  1. Is a one year retirement visa considered 'expat'? How do we get this pink non-Thai ID for retirees?
  2. To add to what Blackcab said, you need to have mobile internet service on your phone before using cardless ATM. So if you do not have internet on your phone, you cannot use cardless ATM but must use your ATM card to withdraw like in the old days.
  3. Most people are not educated in the financial world and the different 'investment' schemes that is hidden behind good marketing and packaging. The sellers usually tell you the pros (high interest) but not the cons i.e. you could lose all your capital money (just like Bitcoin and gambling)
  4. Immigration officer needs to improve her English. It should be 'You must get a visa' and not 'You will get a visa'..... That said, if immigration is not strict with visa-runners, who would want to get a visa?
  5. What is the name of that antibiotic?
  6. @BillStrangeOgre Go see a doctor and they will be able to see what's the cause of the infection.
  7. Some people are allergic towards penicillin-like antibiotics such as amoxicillin.
  8. I have had former classmates from AUA who complained that they hardly learned anything from that school. Many foreigners are unaware that the Thai language that they teach are too formal and nobody use that in everyday life. I learned through everyday conversation with real Thai people (not bar areas), the spoken language is so different from the formal language taught which almost always focus on Sanskrit words and Indian grammar and not real spoken Thai. Eg. Panraya is a Sanskrit word.
  9. I can get antibiotics for only 150 baht at a local pharmacy. 1000 baht is ridiculous.
  10. BTW they are not my 'friends'. I am just recommending the better teachers after years of learning Thai and living in Thailand.
  11. If you do not need it for visa, then I recommend online learning. https://learnthaiwithmod.com/ Most Thai schools teach formal Thai which is not useful anyway. Most Thai teachers do not know how to teach. Kru Mod and gang will teach how not to make mistakes that most farangs make.
  12. I found out the hard way after many months of studying Thai at YMCA that 70% of the vocabulary and some grammar are never used in spoken Thai. Why? Because those are formal words and formal pronunciation that Thai people do not use everyday. The spoken language is a different language altogether from the language taught by these Thai teachers. Where are you going should be taught at P1, it's so simple. What do they teach at P1 level anyway?
  13. What about the real natives - the Mon people? Both the Melayu and the Tai are not natives in that region, read this article below https://eastasiaorigin.blogspot.com/2022/03/ethnic-origin-of-malay.html
  14. No, transfer passport means to transfer the immigration stamps/visa from the old passport to the new passport. It has nothing to do with extension. Extend by 30 days is in the tourist visa category.
  15. The sun does not stay in the same position throughout the year. Generally, the windows should not face the afternoon sun as that is the hottest. Morning sun is alright.
  16. I did bring my tax id card to show to them but they won't even look at it saying that the tax will NOT be deducted for SCB eazy account.
  17. I've seen many Thai people parking their cars & motorcycles selfishly, i.e. blocking other people from parking. Don't the transport dept teach learners to park properly?
  18. We should not just look at the service charge, it's also the exchange rate that is more important. SWIFT usually give a bad exchange rate so the total cost will be higher than using Wise.
  19. What most banks need to see is a residence certificate and not a recommendation letter. That said, a farang-friendly bank is Bangkok Bank.
  20. I remembered many months ago that I did that because you informed us in this forum. When I reached there many months ago, there were many blank faces when I asked them to link my tax id to my bank account. They said there's no such thing so I gave up....
  21. Yes, I have but they did not believe me; they even thought that I did not understand what they are saying.lol In fact, two staff members chipped in to 'confirm' that my account will not be tax deducted unlike a fixed deposit account. This is a branch at Central Festival in Chiang Mai which is a large branch.
  22. What is the success rate for those applicants? What happens if after getting the citizenship, there is a divorce?
  23. To put this rate for 1 year is not advisable because interest rates are going up worldwide. I do not believe in putting money for so long in case of emergencies for retirees with no income.
