  1. Rot Fai Park is absolutely fabulous! I love the place. I often go to Bangkok just to spend the day in this wonderful park! you can hire a bicycle for just 30 baht and just perfect for bike rides! I meet loads of lovely ladies whilst on my cool 30 baht bicycle ( with basket and bell) and take some fab photos and of course enjoy a picnic lunch in the gardens! If i lived in Bangkok i would spend a lot of time in here and its a great place for making new friends!

Here are a couple of photos i took from last year!

    regards,

    nice photos!!!

  2. yeah maybe it is odd?? I like to mix with both farangs & Thai"s not just with farangs all the time.. If that's so odd so be it!

What I wouldn't want to do is stay in a apartment full of farangs, spend all day and night in a bar with same and eat nothing but farang food all the time, which is what some seem to want to do..

Yes this I find odd too

There's another thread knocking about "favourite bar in BKK" and everyone who replies said their fave bar was one of the English / Irish / Expat / Sports bars most of which are like a poor imitation of a bad bar from back home.

But there has to be a balance IMO. Living like a minimum wage Thai totally defeats the purpose of being in Thailand for me, The joy of living there is that because things are so cheap you can improve your standard of living and live better than you can back home.

If you go to Thailand and are living in a worse condition then what's the point?

Not saying canary is, he seems to enjoy his life here so fair enough, but many do seem to come here and live really miserable lives full of cheapness for the sake of being cheap

  3. I honestly doubt that I would think them lovely but in any case its the location that is the problem. Most single Farang want easy access to amenities such as internet , restaurants , bars , shops and markets , entertainment etc. A fluent Thai speaker who enjoys his own company might be fine , otherwise the bus/ cab fares will soon add up.

yeah I see your point about the location and cost of transport etc... I have only stayed in a village once, just a couple of days one night, at a friend of a friends house... Have to say I liked it there, house people village very nice... Thought at the time I could live somewhere like this, just going into town for a couple of nights a week maybe.. Yeah I like a few beers in the bars etc when I am in Thailand.. If I lived there don't think I would want to be in the bars every night!! What I wouldn't want to do is stay in a apartment full of farangs, spend all day and night in a bar with same and eat nothing but farang food all the time, which is what some seem to want to do..

That's why if you did live your life in the bars and eating farang food every day (kind respect to those who do....) Then life will obviously become very expensive! You can live in Bangkok from as little as 4,000 USD a year if you live a simple & basic life 8,000 USD a year living in Bangkok you could live a Rock & Roll lifestyle (part time)

The difference is buying a coffee in Starbucks for 130 baht or Thai coffee shop for 25 baht ! ( I must admit i rather like the hot chocolate viewers...) F.J

    Yeah I agree with that..

  5. Yes easily done in Chiang Mai on 6000 baht a month! if you are " single and easygoing " houses with gardens from 2000 baht a month! ( Bangkok is a little bit more expensive ) But a house with a garden in a village in Chaing Mai and a bicyle is all you need! and you can have a " cool life " ...

    Greetings!

Wow really?? Did not think you would be able to get a house for that price!! That's really good!! Cheers mate.

  6. Hello to all our viewers!

My advice to anybody looking for accommodation in Bangkok ( or anywhere else in Thailand ) is to firstly " Think Thai and try to deal with Thai people only.Find an area in Bangkok you like. The great thing about Bangkok is you don't need to think about buying " a car or motorbike " . When looking for accommodation it's best to " do it on foot " walking about ! The best priced accommodation normally will not be advertised. You need to get out and about talking to all the Thai locals. If you have to start knocking on doors then do so! ( i was a window canvasser in the UK many years ago.....) I would prefer to find a place that is a few minutes walk from a 7 eleven and up to a nice 30 minute stroll to a Big C or Tesco Lotus ( although not essential ) Once you find a place you will need to find out from the Thai's living in the " block " how much they are paying for rent! ( then you know the real rental cost ) Be polite but also ruthless if they even offer it to you 500 baht a month more then i would just walk away.( They will soon call you back if they are interested ) Remember you are now " a Thai " ! You will also need to know the price of electric and water also. Never pay 6 months or a year in advance! I have just found a lovely place for a thai girl recently in Bangkok for 3,500 baht a month and with free wifi too! so there are plenty of good deals about but you must get out there!

