  3. Site still down. Some have said that it is because of hacking concerns. If so, the Thai gov should maybe look to some of the giant IT companies in India like WiPro or Infosys for assistance with this site. They have offices in BKK.

For many reasons, I feel lucky to live in Chiang Mai, but life is too easy now I guess. So I am too lazy to go to immigration to do my 90 rpt   ; o)

Other people can’t change me, but people that are going through similar problems can help and understand, the way no doctor, guru or monk can. I lived in India for a year and visited the Buddha Stupa (Tibetan Buddhism) in Nepal for a few months. I understand there are many sources of help. But I myself don’t have the need to say to someone else, your way is no good, listen to my answer for you.

I really am happy most of the time, and I now try to avoid anything that will bring me down. To be honest, I seldom go on blog sites because there are so many unhappy people that spread their unhappiness, negativity or know-it-all opinion, I guess maybe they believe what they say is profound or an important thing that must be said. Sorry, I don’t mean to sound negative also.

Thank you to anyone who commented, who was interested in what I had posted.
    Kind regards,

Depression and Anxiety is a terrible thing..,

i I did suffer many many moons ago, but learned that , the only real help out there was MYSELF.....

hard as it was, I did manage, but that's ME...

    we are all different...

best of of luck and hope things work out.

That sounds great. I tried to find it on a map and on your profile. Could you send a Google map, maybe in a message? I think url's are usually removed.

Well you've already found an anxiety and depression group....I would be careful as you likely needed a statement from an MD that you were in good mental condition to get a visa...mental health issues are taboo here.  Dr. Panu is a Psychiatrist, who treats these conditions.  Pick up some meds and maybe ask him.

Interesting point "good mental condition to get a visa" to get a visa. If anyone has had to get a statement from a MD regarding mental health, please chime in.

I'm sorry to hear about your Dad. Am wondering though why you ask " is CM that bad these days"? What makes you ask that. The OP doesn't mention about it being the problem. On the contrary, he says he has a happy life there. I think it's safe to say the problems the OP describes are an"inside job". As a recovered Alcoholic  myself, I know for sure the problem was not with the Alcohol (it can be a very good relaxent) the problem was within me.

Yep, alcoholism is often just a symptom of deeper problems.

Chiang Mai really is wonderful, I guess the problem is I brought me with me. But lets not change this to a discussion about Chiang Mai :-)

I feel for you; I suffer from similar issues.  I am currently back in California.  My father is in hospice; he is dying.  I'll be back in Chiang Mai, Thailand in 2017.  Is Chiang Mai really that bad nowadays?  I've been traveling in South America the last two years; mostly Ecuador and Colombia.  I had to recover from Dengue Fever.  Take care..  All the best...

Thanks for your reply and sorry about your father, hope he is not suffering too much. When you are back in Chiang Mai, maybe our group will be started, if you have similar issues :)

  10. Hello,
I have had trouble with major depression and self destructive behavior ever since I was a kid. Also trouble with drugs and alcoholism, but I don’t have a problem with that now. Help from support groups saved my life in the US when I was young. I am now 56 years old and live a simple and usually happy life in Chiang Mai, but depression still sneaks up and blindsides me, it seems to happen every week or two.

There doesn’t seem to be something like an Anxiety and Depression Support Group in Chiang Mai. If anyone knows of a group like this, that already exists, please let me know.

My initial thoughts on how to get a group like this started...
    1. Find some friendly people that might feel that a group like this could bring more happiness or stability in their life.
    2. Find a quiet place to meet. Maybe a room in a restaurant for coffee or lunch would be good.
    3. Meet and talk about stuff that is causing stress, anxiety or depression. Also talk about what is helpful to you, and might be helpful to others. And remember, laughter is the best medicine. (friendly support, not advice). If you are in a crisis, seek professional help. Suan Prung Psychiatric Hospital, might be helpful.
    4. Maybe plan some other activities. Physical activities like bike rides help me out of dark days, but I know bicycles are not for everyone.

If this kind of group interests you, please let me know.

    Merry Christmas,
    Thomas

    Hello,

I have to do my Thai Visa retirement extension this coming week in Chiang Mai.  Last year they only served the first 20 people in line so you had to arrive around 6am.  I heard they are serving more now.  So I guess my question is, does anyone have recent experience of what time in the morning to get there, to be served?

My neighbor told me about the G4T Visa service, upstairs above the Immigration at Promenada.  For 3000 bhat they made the whole retirement extension process easy for me. No getting up at 5am to wait in line all day, they also did the application and copies of visa, etc. Well worth the price!

  13. Next week I have to travel from Chiang Mai to Vientiane. I went to the bus station and asked all the bus companies if any of them have daytime busses. One had a bus that leaves in the afternoon and arrives in the middle of the night, the others said we no have.

Please - does anyone know of a bus I can take on my way back form Vientiane (friendship bridge) to Chiang Mai, that travels in the daytime?

Maybe this sounds stupid but fly to Udon, or Vientiane or even KKhen and get your visa KKhen and bus to Vientiane.

I am going to fly to Udon and was going to take a bus back to Chiang Mai. I guess maybe my question sounded stupid, but my point was, I believe daytime busses would be much safer than nighttime busses.

ps: I believe living in Thailand is great. I love it here. And I understand that safety and the infrastructure in western countries is not here. Sad to hear about the fatalities. Someone wrote the Thai people don't care, I don't believe that. This is the worst bus accident I heard about, I hope it is a wake up call to the bus companies and drivers.

  15. Last week I attended a couple hours of watercolor painting lessons at the Watercolour de Lanna Gallery in Chiang Mai. I have a lot of free time in my day, probably the same as many other expats. This has been great, I have done five small weird paintings.

The teacher is very experienced and a really cool guy. The Watercolour de Lanna Gallery is close the the Kad San Kaew shopping center on Huay Kaew Rd. You can do a web search to find their website that has a map. Or contact me for info.
