  1. Blues Factory-E-X-C-E-L-L-E-N-T best place for live music friendly, good chill out venue.

Well done to DAVE and especially all the musicians who make it what it is a good BLUES/ROCK VENUE! :D:o:D:D

  2. In the uk a guy i know well who frequently travels up to london daily by train to work (poor sod) and then goes into the underground system (even worse) especially after what happened last thursday london bombings, got really pissed off with all the beggars and tramps drug addicts hassling him for money/coins ect even vlocking his path sometimes, that he came up with a dastardly plan!.

He would got into the toilet and get a 2p ot 10p coin and hold it with INSULATED tweezers and heat it up with his gas lighter until it was really HOT,and then to the hassling person and place it in the persons hand and close it up if he could, this caused intense pain and shock/startlement,he would do this to ALL the other tramps/beggars,they would be in such pain some screaming that they would dissapear off to get treatment for the burns inflicted.

Not a nice thing to do- but its not nice to keep getting hassled either, maybe all these hasslers need teaching a lesson someway?-do unto others what they do unto you,or something like that, personally i just adopt the direct formal approach and tell them all to............ <deleted>> :o .... OFF!

  3. Hi there,

We stayed at the AMARI HOTEL 24TH May-10th june, when we first went down the steps to the beach by HENRY.J.BEANS we were so disappointed by the awful site of what you might apprehensibly call a beach and the poor state of the beach walkway nearly all the way along that we thought we had made a big mistake coming to pattaya,as time went on it got a bit better but is was dangerous to walk in most places you could easily have an accident!.

Well we could not do anything about it so went to jomtien beach that was better and a few times to koh samet island very nice, most of the time the hotel pool came up trumps except when we were there they were pile driving the ground 12 hrs a day for the first 3-4 days.

Apart from the beach and walkway we had a very enjoyable time in pattata especially my partner whom i thought might not like it but she did!,thank god for that as i was paying for it all. :o.

From reading the newspapers when out in in pattaya they are widening the beach?,good idea, yes but will it still be un-swimmable in because of pollution?,that is an issue that should be dealt with seriously so that pepole/kids on holiday can swim there or not as the case is now.

Seems all to be taking a long time to finish the walkway and works ect,and as a local newspapaer summed it up,where were all the workers?- that are employed by the council, when investigated no workers were there doing any work in the daytime when they were contracted to be working?,taking a very long siesta i think?-or maybe they had all fallen down all the big holes that they had left wide open :D:D

  5. Hi all,we are coming to the Amari Ochid Hotel in Pattaya 24th May 2005 and just received all our travel itenary and hotel documents and it says that the AOH Hotel has "building works in the lower gardens of the property from 9-9 daily"!,also that they are "construction a new tower and conference centre, heavy machinery will be used in the initial phase 01 may-05 may-31st dec06"!,what a shock, nothing was mentioned when we booked.

Also more news off AMO Hotel building a new restauraunt directly on the beach road opposite, built on the site of the La Gritta Restauraunt.

Can anyone gives us any feedback on how bad the builkding work is and any disruption and how bad it looks?i have e-mailed the travel company to complain, but maybe it is not as bad as it sounds!,is access to the beach compromised opposite the AMO?,any help or feedback apprecited especially if anyone lives nearby or can find out more would be much appreciated.

    regards :o

  6. Hi Bino, what is the traffic like at 6.00am in BKK?, as we are coming over next friday to stay in BKK for 3 nights.

We are being picked up by destination asia transfer company and taken the Radisson Hotel near th expressway link road?

We are staying in Pattaya for 17 night and someone posted that you could get a cheap minibus down the cost from pattaya, would that be possibly to get a boat connection to Koh Samet Island?,appreciate your help advice.

What was the name of the Hotel you sayed at that you mentioned on Koh Samet?.

Traffic at 6 AM is not bad. Most people are still waking up / getting ready for work. From 7 AM thru 9 AM it is h*llacious.

The trip from the airport to Radisson doesn't involve going into the city centre and at 6 AM should take about 40 mins.

I don't know too much about minibuses and tourist transportation because I live here and have a car, but I am sure that the same transport company could take you to Ban Phe, where the ferry terminal is located. Alternatively, any Pattaya tour / travel agent could sort you out. I don't think there are any boats available to Samed from Pattaya.

