Try these links from the Thai embassy in Ottawa, Canada....the second link gets into the specifics of obtaining the permit to bring Class 2 narcotics for prescription/personal use NTE 30 days:

    http://www.thaiembassy.ca/en/visiting-thailand/bringing-medication-thailand

    http://narcotic.fda.moph.go.th/faq/upload/guidance%20for%20travelers%20version%204.doc._e1a4.pdf

As with many things in Thailand, I wouldn't be surprised if different Thai embassies/consulates located in different countries had conflicting guidance.

That is absolutely perfect. Thank you very much for your help it is very much appreciated. Thank you TV

  2. My parents are coming over to visit me and my family for the first time.

They are late 60's early 70's and think that no one their age has ever travelled outside the UK before.

Anyway the question is that my father takes many tablets and medicines which include; liquid morphine & tablet morphine 10mg.

My mum is researching and coming back with information that these are banned substances in Thailand and she will need 'an import license for these drugs'.

Does anyone have any experience of bringing morphine into Thailand and how they approached it? Did have a look on the internet, but didn't find out much information. Any help much appreciated.

    Thanks

    Duncan

  3. I'm fancying a little bit of cheap racing at Chiang Rai Mae Lao Circuit. I know jeans are ok for practise days and normal track days, but for actual race days they do require 1 piece suits.

Anyone know a shop in Chiang Mai that sells reasonably priced leathers and boots, don't think I can stretch to Dianese or Alpinestars stuff, so places like Pekky Pro Bike shop are out of the question.

    Any help greatly appreciated ^_^

    Thanks.

  4. I got nabbed there a few Saturdays ago (lunchtime). Had lid and license etc... As soon as he saw the Thai license and that we'd conversed in Thai (well I say conversed that's probably a slight exaggeration), he offered me 200bt now option (for doing the 'no straight on' which I happily took him up on : )

Sent from my iPhone using Thaivisa Connect Thailand

  5. Get the Raider for yourself and get her a Scoopy or something to keep her quiet smile.png

Joking about the MSX aside I actually considered getting one awhile back. Seemed like a really fun bike. I needed to be able to seat 2 people though so that ruled it out for me

I already bought her a new Scoopy last year biggrin.png and a car for myself whistling.gif but with the traffic around the city now I'm using her Scoopy daily instead of the car which is why I need the 2nd bike BUT the Raider is just an absolute 'no' well unless I want to be sent to Coventry for God knows how long...

I've been hankering after the Raider before they reintroduced it a few months ago. Power to weight compared to the CBR which weighs in at over 20kg more with roughly the same engine makes me think the Raider is an absolute winner!!!!

  6. CBR 150 much better ride imho but not to your thai girlfriends taste for sure it's not cool.

When you say a better ride, do you mean, handling? or just generally it's an all round better bike?.

I've tried to read up on the engines and the CBR150 engine definitely seems a better prospect than the MSX unit.

The girlfriend likes the CBR but is worried I'll receive too much attention from girl's on it compared to the MSX cheesy.gif

  7. Ok, before I get started on this one let me get in there first, I'm in the market for one of the above bikes... yes!... what some of you (whom are probably to wrong side of 80kg perhaps) will refer to as ladies bikes... just before we get the usual trolling like;

'...why would anyone want such a girlie machine...' and

'...this post belongs in the woman's section blah blah blah...'

Anyway, I'm looking for something small, that you can whizz around town on and puts a smile on your face. The Suzuki Raider 150 has now been ruled out by the girlfriend as she refers to it as an 'old fashioned, low so Thai man's village bike' (her words not mine), I love them, and that would have been my first choice but ho hum anything for a quiet life. She's said 'no' to Suzuki but 'yes' to Honda (well she is Thai after all), she prefers the MSX but I'm thinking the CBR might just have that extra layer in so much you could have the crack say at the Chiang Rai circuit or on the twisties blasting up to Doi Suthep (well perhaps not so much blasting, probably more gently wafting along).

The question is does anyone actually own either of these machines and what are their thoughts, mainly about just having a blast and putting a smile on your face. I'm a bit too tight to rent them both for a day and find out for myself, so thought I'd ask and see if there are any younger hearted riders in Chiang Mai?

    Cheers.

