  1. I'll soon be leaving Thailand and changing from an O to a B visa, am I right in thinking I won't need a re-entry permit for my O visa as I'll be returning with a new B visa? But if there are issues with my non-imm B application I would still have 6 weeks of my non-imm O left so I could get a re-entry permit just in case there are any problems. I have a valid work permit which expires June 2016.

    Thanks

  2. Thanks, I know that, what I am asking is can I extend a non-imm o visa for any other reason than marriage? I'm working with a WP so qualify for an extension based on employment but was recently told at immigration I have to apply for a new non-imm b outside of Thailand, why can't I just apply for an extension based on work?

I'm not sure I understand why you would want to.

If you want to extend for the reason of work then you need an Non B. But you don't need a Non B because you have a Non O that allows you to work already.

Extending an Non B would be conditional on being employed and earning 50k per month (maybe less depending on your nationality). If you are earning more than 40k per month you can use that income to extend your Non O on the basis of being married and can take the money from the bank.

I have a very good investment opportunity which is why I want to free up the 400k I've used previously. I do make enough per month but if you are doing it that way instead of the lump sum 400k in the bank then you need to show the previous year's tax return showing you paid tax on at least 40k per month but I've not been working long enough to do that.

  3. You can extend again with a Non 'O' based on marriage because you are allowed to get a work permit with that extension.

You can extend with 400k in the bank or use the income from you job.

  4. Once you have a valid visa am I right in thinking that just the reason for extension changes when your current permission to stay expires?

I have a non-imm o (from Hull in the UK initially based on marriage) and the last few years I have extended it based on marriage but I'm now working and want to free up the 400k I've previously needed for a good investment opportunity.

But when I asked recently at immigration if I can extend based on working they said I can't and must apply for a new non-imm b outside of Thailand? Is this correct?

  5. i went to one restaurant sameone talking

    the hungry wolf.

    no words

but the market give already the answer

    the restaurant now is closed.

the suggestion in this forum for me about the food

    are already over.

Nothing to do with the market I don't think.

I read somewhere that the owners are holidaying and

the place will be back open on May 3.

I think that is the case (not sure on the date, but in May). One of the owners is a teacher at one of the schools here. Closed down for holiday. I'm shocked that this makes financial sense for them as the rent in that area must be high. Anyway once they reopen it is worth checking out, they make some of the best Pizza in CR.

Correct, both owners on holiday and opened again today, definitely the best pizza in Chiang Rai and the rest of the menu is good too.

  6. I daubt that they just give you a Visa debit card when you open an account-still get a good laugh when I think about it.The first year here they hardly noticed me every month when we went to the bank-after a year or so we bought a house-suddently they came home to us when we wanted to talk to them-and first then-whitout asking, they one day gave me a card when they visit us.

I did the mistake about having my Danish bank and the bank here for some time-until I saw how exspensive it was-pay in Denmark and here when taking money out from the ATM-bad idea.

Got a visa debit card from both BKK Bank and KTBthe same day I opened my accounts.

  7. Loads of Beemers and Benz about, nothing special and definitely not worth starting a thread for! Most of the 3M+ baht price is tax as imported, a great buy if you are a fan of paying tax. The Volvo V40 Cross Country at 1.9M would have been my choice if I wanted 'something different', great 5cyl turbo engine and officially the safest car in the world, with the 1.1m baht left over a Mazda 3 2.0SP could be parked next to it, both are as good as a 3 series.

But, like has been mentioned, quite a few Lamorghini pass through CR as the count of monte christo often invites his pals up from the big mango, now they are cars worth getting excited about!

  8. Recently became aware of yet another missionary/money-making scheme based here http://medialightasia.com/home/

Seems to be a family-run project where the main benefactors are the family themself, not only do they receive tax-free donations from America but they also charge for their media course, donations used mainly frequent expensive coffee shops in/around Chiang Rai with lots of nice rented houses and international travel, definitely big fans of Je$u$.

  9. Just took out a policy with directasia.com and would recommend these guys over gluaygluay.com

Slightly cheaper quote but much more comprehensive cover in terms of baht amount covered and services offered if and accident occurs.

Customer service rep spoke excellent English and was very professional.

