Transferring ownership of a motorcycle when not taxed for 3 years
So here's the problem ... chap left his KTM motorbike in storage pre-covid, with all intentions of coming back to Thailand. Well age & life caught up and now he can't travel back from the USA to continue riding, and asked me if I could take ownership and sell it / ride it. So armed with the Green Book & his signed passport copy, off I went to the Chiang Mai DMV (Land Transport Office). Turns out, as some of you may know, that if a vehicle has not been taxed for 3 years, it "drops off the system" and has to be re-registered ... something they explained can't be done without the original owner, in person. I argued with the lovely lady who appeared to be in charge, that as the owner could not travel, therefore we had a bit of a stalemate. What other options were available, I asked ?. .... she smiled and said "ride outside of the city, and don't hit anyone !" But in all seriousness, how does one get such a situation resolved ? Can a dealer buy, then sell back to me ? Can it be sold to someone in another (more relaxed) province, then sold back to be ? Can palms be greased somewhere, noting that several offers I have had, just did not come to fruition in todays "no-more-corruption Thailand" 😁 Answers on a postcard, please.

Sending goods from Chiang Mai to the UK
I send a 25-30kg box, air freight to the UK every couple of weeks. Use EMS at the Post Office, 30kg max weight and some dimensional constraints, but the price was only THB 10,300 for 30kg (£240). Pack yourself & drop off at a Thai Post Office. It gets delivered by Parcelforce in the UK, with no extra charge (if personal effects), fully tracked, and takes 10-14 days normally. Let me know if you find anything better than this as that would be interesting.

Renewing a Contract with Tenant - use agent or not ?
Just wondering what condo landlords do in Thailand when you have used a Agency to find a Tenant, and they charged the usual commision for the first rental period. Ok, so that covers finding the Tenant, the Lease, & Inventory. So when its renewal time, and the Tenant wants to stay on, all the hard work has been done. Is it customary to use the Agency again at a similar commision, or just deal directly with the Tenant creating a new lease from the readily available templates. I guess the other option is negotiate with the agency ?

Anyone with a Garmin handheld GPS ?
Some of the earlier posts elude to Open Street Map - there are ways to convert that "map" into a file called gmapsupp.img that you can load onto an SD card (or the unit itself). But it can be complicated and frustrating to make it work if you are not too savvy with computers & file structures. There is a guide here which gives an overview of the process. I do this on a regular basis for the my Zumo unit, and also on a mates 60c, so I imagine the 67 is similar. If you are anywhere close to Chiang Mai I cud do it for for you, but I'm out of town at the mo - send me a PM if you are struggling and I will attempt to help. Russ.

ePacket from Thailand, anyone got a wife or kid using it for e-commerce?
Recently used e-packet to send a motorcycle sprocket from Thailand to UK.... just under 1 kg, cost 865 bht, delivered in about 14 days. Royal Mail Tracking picks it up eventually, and you get photo confirmation of delivery on their website. Can't comment for delivery to other countries. Prices charged in 100 gr increments, and max of 2kg to most destinations (except UK which is 5kg) Official prices & conditions attached. Thai Post e-packet.pdf

Advice on concrete ceilings and where to go for double glass neutral windows
I know the thread a bit old, but we got a house with new D&W windows installed, but no insect screens. I see the channels are there to accept the screens, and I'm looking for the elusive D&W showroom in Chiang Mai. Have emailed the Co in BKK, with no reply yet. Left phone no with a couple of other local companies who custom make screens, but I guess they are all still sat around a table drawing lots as to who is call the dreaded farang ! So has anyone in CM managed to find these specific D&W screens available for purchase up here ?

Where to park the 800,000 THB?
I park mine in a Krungsri Mai Te Dai account... OK, only 0.9% interest, which is taxed, but it comes with a bank book, and because every month there is an automated Interest entry, Chiang Mai Immigration don't need a statement, just the book, & a letter confirming current balance when I apply for the extension. You can withdraw at any time, so if the proverbial hit the fan for any reason (medical etc), you can use it and replenish later, which I guess is not true of a Fixed Bond.

Schengen visa for Thai wife , entering EU from UK by Car ??????
Fact - was in similar situation. Wanted to take GF for a 2 week motorcycle tour last May, during our 6 month UK visit. (She has 10 year UK tourist visa now) We live in Chiang Mai so applied at VFS there in February, on the basis the "most nights would be spent in Germany" (and it wud save a trip to BKK for the application ????). Had to make a Booking.com reservation for first 2 nights in Germany which we subsequently cancelled. Also had travel insurance in place for the entire visit. For German Schengen applications you now fill out an online form (I made a mistake and hand filled out a PDF I downloaded, so had to do the electronic one on my mobile in VFS office. Fair does, they were relatively helpful here in waiting, then printing off for me). Oh make sure your girls name is on the hotel booking too. Didn't ask for tour details / ferry bookings etc, or anything else. 2 weeks later, we got the Visa, multiple entry but for just 6 weeks .... maybe as it was her first application. Tour completed with no hassles at either the Tunnel out, or the ferry back.