  8. Ok, as a relative newbie I'm still trying to work out why every so often you get policemen dotted about 1 km apart down roads for km's???

At first I thought it was some covert operation to bust some big time drug lord but is it more a case that there is an important politician riding through and it's to show respect OR is it just some high ranking police officer and these are his minions that are on the payroll???

Bored and just interested to know. Answers on a postcard.

  9. I went the other day to try and get some Christmas presents to bring back to UK for family... what an absolute waste of a place... never have I been so disappointed in such an overhyped shopping extravaganza.

Seriously. Don't bother. I cannot stress to you enough. It is a shop with barely enough stock to fill it at high tourist prices.

If you're after local attire and handicrafts you'd be better braving the crowds of Walking Street which is what I ended up doing or another similar market.

  10. Okay, so quick question just so either myself or passport control don't make a mistake.

    1. I have 1 year visa (expires Nov. 2014).

    2. I have a single re-entry permit (on a different page).

When I go back to UK for Christmas in December and return to CM in January what do passport control stamp?

Just so I know to keep an eye out as I don't want them stamping the wrong thing and then my visa is null and void.

    Thanks in advance.wai.gif

  11. There is a one of the little shops on the top floor of Kad Suan Kaew that unlocked mine. Long story short when I came to Thailand I was still in contract with my iPhone 4s and when I took it to be unlocked, they sent it to another shop and they had it about 3-4 weeks, the phone was blacklisted (naughty I know) in the UK because my original contract was about 18 months into its 24 months plan. It took a while but they did it and now have a normal contract plan with AIS and never have any problems.

If you take the escalators to the top floor of KSK you double back on yourself and there are a few little kiosks on the left hand side, it cost me 3,000bt but they guaranteed they could do it, and do it they did. The kiosk is run by a couple.

  12. Thank you very much for giving me the heads up on this, totally restored my faith in TV! That there in fact good people on here prepared to give, no nonsense, straight forward assistance to other people who live in Chiang Mai rather than the usual trolling BS that seems to scatter a high percentage of posts.

    Thank you.

  13. Always feel sorry for these helpless sods, been there a dozen times myself (the last time waking up in hospital 555), when your mates have disappeared and left you to find your own way home, but I never used to mind, you can end up in some right bizarre situations (some good, some bad!!!).

But, even where I came from (a small market town back in the UK), if you were drunk and alone after 1.00am the chances of a gang of hoodies or the like jumping you is exponentially more likely to happen.

  14. All depends on travel dates .If close to Xmas /New Year all bets are off .

Much more expensive!.....35,000 Baht over the Christmas period.

    https://www.moxtravel.com/availabilityResult.aspx

YOU ARE RIGHT ON THIS AT LEAST .Ha Ha you are not as much a mug as i thought lol .Tryied BKK to London ,out 20 th Dec and back 3 rd Jan .with Mox ,they gave me the cheapest with SriLanca Air of B29,000 return .You stay over night in Colombo on the way ,payed by them .

Awesome... Columbia here I come... thanks for the lead!

  15. After my first year I must return for as shorter holiday as possible to check in on the folks, friends etc...

But what I am seeing is disproportionately high flight prices from BKK to UK. I always used to fly from Birmingham or Manchester with Emirates to Bangkok (not because I'm posh but simply they were one of the most cost effective operators to get me here), but looking to do the thing in reverse and it seems that they are asking 55,000 baht up??? HELP I was thinking it would be more around the 30,000 baht mark.

I have one lead which is Jet Airways that I am exploring but does anyone have any tips for the cheapest way to get back to either B'ham or M'chester?

    Thanks.

  16. After a very short first year of being in Chiang Mai most weekends have become swallowed up by taking the GF and daughter to to Robinson's (Lobinson's or Airport Plaaza - however you wish to pronounce it).

Now out of the last three times we always seem to get there at 'peak-time' 2.00-4.00 pm which resulted in the drudgery of slowly tailing around the car park on the look out for a space but as I say the last few times after spotting 'smart thinking' locals, if you drive up to the turning circle at the main entrance (to the rear where the water fountain is, McDonalds & KFC) I have always found 1 or 2 spaces there (without fail).

Just thought it might be worth mentioning ^_^