  10. Go for the Mazda 3 is my advice.Or wait for the new Civic like me.Its supposed to have the first CVT Box the testers like in a cheapish Car.The MPG is reportedly best of the lot. But we have all heard that before.

The Mazda 3 was my original choice but I had a look around which is when I came across the Elantra Sport. The GLE model is 819k baht and is a higher spec than the Mazda 3 2.0C which is 914k baht and not far off the Mazda 3 2.0S which is 974k baht. So now I know that I doubt I'd be prepared to spend another 100k for a car that is a lower spec, similar story for the Civic as their similar spec model is the 1.8ES AT which is 950k baht. I liked the Toyota Altis Esport which is 899k baht but again is quite far off the spec of the GLE Elantra.

If i were you i'd arrange a test drive for both. You will be impressed on how well the mazda 3 does. Even if the korean has a better spec it doesn't mean the quality is the same as the japanese and won't deliver you the same drive experience. I am in Laos now and rented a new Elantra for 2 days while my car was in repair shop to change the control arm. Since i test drove the mazda 3 before i can say that it feels much better thant he elantra.

But it's up to you, just my thoughts between those 2

Did back to back test drives this afternoon of the Mazda 3 and Elantra Sport (tomorrow Focus, Altis and Civic) and both were excellent, honestly very little difference between the two although the Skyactive Mazda was slightly more responsive in terms of engine response. The latest 1.8 Elantra engine is 30kgs lighter and positioned back a bit so the steering is more responsive and has three steering settings...comfort, normal and sport.

The Mazda I drove was the top SP model which is close to 1.1M baht and was very, very nice but if I bought one it would be the 2.0C which is 914k baht so 95k baht more than the GLE Elantra Sport. The Elantra I drove was the GLE, not sure what spec cars I'll be able to test drive tomorrow but pretty sure I've made my mind up already as both the Altis and Civic 1.8 cars have less power and worse fuel economy than the Elantra and their similar priced models are much lower spec. I've pretty much ruled out the Focus as don't want either a 1.6 or 2.0 and that is all there is.

  12. Do NOT even dream about buying it, it is very poor quality and not up to the old model. Old Tech engine, you get what you pay for!!

Thanks for the reply, could you elaborate re the engine though please? The showroom guy said it has a new (nu) engine with more hp than the Toyota and Honda 1.8 engines while being more economical. I just had a quick google search and it seems the engine was introduced just 3 yrs ago.

  13. Over the years many valued members have either chosen to stop posting on the CR forum or have been banned, there is a common reason that this has happened that has been mentioned already which is one particular member. Whether the forum is dying or not is a matter of opinion but I'd say it has been in a persistent vegetative state for some time now.

  14. Just been out on the hunt for a new car, Mazda 3 is very nice and currently first choice but I'm surprised by my second choice which is the new Hyundai Elantra Sport. It is now built in Malaysia, instead of Korea, which means the price has reduced substantially and all others (Focus, Altis, Mazda 3 etc) with a similar spec are at least 100k baht more expensive. It looks great and the interior is really nice, only surpassed by the Mazda 3, so the only negative is the depreciation but if I'm paying 150k less then when it is time to sell if it has depreciated faster than I won't be too bothered.

Does anyone have one and happy to give their opinion? The one I'm considering is the GLE which is 819k baht, similar spec Mazda/Ford/Toyota/Honda are all about 920-950k.

    Thanks.

  15. Received a Non-Imm O visa from Hull last year which is what I entered on then did my first ever 1yr extension based on marriage last year. That is up for renewal soon and I planned to do the same again but my boss would like me to do an extension based on employment instead so have a couple of questions.

    1) Can a non-imm O be extended based on employment or does it have to be exclusively marriage?

    2) If not I presume I would have to leave Thailand and get a new non-imm B which could then be extended based on employment?

    3) The marriage extension last year was quite lengthy, I was told the first marriage extension is usually more thorough with immigration officers visiting the house, interviewing neighbours etc but then following years are easier. So if I do an extension based on employment for the next few years and then change to an extension based on marriage again will that application be treated as a first extension and will we have to go through all that again?

    Thanks for any advice/info.
