  1. I am confused. The story says he was sentenced in 2008 for 5 years and due to be released in November. Yet in the photo he is wearing a chain attached to his legs.. my understanding is that the chains are only worn in the first month or two of ones sentence..

Can anyone confirm or deny this?

Sprinters will use iron anklets-weights to strengthen their legs at all times. Perhaps this guy is an athlete or a potential "runner".

  2. I was taking a sick THAI baby back from Bangkok Christian, and got in a taxi near Patpong. The journey was about 1-2 km North.

The taxi driver refused, I got out to take a pic of number plate, and he dumped the baby on the sidewalk. It was stall setting up time and even the locals shouted at him.

I was hyperventilating ( a novel and very distressing experience). as I carried the baby to the Police Box on Surawong, the policeman was apparently sympathetic and made a few phone calls. I had all the details of the taxi. I was also given a 'phone number.

    The outcome, Nothing !.

  3. quote "im a fully qualified electrician"

There is always work for those who can do stuff which requires training, proven experience and possibly certification.

Many of the able bodied unemployed are generally unemployable nowadays, unless as an extension to a machine.

  4. "the machines cost around 150.000 Euro and may run another couple of years (unfortunately the Siemens electronic also start to fail after a few years.

The machines were built 1989-2000 maybe even a bit later."

A local retrofitter (vey smart guys) can replace dated controls with Heidenhein, and as programmers here only tickle the capabilities of their CNC equipment, your hardware can last many more years .

  5. If you want to lose a lot of control of your programs/files/etc change to Win7.

It is like an overprotective neurotic parent.

I have 3 HD and have tried Win7 over a year, believing anything new must be better..All back to XP now.

Google is full of despairing users and I guess they are not all half-wits.

Its very simple to turn this down or even off, its trying to protect the system from idiots, all these features can be turned off or changed.

Open up Control Panel, and type in “UAC” into the search box. You’ll see a link for “Turn User Account Control (UAC) on or off”:

How simple is that, I Suggest that you send you computer back and use an abacus.

Hi So grateful for your help, perhaps you could help me further

I am running "Python" as an assist to breaking http://users.telenet.be/d.rijmenants/en/challenge.htm

Do you think Win7 will be better..

For the abacus, I wrote a program in C++ to simulate one, i.e. enter the calculation and display the movement of the beads to the final answer. It had some difficulty with imaginary numbers (i).-1(^0.5)

Could you kindly debug for me.?

  6. mmmmmm.....I haven't been back to UK (West London) for 40 years, I still think in LSD, Libra solidii and denari.

A 'pint' was a shilling as I recall..perhaps I should think twice, or three times before making a visit.

Not a whine, just an observation, always feel that I'm "treading on eggshells" here

  7. I agree with those who advise a lawyer, also it would be good if you had a trusted friend of family member or 2 to put as trustee, to make sure that the funds are 1) being spent properly & 2) to be able to release additional funds relating to education or any other specific example you lay out thoughout the years.

Financial arrangements are extremely simple, and have been thought out at length.

A very trusted friend, professional engineer, US Citizen with homes in CA and Thailand, fluent in Thai will be the beneficiary of all my assets, (bank accounts and property). He will pay by bank transfer all legitimate fees, in the first instance billed to him by the school.

The family will only be aware that the fees are paid with no way of knowing any details. They will be unable to solicit any money.

Clearly there will be other issues he will need to deal with and under my written guidelines will use his intelligence to see that my hopes for the child's education and welfare are met until he is an adult.

There are others who know about this situation who will be holding watching briefs.

The pinned information on creating wills is invaluable in creating valid wills and I have followed them to the letter as applicable in this case.

If all my perceptions and experience of people are totally wrong and the funds are misused/ wasted, at least I will die in the strong belief that everything will work out.

What makes me so anxious to do this is among other things a simple exchange while the child (Boy) and I were on the train.

Boy "John why you hold shorts Boy"

Me "So you not out window and bompy on the tracks"

    Boy "Boy no fall"

Me "Boy fall out tam arai"?

Boy "John jumpy and get him, bai rongpaiabaan get sticky, Boy OK"

    Total Faith.

  8. " From what I can make out in the UK nowadays they are not much better!! Also, Americans probably don't match up to the Thai's in some respects!!! Thicko's, all of them."

Not all of them for sure, count the Nobel Prizes, but Jay Leno had a series that showed the depths of ignorance of many adults.

  9. Originally child's chipped front tooth was sort of filled in with a white sort of epoxy I guess. It cost about Baht2000 as I remember, it was replaced twice as it broke off, I was warned,...

Half of one of my side teeth broke off when I bit on a very crusty slice of fresh farmhouse bread. My dentist in Europe rebuilt it with composite and warned me that it may not last. That was over 10 years ago.

Composite should be extremely strong if it's done properly. I suspect that when it fails it often does so because the area hasn't been properly cleaned and dried before applying the composite.

For sure the preparation of the surfaces is paramount, then subsequently it would be desirable to favour the repaired tooth when biting whatever.
However an infant will tear at wrapping with the teeth and not consider any activities that might cause a failure. As an FEA practioner I could prepare a model on bondings/stresses/forces/shear planes et al but ....
In one case I fell out of a chair and rolled on his head pushing his mouth against the tiles.
As for leaving decay, I preferred to have Baht80,000 treatment for the child (4 teeth under anasthesia), was quoted Baht130,000 at one place.
  10. I have made an arrangement (payments) for a Thai child's education, at a private school. until he is of University Age.
    Incidental expenses are covered.

I am reasonably confident he can qualify, even though he is only four years old next month, his comprehension , curiousity and imagination astonish me daily..

Does anyone have any thoughts.ideas, experience on such a possibility.?

Anything I do keeps access to funds/assetts out of reach of his family.

I'm very unlikely to be alive when he is of age.

  11. I have been around the block on this one. Originally child's chipped front tooth was sort of filled in with a white sort of epoxy I guess. It cost about Baht2000 as I remember, it was replaced twice as it broke off, I was warned,

    .

Next visit I mentioned to the dentist it was becoming tedious to cotinually be getting replacements, not to mention the distress of the child.

She suggested the metal "covers", thinking they might be silver I was concerned I was looking at Baht10,000, bill was Baht800 stainless steel..

Mother's reaction "mai suai", not a word of thanks.

This was at Phyathai near Phyathai BTS, but I believe same near Pattaya.

Really to answer your question, NO white "covers"
