We subsequently learned that it is totally bogus and never did provide any health care coverage whatsoever.

It is simply a new 500 baht fee upon arriving in Thailand whose new intention is to make sure only high-end tourists arrive (presumably because only high-end people have 500 baht).

Members of the vetting panel tried to argue that the bill had to be changed to grant blanket amnesty because the Constitution prohibits discrimination in legal enforcement. They said the original draft could be deemed unconstitutional.

But this argument led to the question as to why the Pheu Thai had earlier insisted that amnesty could be granted only to general demonstrators even though several sides had pointed out that such a bill could be deemed discriminating against wrongdoers in several other cases.

What a snow job (not easy to do in the tropics).

Good thing for PTP that they squandered all that education money on broken tablets instead of actually educating the rural poor that put them in office.

Meanwhile, Thaksin's son Panthongtae posted a message on Facebook saying he and his siblings understood why the red shirts were against the blanket amnesty bill.

"Sud Soi [all the way] amnesty is a moot point because we [the Shinawatra family] would be satisfied with a retrial of cases," he said, asking for an appellate review.

So the mealy-mouthed son, Oaf, is claiming Daddy really doesn't want amnesty, but gosh darn it, Daddy didn't appeal his conviction when he had the opportunity and no one has offered him the opportunity for a new trial, so he's forced to acquiesce and accept the amnesty...as much as he really doesn't want to.

Different than the impression that is given here - it was actually very difficult to see armed militants operating. There were very few, and they did not go and pose for the media. For the most part they operated at night, and very briefly at the most dangerous spots. The vast majority of journalists did not work in those spots as it was simply too dangerous there, and too dark to get any images or footage. Just not worth the risk. That is why there is so little footage of them.

I have seen them operating only once, at a place so dangerous that i had no desire whatsoever to do that again.

That the hired men in black excelled at cover and concealment and covert night ops is hardly surprising. That was their purpose and reflected their supeior training and resources compared to the average foot soldier on the opposing RTA.

Those aspects that they were rarely detectable does nothing to lessen their impact. It actually increases it.

It is funny to, once again, see in the OP that Pheu Thai issue edicts that full compliance to its voting selection is demanded of its MP's. Non-compliance in the TRT days led to dismissals. Seems absolutely no independent thought is tolerated in this PTP-style democracy, either.

Many years ago at the original ruling, Thailand had politicial troubles inside and could not do anything.

Than for decades Cambodia and Thailand were happy to govern the area together and avoid any conflict by calling it "overlapping" area.

Than Thaksin made his shady deal with Hun Sen for his island resort in Cambodia in exchange for the temple land, that causes the Nationalists on both sides to wake up.

I was wondering about the 2015 "deadline" : Was at the site a week ago and not much going on as of yet, just basic earth moving, tree uprooting and scrap car/metal removing. Don't see how they can complete it in 2 years, it's a rather large building.

Yingluck's government signed the contract last May which stipulated a 900-day completion, putting it at October 18, 2015, for its 12.2 Billion Baht price tag.

Subsequently, a progress report last month reflected progress was only at 0.34% between June 8 and September 3. It should been over ten times that amount to remain on schedule.

Still, one wonders given the opulent and grand splendor of the project, why they are spending a satang on the old place. The wasted money on clocks and coffee tables could have been spent on putting things back on pace.

The annocement of the dropping of charges was handled about the same way some people use a statue of limitations or even a nations borders to keep from facing justice, embarrasement, jail time, etc. The AG retired from office, thus assuring himself of a nice retirement and possibly future employment in somer capacity, then announced he had dropped the charges, prior to his retirement.

Mired in dubious timing coupled with a highly suspect subterfuge is a hallmark of just about anything involving Thaksin.

I am wondering if the new AG might have a political bias, rather than being unbiased, first he decides to drop the terrorism charges against Thaksin and the decides to charge Abhisit and Suthep. If there is sufficient evidence to warrent the dropping of charges against a furgitive who is on the run, then fine, and if there is sufficient evidence to indict someone who was carrying out thier duty against an armed mob that had terrorised the populace, invaded a hospital and set fire to at least one building in the commercial heart of the city causing disruption to the livelihoods of a large number of retailers, then go ahead. If however, the AG is acting with political bias, then perhaps the same commitee which is reviewing the dropping of charges against the fugitive former PM should also investigate the AG's actions.