I could live in Bangkok very cheaply i also know Bangkok extremely well. For a day trip the skytrain is great but if like myself you will probably spend most of your time outside " out and about " and using the skytrain every day will work out very expensive! The local buses are nice and cheap or just " walk " it's a very sociable place and by walking about you will meet some great characters ( you may even bump into me viewers...! ) I would recommend to buy a bicycle ( with basket & bell ) for just 1,500 baht new! ( a " cool way to get about " ) It's not all " cars and smoke " Bangkok has some fabulous Parks,i would spend a lot of time in there ( oh and they are all free! ) Plenty of cheap food stalls to eat at from about 30 - 40 baht a meal.I could budget your 8000 USD to last you 2 years in Thailand but 8,000 USD will be more than enough for one year to have a nice life!

Hi, so you can really live on 6000 baht a month ? That's great mate, seems you are really living a good life there!! Good for you.. I would quite like to be in CM or maybe the north-east.. Yeah bkk has some nice parks and I like to walk!

  7. OP, how romantic of you...........hope the proposal was accompanied by the appropriate noises.

As I about me. I didn't propose, she said to me one day, tomorrow we are going to BKK to get married, get ready..........

No questions asked......just followed orders and we are happy ever after.

And yes, she wears the trousers round here..........

Yeah that's a good one!! lol. Good to know your happy! Well done! Glad you found the right one..

Im sorry mate , your lifestyle may suit you but cut the nonsense about attracting women. It may be possible that flocks of hot Thai ladies are drawn to you , seduced by the glamour of your fan cooled bedsit , your promise of no wining , dining or even a movie on the TV. Yes its possible but I hardly think its a no brainer , reckon the punters you mock have a far better chance of a ' romantic evening ' regardless how they choose to pay for it.

Incidently you neglected to answer my earlier question, why do you think the attractive lady ask you to dinner and why did you turn her down ?

    Mr Cool Frog...

I don't attract " flocks of hot women " My point is that going to a bar to meet ladies i find is a waste of time and money when you can approach any lady just by " going outside " in the streets, parks, shopping Malls, banks,Big C,beaches, absolutely anywhere! Ok i don't drink but i always socialize the " natural way " and meet lovely people!

I am not interested in a relationship with anybody and after nearly 4 years of living in Thailand i have never had a Thai Girlfriend. I prefer doing my own thing ( " a free spirit " ) i like to come and go as i like. Also i don't have much in common with many of the Thai ladies as i like to be out in the sun all day,i love walking ( 10 KM every day ) afternoons on the beach, train journeys and being on my bicycle! oh and i never watch TV! lol ) But i do like to socialize and have a few Thai friends.

Actually the Thai lady that asked me out to supper.( Thai BBQ ) works in a bar somewhere, she has 3 different farang that send her money every month.( and probably gets barfined most nights...) She is not my type at all but because i am not interested in her ( although extremely polite as always ) she won't leave me alone! Even with the Thai ladies some want what they can't have! ) i enjoy " playing the game " it's all part of the fun!

I live a simple but happy life on my small budget and my room is adequate.( a fan room is perfect as i dislike air con anywhere! ) I also travel a lot of the time using the trains and enjoy taking photos ( also on the trains is a great way to meet people! ) In fact even on my budget i probably travel about a lot more than most farang on much higher budgets. My plan is to continue with my 2000 baht a month room here in Naklua ( Pattaya ) and hope to take on another room in one of the villages in chiang Mai ( i found a nice one for 1000 baht a month with bathroom over looking a rice field ) and then i will travel as and when i wish using the train ( from 231 baht on the train from BKK to CM ) so i have the beach life and then the beautiful countryside of CM for my Bicycle ( it really is a cool place for bike rides! )

So there you have it viewers!

    Regards,

Farang Jaidee ( jing jing )

yeah sounds like a good life to me mate!! Really surprised to can find a room for 2000 baht a month? So even more so that you can one in CM for a 1000!!? Really liked it there! Never been to Pattaya yet!! Always thought it would cost too much for one thing!! lol. Good for you mate.. cheers

  9. "Living in a small village type community within easy distance of a larger town with shopping & medical facilities would probably be ideal for us, but I am unsure how realistic this might be."

OP, it can be very realistic.

I live in a small village in rural Issan, about 45Klms from the capital of the region Khon Kaen.

Although in KK you can have the best medical and shopping facilities, locally you have the choice of 3 major hospitals, 2 Tesco's and lots of nice restaurants.

    2 Swimming pools also.

No other farang lives in my village, but there are loads of farangs in other villages around and if you wish you can join their weekly meetings.

There is no night life around, but KK can offer you this entertainment.

You need a car here to go around.

As about housing, plenty around to rent.

    Is that what you want?

If yes PM me for further details.

Yeah that's sounds good!! Been to KK twice, liked it there.. How much to rent a small simple house around there???
