This is the route many foreigners take when doing visa runs between Chiang Mai and Vientianne in Laos. I've done it more times than I care to remember. There are only two companies working that route - SukSa Tour and Chakrapong Tour. Over the years the quality of their buses has declined - they're using the same ones from at least 7-8 years ago.

Surely there are other companies going to other places along the way, KK or Udon for example, then go with them and get another bus from there to Nong Khai.

For 25 THB you are getting a small portion of the worst possible quality white rice, vegetables sprayed with chemicals, re-used palm oil, and the cuts of meat that would be used for dog food in the West. 10 years ago you could get decent food for 25 THB. Ever looked in a market at the cost of pork, beef, rice, etc.? Probably not if you eat out 3 X per day!

I once bought 16 spoons from 7-11 for 14 baht each and they gave me 16 yoghurts for free. You wouldn't get a deal like that in the brainwashed western world! Give me a Leo glazed lawless Thai lifestyle over that any day.

Seriously. 16 free yoghurts! And if I want to get more yoghurt I just take the empty pots to 7-11 and scoop the yoghurt in the chiller counter into the pot I brought with me. Same money and the environment as I don't have to buy any more damn spoons or yoghurt pots.

I once got to give my yogurt to a 7-11 clerk for free.

Sadly you have no idea how 'business' is conducted here on Phuket Island. Money talks and is spread around to cover all the various branches of officialdom. Government and Police have no interest to rein-in the Tuk Tuk, Taxi, and Jet Ski mafias.

The result is the reason that I never go to, and always advise tourists not to go to, Phuket.
