Trump of course should not have blasted out such a dumb statement on eating pets. That was idiotic. It might be true but don't worry about it because in time there will be way worse as a result of Biden's and the Chameleon's policies.
Chameleon Harris? Surprised Drumpf didn't go for that one.

It's 10,000 baht for the DTV extension. I guess I'm assuming everyone is like me -- I'd rather spend that money on a flight and take a holiday instead of giving it to immigration.
It's not yet established what will be the cost of DTV extension. Most think it will be same as other visas, i.e. B1,900. Also if you travel out and back in within the 180 days, the 5 years visa will cost B10,000 total (ok plus travel costs).

I see. You were looking for the word "consecutive" and could not find it.
Tough luck. None of the other multiple-entry visas include that word either.
I'm comfortable with 'unlimited'

I certainly hope the DTV does allow consecutive multiple 180 day entries for the 5-year validity of the visa, but ...........
But nothing:
Section 3
Aliens who wish to apply for permission to enter the Kingdom as a special case under this Announcement shall apply for the visa of type "Special Tourist Visa (Destination Thailand Visa: DTV)". The visa can be applied for at Thai embassies or consulates abroad and is valid for an unlimited number of times within the five-year validity period of the visa.

Here’s a list of the important Thailand DTV visa facts:
- Visa Duration: 5-years
- Visa Type: Multiple entry
- Length of Stay per Entry: 180 days
- Extendable: Yes, once per year
- Obtainable From: A Royal Thai Embassy/Consulate or online through Thailand’s official e-visa website
- Minimum Age for Primary Visa Holder: 20 years old
- Option to Include Family: Yes
So basically if using extensions (cost not confirmed yet but either B10,000 or B1,900 prolly). You only have to leave every 360 days then return?

The DTV is not a five year visa. You can stay a maximum of 360 days (180 + extension 180) within those five years in Thailand. If you are planning to stay long term here, it'll give you a mere 72 days per year, the other time you need to spend outside of Thailand.
This is a guesswork. Show us where you have seen that.....
It says on the website that each (multiple) entry will be given 180 days....

Also, you don't qualify for the DTV, because you are a retiree, and that is not a category that it supports.
But you could be a retiree who wants a DTV for cooking classes or medical treatment for 5 years

Is it 180 + 180 days max., or in and out for up to 5 years? Surely multiple entry just means unlimited in and out within the 180 + 180, and no further extension after max of 360 days? After all, it specifies ONE extension. Has anyone asked/clarified that question?

Why is it "but not near Phuket"?

Its now reported that the 2 drivers who came forward to confess to the beating are not the right guys and that they and 2 others have been arrested and charged. Who does this benefit, and so why did the wrong guys confess if they are clearly facing jail time?
Cherng Talay Police have confirmed the arrests of two taxi drivers wanted for the assault on a Grab driver in Bang Tao on Dec 2.

For someone who once lived there, you seem remarkably ill informed about the current situation.. Please elaborate the circumstances you 'imagine' which could lead to the return of the status quo as we once knew it.
