside the tiny little workshop. They are all friendly and will always offer drinks or coffee if your shopping for parts. Limited lambretta stuff but endless supply of vespa gear.

Finally... this may be of interest.....there is a big scooter show on in Pattaya this month, not sure of the date, but there are bound to be several for sale on the day. Other than that try www.thaiscooter.com

scroll down and click on the Vespa & Lambretta Classifieds page. then just browse through the classifieds..... thats how i found my SeXy Lammy ;o)

    good luck !

  14. Anyone any idea how much a 2 or 3 story shop would set me back?  I would prefer a double shop front.  My missus wants to set up a restaurant or possibly a beauty salon.  My preference would be towards where the nightclubs are but just checking out local expat's opinions.  Her dad's a builder so he can do any refurbishments etc.

    Thanks

Not sure about shop-house prices..... BUT

if house and condo prices are anything to go by,

then a shop-house in Khon Kaen should be cheap as well !

contact Richard at Khon Kaen Real Estate,

he will be able to tell you about prices etc.

    Good luck

  15. An ashes test cricketer has been revealed by the British tabloid press to have had a one night stand with a 20 yo model. The model sold her story, with intimate details, to a London tabloid. It happenned at a Leeds hotel 3 weeks ago after the player celebrated a ODI win with teammates. His partner of three years has reportedly left him and fled overseas. Of particularly shocking importance, it was revealed that Shane Warne had nothing to do with this latest  sex scandal.

The cricketer involved was English fast bowler Simon Jones.

yeah but Warney set her up for him on his mobile :o

  16. Merseyside Police have confirmed today that a Scouser WAS arrested last night whilst attempting to enter Anfield via the Kop. The man was spotted acting suspiciously near the home end and was quickly confronted by Police who searched him and found he was in possession of an offensive accent. "Its true" A Merseyside police spokesman said "A Scouser was stopped just yards from Anfield stadium. However we would urge Liverpool fans to remain calm. This was an isolated incident and the chances of a Scouser actually making it inside the Stadium are extremely slim." Liverpool Football Club refused to comment but are believed to be highly embarrassed by the incident
