  1. Hi,

Am dutch too. Have done similarly in the past with my kids. Agreed as well with my wife that she occasionally would speak english to the kids. After a while I saw that she was not really willing to do that so I spoke dutch and english. I took my twindaughters every night to bed and read bedtime stories for them always in dutch. I saw the importance of language but my wife not. I had to let it go somewhat in order for harmony in the house to remain.

Anyway fast forward 5 years of not living with my kids it saddens me to write that my kids, 10 and 11 years old, only speak thai and have no interest in learning any language. This due to ......

Make sure that you stick to your plans and your wife too. Dont make the same mistake as I did.

    Veel succes.

  2. Been staying in Phitsanulok, unfortunately, there for a while until May I frequently visited the only foreign owned bar/restaurant in Phitsanulok.

It is called Dtit Paak, owned by an american, Bill.

Location......go to the nightmarket which is at the river, then go straight out of town by following the river for around 2 kms. You will see just before an intersection a restaurantboat. Dtit Paak is opposite of the boat on same side of the river.

Open from 4 pm if I remember correctly.

I am going through a sticky patch right now and am leaving the wife ( another subject on another thread) plans to move from central issat to rayong area but your post made me halt and rethink.

Selfish, rude,  dishonest, immoral, feckless, delusional, narcissistic are but some of the words used to describe our indig hosts but thereagain they are pretty much the same words that I use to describe some of the people with whom I am forced to deal ( esp estate agencies) back home. So on balance the weather and prefereable tax here swings it to yup I would stay ( actually will stay) but thanks for making me reconsider.

Well good luck, sounbds like you really need It after reading your comment.

Yes,the money was raised thru' loan sharks without the husbands knowledge.

The family played the leading role in the whole thing.SiL.BiL.sons...etc.The foreigner purchased all the goods for the shop, anyway.Well covered at that point.

Sounds familiar to me. I could have written that. But not for a shop.

Liars are they, most of them. Enabled by the silent voices of "the family".

  5. By reading some of the responses it certainly seems that in regards to stating uninformed, prejudiced, projected and ignorant opinions, with the sole aim of putting someone down, there is no difference between cultures. Its good you guys left and you must fit in very well overhere !

Furthermore i truly cant see how i feel superior to the thais when my sole reason was to try explain a childwelfare organization about this type of abuse and that it has a very, lifelong, effect on children. Overhere....Thai children ! I care about that because i have seen the effects, through my eyes as being a father, on my children.

  6. Called today Childline again regarding issues I have related to the invisible abuse related to my children. I told them that I would like to visit them next week to explain them about....emotional abuse...and that it is harmful for young children for now and in future. Many children unknowingly suffer from this abuse in broken families. I had contacted them before but without any succes. The recent threats by the mother of my children to me and the way how she spoke, like an immature 10 yr old, decided for me to call them again. My kids cant be helped, for now at least, so I thought maybe if Childline is really interested in the childs welfare they would be pleased with my visit.

The answer was.....this is Thailand and not Europe.

So.....what is Thai culture and where do the big differences lie between The West and Thailand ?

    Kapom !

While commendable, what you've done, a tad off-topic.  I'm pretty sure the OP is talking about farangs who complain endlessly about Thai driving habits while doing absolutely nothing to actually fix what they consider life-threatening problems.

My son of nearly 11 complained to me Initially why I jek jek and blow the horn too much whilst driving mbike In this beautiful land. Part of his faulty conditioning ofcourse. After I explained to him my reasons why.....silence since then. U see....on a small scale I have contributed to the awareness of future generation overhere.

Good one OP/inarky.  You've made some good  suggestions, but I doubt any of these "outraged farangs" will do anything constructive.  Because you see, th ese complainers/whiners/whingers on TV are not only lazy, but are inherently cowards.  All they can do is attack the Thais anonymously on a web forum.  You put these Thai-bashers in front of a real person and they'll wet their panties in short order.

Hmmm...I have critized thai organizations IN person about their cultural flaws.....silence ....was their response.....no wet panties mate....at least on my side.

Plenty of thais are the cowards In this beautiful land.

Talking to the family is always the downfall. My g/f keeps telling me that her mother thinks she should get a younger man. Her last "younger" man was a horn dog and left her. She keeps telling her mother at least she knows that I will not kick her out the door. The grass sometimes looks greener till you climb the fence. Parental guidance is very strong here.

    Misguidance you mean !

So at the "moment" I have a great Isaan wife and know a few that don't I should not post....?

AND, my life is what I/we make it, perhaps l am lucky. Ten years in Isaan enjoying our life may be different to many, but that ten years enables me to talk TRUE....Whether like or don't like it doesn't bother me because l have seen and dealt with both sides of the coin..

At your blessed age, I would want to be blind for the truth as well. Bless you !