I like to stay at Ploy Talay Resort on Sai Kaew beach. There are many resorts and restaurants on this beach. Others have recommended Vong Duan Beach, which is also nice.

Ploy Talay is very basic- in the typical Thai style. It wouldn't rate any stars in the toursit guide! But- that is part of it's charm. They don't have a website either yet.

Hope this helps. Maybe some other members will have some input about transportation.

Thanks Bino, your reply back was very helpful indeed, gave us an idea of how long from BKK Airport to the Hotel.Any comments on the Radisson Hotel?.

  7. I spend most of my time living in working in Bangkok, but whenever the time is available we leave the city, and ultimately prefer the beach.

I love to get in my car and get out of the city. I'll drive anywhere if time is available. We leave the city in the wee hours (4:30 or 5 AM) when driving north. You are clear of the city before it wakes up and traffic starts, and can be in Chiang Mai in time for a late lunch.

Flying is the next option when travelling south to Phuket or Krabi for a short visit- 2 or 3 days. I have made this drive twice when a week or more was available to us. It takes 12 - 14 hours to drive, so doesn't make sense for a weekend trip.

My favorite weekend or 3/4 day getaway is Ko Samed. It is easily accessible from Bangkok, less than 3 hours drive. I usually stay at Ploy Talay resort on Sai Kaew beach. This beach is one of my favorites in all of Thailand- the whitest sand and clearest water- can see your feet when the water is up to your chin.

The hotel is truly "Thai" style and is located directly on the sand, and the restaurant is decent. At night they set up Thai "triangle" cushions with low tables and straw mats for dinner. Very relaxing and enjoyable to lie back on the beach and enjoy a decent meal from a western and Thai menu.

The whole trip is also extremely inexpensive- I always take the "best" room- aircon and hot water for less than 1000 B. Basic room with fan can be had for less than 500.

  8. Are the yellow and green taxis or red or blue cheaper than the limos from the airport to pattaya?

When i went back in march i was determined not to pay more than 1500 baht, i had the usual touts asking me to go in their "Limo", but was quoting me 2000 baht, i kept saying too expensive. i was there 20 minutes. turning down different touts, until one tout would not leave me alone and kept explaing petrol was more expensive now than one month previous.

I waited 20 minutes with this guy arguing with me telling me this was a good price, (he wouldnt leave me a lone and even called his mate over for some support) in the end i get fed up with arguing the price and got the taxi for 1800 baht.

But i hear stories of so many people getting taxis cheaper. How do you do it?

The metered taxis ive travelled in before are more comfortable than the so called limos and often are quicker to reach the destination (Also the guy doesn't fall asleep while he's driving, like the so called limo i had from pattaya to the british embassy, his head was nodding to the side and only when his head dropped down too far did he wake up. I had to keep coughing to make him stay awake......scary!!)

Are the metered taxi's safe? ive heard of people getting mugged and stuff or that they are owned by mafia! is this true?

What is the best tip to get a cheap taxi?

Hi Big Spuds,i just worked out the taxi fare into u.k money :o ,its along distance to pattaya?,2 hrs?,i am using Destination Asia who are specialist transfer company, they are charging me £38 to pick me us from the airport BKK and take me to my hotel in BKK,then after 3 days taking me to pattaya hotel for 2weeks,then returning me back to the airport.

I have used then before they are excellent, puctual, helpful, friendly.courteous and use nice aircon vehicles either private cars or minibus or coach depends on how many people they have to pick up.I used this company when i went to Koh Samui and Malaysia over the last 2 years.

  10. The  beach  area  opposite  the  Amari  is  better  than  the  area  towards  South  Pattaya  however  i  wouldnt  like  to  swim  at  either  location. Beach  vendors  abound  so  you  will  get  pestered  to  some  extent.

If  you  are  here  for  a  couple  of  weeks  you  may  want  to  consider  2  or  3  nights  on  Koh  Samet  its  only  an  hour  down  the  coast  by  mini-bus  (book  yourself  or  the  Amari  will  do  it  for  you)  the  beaches  there  are  1000%  better  than  those  in  Pattaya  and  it/ll  give  you  a  nice  break. Can  recommend  Malibu  Resort  on  Von Deun  beach.

