Looks like the Kra Buri river is the natural political boundary between T'land and Burma. And both the river and Burma end at Ranong. Probably few people in that part of Burma.
And i fully agree that the Chinese Emperor (Mr. Xi) will have a good sit-down with current T'land PM (The GENERAL) regarding bank accounts and a nice new East-West canal across T'land right about at Ranong. Why involve two countries when one will do?

Cannot shops survive without WiFi? Frankly i find the mobile devices generally annoying, esp the Samsung which sends out the horrid bird whistle announcing an email. God, i'd love to shove the device right into their teeth.

All the info i have read points to Monday 0630 Thai time kick-oof. Might end by 0900, might not.

AoA, i checked out Mon Jam (google) and it looks hard to find, back roads and all. Any signs along the way?
Looks like i could squeeze in the Botanic Garden and Mon Long in one day.

You could rig up some small pressurized tank, fit tubes and nozzles on either side of the bike, along the rear wheel and an 'on' button near your hand. Use ammonia/water solution. But also best to identify yourself to the dogs, use a small noise maker to tell the dogs you are coming, then when they approach give them a blast of highly irritating spray. Use the noise maker again to tell them you have 'spoken'. They will learn damn fast who you are.
Also effective would be a 'cattle prod', which is a fat cane like stick loaded with many 'D' cell batteries and 2 discharge prongs on the end. When poked into the reluctant cow the electrical shock stimulates her to get up and move. A prodded dog would also move away fast but you would need to get close to the dog, which might not be so good if you miss with the prod.

You may be correct Mickeem that the chinese are 'behind the screens' but the local gov't is most likely in cahoots as the permits for such screens depends on the gov't officials. Why no tall buildings within the CM moat area? Right, some local 'law' or permit process forbids such buildings. A very good idea, IMO. So also the gov't could forbid the screens, even if on private property. But the gov't guys are making good money off the screens, via corrupt payments, so the screens proliferate coz the cost is low and visualization is high. Are the screens effective? Is email spam effective?
At this time i doubt any restrictions apply to the screens and the gov't is too lax to impose any. The gov't here, as in many places, is not elected so does not speak for the people but rather speaks for the monied class.

The first time i thought, 'oops a one-off'. Now i've seen small dogs perched up on the restaurant table twice, both being cuddled and pampered by the young women dog owners. The restaurant staff not seeming to care.
This is probably a new trend as small dogs act as surrogate babies for these single women; that's my spin. Regardless of why, the truth is dogs on dining tables is dirty, very dirty and any shop owner who permits such is an a**.
To me, dogs on tables is a disgusting display of ignorance, stupidity, vanity and poor public hygiene. The fact that shop owners permit this begs the question 'why'. Are there not laws, or cultural norms, which speak to this issue?
Dogs in restaurants should be forbidden, except for the blind.

When the rooster sings, it's time to get up and going. Why dream your life away?

You know PHP87, i feel that you are incredibly defensive on the 'gridiron' subject. Why not let other folks, the ill-informed if you will, have and express their opinions without your twisting your knickers? It (pro american football) is only a game played by an extremely small number of people, world-wide, and those only of an age under 30, generally. Sure those guys make bags of cash but many are very poorly educated and rather ignorant of the world outside the stadium, gym room or pimped-out Hummer.
Bags of cash coz the typical USA viewer has too much time and money on his hands and loves vicarious violence.
So, enjoy the game and support local venues by showing yourself at 6 am at one of the mentioned CM establishments. And plz wear a badge with ID # PHP87.

Totally agree. Those things are truly a menace to society and should be banned, as are the camera-drones in T'land. But hey, there is money changing hands and the power people are getting the cash, so expect no change.

Must say i like that: 'stay off all the media and your life will be better'. IMO, very true as our life is led by where our mind leads it.

Lost lots to body fat since coming to LOS. Hard to believe but true. Am walking, riding the bicycle miles per day and pounding out golf balls for hours, 3x per week. And most importantly, now onto only 3 bottles of beer per week.
Therefore many pants are too big and some too heavy for this climate. I'm from Saskatoon. Back home i could find many bins around town for discarded clothing but have seen none here. Help, please. I don't want to dump them in the rubbish as still have some use to someone, maybe.

How's the car parking at the Empress? Hmm. At 6am that would be 'park in the dark'.

Public transport via 'song thiow' can get you to Gymkhanna, Stardome, Lanna and Green Valley. Beyond that, if you will be here more than a few days, rent a car cheap and drive to where you like. Taxis and tuk-tuks will be hugely expensive. Sure, rent a motorbike and sling the clubs over your back, if u like to live risky.

Many shops around the Warowat market streets selling every manner of such goods. Looked yesterday at zippers, must have seen 11,258 different kinds, sizes, colors etc and also saw thousands of balls of yarn. Surely there will be hooks and needles too.

Chinese not good at assimilating either. Many 'china towns' in USA, other places. Chinese restaurants, signs, hanging ducks, dry rice noodles, etc. but no chinese i have ever heard of tries to enforce his way of thinking onto others via violence. Whatever the muslims rant on about their peaceful religion, what i read and see suggests a high degree of muslim intolerance in many places.
Many islamic governments, Indonesia, Malaysia, Paki, etc are totally intolerant of their muslim citizens entertaining independent thought regarding religion. How frightened those govts are!

What's a Louk Kreung (however it's spelled) kid? And is that relevant?

Generally, you see the meat you want, choose it and get it weighed. That's what you pay. If you want that hunk ground up, they will do that, often no charge. If you want the outside fat trimmed off prior to grinding, ask for that. Give the fat to your dog or mother in law. But regardless of what the butcher does after the price is determined, that price will not change. Seems very sensible to me.
If you want to eat fatty, cholesterol laden beef, fine. But besides the clogged arteries, there will be a price to pay.

Many spineless managers, and owners, of these shops. And to the WiFi users, 'get a life'.
Saw many at Super Bowl this morning at pub, one eye on game, other in mini-screen in their hand looking for world news, or porno. Sad really, to see so many, grown adults, so dependent on the device.
