  1. Hi ,I am in Oz now and fly back to Thailand in a few days and just noticed my passport is valid for five months ,I think you have to have six months valid passport to enter or for the airline to let you leave .

But I still have a non O visa multi entry in the passport ,would they still let me fly or do I need a new passport ? Also I have a return flight to Oz five days after I arrive ,only staying five days to pick up the family.

    Thanks all.

  2. those beaches will never be the same. years from now beach goers will be wiping the bottoms of their feet to get the tar off. it will never come out of the rocks completely. any business directly in front of the affected areas will fold. ninety days from now they will still be cleaning up with no end in sight. it is a complete and total disaster.

Not to worry, in a day or 2 TAT will issue a statement that the oil spill has not affected tourist numbers on Koh Samet

and infact, tourist numbers have increase by xx % on the same time last year. TIT

hey hey stop the Thailand bashing ,if you dont like oily beaches and plastic bag trees you can always leave and go back home .

please note this was written in the sarcastic font ,not sure if TV uses it.

    nice font lensta.55555

  3. Looks like we will break our record of least amount of taps per fortnight, tomorrow. 4 !!!

I can beat that. We haven't even opened ours yet . Rains too scarce

    Fezzy,

Same here in Mae Ai. Not enough rain - will let the trees stay idle until enough rain has dropped. Re-thought our "profit margin" with our (approx.) 8,000 trees. Must work for another year or so and upon retirement, the lifestyle will have to go down a notch or 2. Still have the teak plantations and other investments bringing in a "supplement" income. Eggs are not being carried in one basket. A long time ago I had advised other farmers here of this.

Definitely going to blow a load of money on 4 or 5 deep bore wells this year...... Farq!

where are you guys ,Scott and Mosha? must be pretty dry round there,i hope you get some soon ,where not far from khon kaen and have good rains but my mate went in Mahasarakam yesterday which is not far and he said its dry. How old are your teak trees Scott and how old do they have to be to sell?

  4. I have had a good look around ,that pic that I posted is in Hua Thanon ,samui .I lived across the road from there for a few years ,that pic is after a storm and its not like that all the time I have to admit ,but if you look at it at a quick glance when driving past in the car or stand on the beach and look out of the corner of your eye it looks ok ,but walk down to the waters edge and step on a broken m150 bottle and the sight of your blood may change your mind .

Out there is a reef and and if your game enough to dodge the broken glass and get your googles wet you will see rubbish all the way out to the reef 365 days a year ,and if you get on the island out there its filthy .Most of it comes from the fishing village down the road .

I went back down there last week and being in the hash house harries that run everywhere on that island ,i went on a run out in the sticks in some lovely coconut plantations and hills ,and same as the many runs ive been on there you come across piles of dumped rubbish and building materials everywhere .

Last time I went to ko Samet a few years ago it was like a garbage tip ,I thought I had discovered a new species , the plastic bag tree. And thats a national park .

The problem is rubbish, and Thais think that chucking it in the bush its gone ,but when the rain comes and it goes into the ocean .

I agree with the other guy that says post pics and shame them into doing something about it ,I dont really think that chinese and indian tourists mind standing around in a bit of rubbish if they can breath a bit better than there homeland and dont need a pair of stilts to walk through the <deleted>.

They really need to to start an ed program in schools here ,ever been behind a song tow full of kids on there way back from school .

  5. That's what you want millions more tourists throwing rubbish all over the beach and blocking up already overloaded sewage systems ,more cars busses and pollution .

I went down south last week and it was filthy ,the beaches and water just made me want to go home were I don't have to look at it ,and chooka your right that's the phillipines ,I'll show you a shot of a thai beach ,from Samui and you understand why they wanted to show another country's beach for promo shots.

  6. Its been a major problem in the sth hemisphere for 15-20 years. Australia's great barrierreef had a severe bleaching problem some time ago.

Its caused by climate change but mostly for reefs in shallows.

Not much can be done about it which will please the government because they wont do anything anyway. mass tourism will prolong the problem ie oil slicks from boats jetskis , fumes and noise(vibration) wont help either.

Australias marine environment is tightly controlled and some reefs are recovering but that wont happen here... TAT will see to that. 100 million hi-so tourists targeted for 2025! LOL TIT

Your right mate ,look at this photo from beautiful Samui ,hua thanon ,check out the rubbish on the beach .

I used to live across the road from here and there is a reef and coral island off shore it looks like this out there too.

  7. My understanding is that there is no 'clinical' cure for dengue, and that it must run its course. I further understand that paracetamol (or something similar) is generally given to alleviate some of the pain and discomfort.

I have found what is supposed to be a 'country cure' which involves the use of papaya leaf juice, but I don't know of anyone who has tried it. Google is your friend however, and it might be of interest to google 'dengue fever - alternative treatment'. It would be interesting to hear if it works for anyone here.

I do know that there is no connection between malaria and dengue. Malaria is treatable. I believe that dengue is spread by a day biting mosquito, so it's wise to protect against these.

Yer your right about the papaya mate ,I had the dengue fever ten years ago in Indo and was really sick for a week or so ,headaches ,aching bones and just couldn't move ,the locals gave me the papaya concoction and i was up and about in no time ,but as far as I remember it was papaya SKIN juice .

I dont know if it was the juice that fixed me or the fever had just ran its course ,but worth a go if you get a dose of the bone crusher.

And yes they get you get you in the day time ,malaria mozzies at night .

  8. Just had some guys come into the village to buy ,I went and had a look ,cup rubber 36bt a kilo .they said last week they could get 39 , are these similar prices you guys are getting ?

Update on the tree I moved ,it is dead and and buried ,replaced him with a new one .

Well hope the price comes up for everyone out there .

  9. The only thing that may help change this type of thing is shaming them on social media etc ,you know Thailand doesn't like to lose face ,people need to spread it around .

Most people OS don't know about this ,share the link with friends on Facebook ,twitter and emails and forums like this, there's even a boycott red bull Facebook page .

It's very unfair that the rich brats get away Scott free and some poor arse farmer goes straight to jail for a small thing ,like the guy selling CDs of the abc doco.they whacked that poor dude straight in the slammer ,he didnt kill anyone .

  10. I don't see any mention that the Thai Met Office has been consulted even if forecasting is less than an exact science especially long range. Looks like a couple of senior officials want to see their name up in lights as per usual.

In my part of Isan it's been raining for coming on 8 hours with no sign of let up.

We must be in the same part ,pissing down all night and still raining now, here's a shot out my back door.

  11. It can probably be done, but the soil ball should at lest go out to the widest leaf. Just a guess though and depth ???

Thanks mosha, I will let you know if this one lives ,but as I said not a bit of soil on him ,he's a baldy.pissing down rain today so will check tomorrow .will get a photo up soon too.

Off topic, but are you by any chance, like myself, a Hunter S Thompson fan?

On topic, moving 3 year old tree, you may be lucky, but i doubt it.

Yes I sure am a hunter s Thompson fan, glad to see some one got it ,and yer I hope that tree makes it but I doubt it too,it's been raining buckets here last few days and haven't got down there to check on it .

  13. Anyone ever transplanted a tree? I just dug up a four meter one and moved it ,it's three year old and I tried to keep a bit of soil around it but it all fell off ,all the leaves fell off and it's been three weeks now .No new leaves yet ,I think it's doomed but was just interested to know if it can be done or has been done successfully by anyone one out there .

    Thanks .
