Typical ..facebook allows a 3rd party to casually rip off the data of 87 m users and assist in the election of the worst POTUS in history and help uk leave the eu.

    Not a wimper.

A thai company makes a similar mistake but far less implications and ho hum lets denigrate thailand and its people.

The Facebook data breach was not exactly the same as leaking customer's personal identification details (Name, ID, Birth Date, Address, Phone etc. <- everything needed for ID fraud). Facebook data consisted of likes and preferences, enough to build a metric profile that if used correctly could show you information that would influence your decisions but not be used for identity fraud (no-one could steal your ID and thereby open accounts in your name).

  2. Input errors happen. Don't stress about it. Just show them the exit stamp in your passport if you are ever asked.

In my case I think the issue may have been that I was exiting with my young son, so we were pulled aside by a supervisor who stamped us both out at her desk and simply put the stamped departure cards in her drawer. For all I know those cards are still in her desk and they never made it into the system. According to my old landlord they made a note of it and left.

I'm not going to panic about it as I can simply show them my departure stamp (a full 2 months before my extension was going to expire) and entry stamp to my home country the next time I go to Thailand.

  3. I had the same thing happen at exactly the same spot (that's the road heading out of China town to cross the bridge to Thonburi). I was in that same lane and was sideswiped by a taxi making the turn without indicating. I suffered only minor injuries, but the taxi sped off only to get caught in traffic under the bridge. One of the delivery guys on an old Vespa caught up to the taxi and tried to make him stop, but he wouldn't and just pushed through into a side road and disappeared. The Vespa guy got a picture of the license plate and we went to the cops, but nothing came from it.

  4. They are definitely marketing the hell out of Thailand in SA at the moment and offering some amazing deals. 7 nights in Phuket for R7999 ($650) all inclusive (flights, accommodation, food and taxes). No wonder numbers are up. Heck many could afford to do it every month if they could get the time off work.

  5. Natural borders refers to mountain and jungle that separates countries. Back in 2006 myself and some friends ended up in Laos while doing some offroad biking up near Nan. This was pre-GPS on phone days and the only way we knew we were in Laos was when we were stopped by some Laotian soldiers at a village we decided to by some snacks at. After explaining our mistake they explained that we were about 40km inside Laos and that we should travel with the Sun on our right to get back into Thailand. All smiles and we were off and back in Thailand for dinner without a single checkpoint.

Also, when an African government or company is seeking a foreign business partner or investor, needless and stupid insults like Trump's only serve to disadvantage US companies who may be bidding on such ventures -- to the advantage of Chinese companies, for instance. So much for being a "great businessman," "the best negotiator"!

All part of the plan. Alienate enough allies and others who haven't taken a side yet and the Russians and Chinese can move in freely to grab their business and resources. I still wonder who actually thinks Trump's strings aren't being pulled by Moscow and Beijing.

Thanks for the reply just hope they don't speak to my 5yr old, as she is going to be very upset leaving her Mum.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated. The trials and Tribulations of officials can be very stressful.

Try a dry run overland, as someone recommended (first to somewhere like Cambodia). If you eventually have issues flying out from the airport then you could always do a land crossing to Malaysia and try to fly out from there.

  8. Get a letter from her saying that she gives you permission to leave the country with them and have a copy of her ID card attached to the letter. It's hit and miss with immigration at the airport.

My son only has a foreign passport that he entered Thailand on and uses. I've never had problems or questions when taking him on visa runs over land, but have twice been asked at the airport. The last time the officer wanted to talk to my ex even though I had a letter and affidavit from my embassy.

  9. Even if you have your child's EU passport it's difficult to board a flight without the mother's permission. You may face questions from the airline and then again from immigration who often want to speak to the mother personally, as they did in my case. If you do manage to get a new passport for your child then you could try crossing the border overland. Immigration never questioned me at land borders when I took my son on visa runs with me.