Thanks for that Thai Flyer,i will put that on my list of where to go with with my partner, forgive my ignorance but is Koh Samet on an island or is it part of th

    mainland?.

Any idea of prices at the (2) hotels?,or were they beaches you quoted?

Thanks again,oh by the way sorry for the quoted post i sent you by mistake from (impossible me) :o ,cock up on my part :D .

  11. I'll give you my input.  I stayed on Soi Post Office next to all the important action in S. Pattaya.  The Soft Rock Cafe was 350 baht a night.

Got there and was stocked to see an ocean.  Then I got closer and it was less attractive.  When night time came I saw what Pattaya was really for.

I'll save those stories for barladies.com.  so moral of the story is don't go to Pattaya for the beach.  Goto one of the Koh's.  white sand and clear water.  However, Hat Rin has been known to have puke, shit and semen floating around.

:o Sounds grim, what you say :D ,did you go on your own?

  12. If you want to swim/laze on beach try the Hard Rock Hotel. They have a fairly large pool with an artificial beach, everything clean and well maintained and it is just across the road from the real beach.

    Thanks pnutedt

That sounds very helpful/interesting,can anyone go on this beach? and do you have to access the beach it by going through the hotel?,any problems there-oh and where is the Hard Rock Hotell Located?,we are staying at the AMARI ORCHID in patttaya.

    Nice report Impossible_me............ :D

Thank you very much for the very helpful advice Thai Flyer! :D ,the advice for travelling to a nice beach and the travelling to get there is so useful and appreciated,we will most certainly take your helpful advice.

Maybe when we get there next week 24th in Pattaya may we can meet up for a beer and a bite to eat?

    best regards

  14. It also depends when your flight lands at Bangkok Airport. After spending many hours on a plane from UK, if you arrive at night, you might be better spending the night in a hotel near the airport in Bangkok, then getting a bus, train or taxi to Pattaya the next morning.

Personally, after a flight from Australia I just want to get to Pattaya and take a taxi direct from BKK Airport to my hotel  (1200 baht). If you are checking into your hotel in Pattaya late at night, please advise them of your time of arrival - before you leave UK.

    Peter

    Thanks Pete,

interesting to compare prices with what you said by taxi from BKK Airport to Patttaya!.

I am using Destination Asia as a transfer company,i have used them before when i went to Koh Samui and Malaysia and they were excellent, prompt, courteous, punctual and polite.

To be picked up fron BKK Airport and taken to the hotel in BKK Radison, then taken from Radisson hotel to pattaya hotel, then Pattaya hotel to airport about £38.

  15. If  the  40  pound  includes  the  return  trip  to  Pattaya  and  the  trip  to  the  hotel  in  Bangkok  then  its  fair  IMO...............you/ll  pay  1300 baht  one  way  from  the  airport  to  Pattaya  and  maybe  1200  on  the  return  journey  so  by  the  time  you  add  on  300  baht  for  the  trip  to  the  hotel  in  Bangkok  there  is  not  much  in  it.

    Thanks for the advice! :o

  16. I could not recommend swimming at any of Pattaya's beaches. :D

If you want to stay close to a relatively clean beach, but still be able to access Pattaya's "attractions", I would suggest staying at the Ambassador Hotel in Na-Jomtien... similar pricing to the Amari, but much better beach. It also has a comlimentary minibus service running in/out of Pattaya.

Thanks Jai Dee,i just looked up the Ambassador Hotel in Na-Jomtie,wow :o what a place amazing! :D .

I will see if i can get in there, how far from the action is it?,town, bars ect?

  18. Was there a guy from a 70's pop band now living in Samui on the program, wonder if he's still there.Sparks if I recall correct.

    Hi there,

yes i saw the program here in the u.k the other week,he was the guitarist with the group SPARKS from the 70s.He was playing some good acoustic blues too in th eprogram at some small bar in koh samui, did not recognise it as i have been out tthere myself 2 years ago also as a musicianon holiday.

It seems like he went through some rough times out in koh samui, drunk most of the times ect but he seems to be happy and sorted now.

    regards

    love you long time
