I was worried that might be the permanent solution!
I have two young children, so true peace and quiet is a distant memory for me anyway... -
Thanks Henrico. We will check it out.
Having some sort of regulation sounds like the best scenario. Listening to dogs yapping all night would drive me insane also!
What sort of "permanent solution" are you thinking about mikebell?? That sounds like a drastic measure! Should the neighbourhood dogs be nervous?? -
Seems much more likely landlords will allow pets in Thailand, as opposed to Australia, where it is difficult to find a landlord who will allow pets.
Thanks for the answers. -
We are looking at renting a detached house in a gated community in a suburb such as bang na, and I am wondering whether you can have a pet such as a dog?? Do some allow pets and some don't? Anyone have any experience with this? Looking at houses for rent online there no mention of whether or not pets are allowed.
any information appreciated. -
Thanks to all those who have replied. I have spent a reasonable amount of time in BKK, but not a lot in suburbs so far.
Si Racha might be a bit far from Bangkok, but will check it out along with other areas mentioned. I think On Nut may be a little too expensive, but Lat Krabang and Rom Klao are now on the list!
Thanks again.

That's two for Bang Na now. Have been looking at DD Property. Seem to be able to get something nice enough for 25-30k per month.
thanks for replies.

Forgot to mention we will be renting, but i guess the 25000/month gives that away...

Thanks for the reply.
Hoping to spend around 25000/month. Is this reasonable? I will likely be working on east side, maybe chonburi, in 6 months time. We have to consider school for the kids and other things such as hospitals. Nakhon Pathom was only considered due to some friends of my wife, who is thai, living there. Having lived there myself in the past, I am not keen to live there again!
I haven't been to Bang Saen, so will have to check it out when we arrive. Otherwise Bang Na sounds like the best bet.

Moving to Bkk in two weeks. Have to find a place suitable for 2 & 3 year old kids (and parents obviously).
Considering Bang Saen (Chonburi)
or suburbs of Bangkok. eg. Bang Na, Bangkapi, Nonthaburi, even out towards Nakhon Pathom.Any suggestions or experiences? Has to be house with yard for kids to run wild...
thanks in advance.

I have so far left the dealings with the consulate to my wife, and as far as i know we have to get the certificates first. Also, the certificates can be done by post, whereas the passports require both parents to go to the embassy in canberra, which is about an 8 hour drive from melbourne... We probably only have 6-7 weeks before we leave, so i think we will have to leave the passports to Thailand.
thanks for all the input.

thanks for the answers. I'll ask the consulate if they can fast track passport applications for them. Not sure whether the current situation is slowing this sort of thing down, or if it is operationg as normal.

Thanks for the reply.
so are they thai citizens when they receive a thai birth certificate? Or when they get a thai passport? or are they just considered thai citizens due to mother being thai? I have been told about the military issue, and i do have a 3 year old son, but i have no idea whether we will be there for 1 year or forever. i figure we have 15 years to deal with military conscription. Rules may change by then anyway.
Cheers.

Hi all,
i will be moving to Thailand at short notice with my wife (thai) and my two kids (3 & 2 years, half thai-half aussie) in August. We are in the process of getting thai birth certificates through thai consulate in Australia, but plan to then get kids passports in Thailand, as they will take too long through thai consulate in Aus. as far as i can see, if they have thai birth certs they can be registered on tabien baan and then apply for passport in Thailand without too much trouble. Is this correct?
Also, if they enter Thailand on Australian passport, they will only get the standard 30 days? I have read kids don't get fined for overstay, but isn't there a better way? once passports received there should i take kids over border and re-enter on thai passport?
Any help appreciated.
