Some time ago there was a process in place in the UK to link fines to income. As you can imagine this was not popular with the 'haves'. They didn't like disclosing their income to the court and, as one newspaper columnist wrote, they felt that they had somehow earned the right for penalties to be less painful to their pockets than those of the hoi-poloi.  the system was dropped!

Since when was it dropped ? The TV presenter Ant McPartlin was fined £86,000 and disqualified from driving for 20 months after admitting drink-driving, linked to his income.

  2. Now you all know what the purchase of the "120 Stryker Armoured Personnel Carriers" from America were for, ready for this unrest, I can't see why they would need them for any other reason. The PM has said he needs the A.P.C's and the "8 new US AH-61 Strike Helicopters" in case of insurgents from their neighbours, who the hell would want Thailand, nobody has for 800 years.  "Thailand to acquire a total of 120 US armoured vehicles" headlines from 28th August 2019. Just saying.

  3. Nothing will change until the police start doing some policing, other than "Highway Patrol" stopping a few larger trucks I don't believe I have ever seen anyone stopped for a moving traffic offence. I have seen trucks being driven almost like battering rams on the inside lane, spewing black smoke because they have been "chipped" to go faster than designed originally, past police vehicles and no action from the BIB ????

I have often considered having one of these Easy Pass cards. Can you let me know how these work?

    Thanks.

Go and get the TAG from either, an office on the tollway, usually situated after you have passed through the toll booths, or as other posters have said, from a KTB bank branch. You pay a 1000 thb deposit, as such, but the whole of the 1000 thb is credited to the TAG. As you pass through the "Easy Pass" booths it will display your remaining balance on the booth screen.

You can top up either at 7/11 with the plastic card given with the TAG or at any KTB branch ( usually takes 24hrs for the credit to hit your TAG) or Tollway offices (instant top up). Hope this helps.

Agree for sure. Also make it a crime to drive less than the speed limit on the two right lanes. Slow drivers cause far more accidents than fast drivers, especially idiot slow drivers blocking the right lanes.

I believe that R T A's could be cut by 25-30%  if they enforced a no "lane hogging" or "driving" in the overtaking lanes. What also infuriates me is this new "right hand flasher" as you approach a slower vehicle from behind, making "you" break the law and undertake, because they are too lazy or dumb to move over to let you pass. Biggest problem is, no driver education and no active policing. Put me right if I am wrong, but I believe "lane hogging" is now an offence with driver points in most Euro countries, ("A NEW study has revealed that millions of drivers in the UK are putting themselves at risk of a £100 and three penalty points while lane hogging on the motorway").

  6. On Tuesday I attempted to make a purchase from "Lazada Online Shopping" when pressing the "Pay Now" button and given the pay options, I chose, as always, "Internet Payment" when the page opened, I found that my bank Krungsri was no longer listed, or even my other alternative Bangkok Bank. I then chose pay by "Wallet" as I still had a balance unused in here, I then got a new screen asking me to "authenticate" myself by filling in a form (Although I have had an account with Lazada since it started here in Thailand) the first question asked on the authentication is:- are you a "Thai" or "Foreigner" on clicking Foreigner you are then told that you cannot access the wallet, as it is for "Thais" only ??? So my money is locked up and I cannot retrieve it ??? On calling the company to ask why, I was told that it was to prevent "Money Laundering" so obviously only "Foreigners" launder money, even in my case when transferring legally transferred money from a Thai bank account to my Lazada wallet, so transfer 800k baht to your account, but as a "Foreigner" you cannot use or spend it. ( I see today all options with the exception of "Pay on Delivery" are now disabled ).

This is in total contravention of Section 30 of the "Thai Constitution" :-

Section 30. All persons are equal before the law and shall enjoy equal protection under the law.

Men and women shall enjoy equal rights.

Unjust discrimination against a person on the grounds of the difference in origin, race, language, sex, age, disability, physical or health condition, personal status, economic or social standing, religious belief, education or constitutionally political view, shall not be permitted.

I have lived, owned property and companies here in Thailand for 29 years (1990) spent many thousands of Baht with Lazada and this is how us 'Foreigners' are seen and treated, Oh well rant over, I am sure there will be many more uses of unjust discrimination in the future, under this undemocratic government.

Did not know Thailand was at war.  Other than just a lot gum flapping, I would say nothing good is happening in the country.  Its moribund state remains as it has since military rule.

Other than border skirmishes and insurgents, Thailand has not fought any major war for 600+ years (except a 5 hour token gesture during the Japanese invasion in 1941) also I do not think any other country would actually want Thailand. Certainly it does not justify the outrageous spending by the military, 227 billion baht for 2019, 3 submarines ordered, 1 aircraft carrier in mothballs (no aircraft capable of T/O or landings) just to mention a few billion in wasted revenue. I have been here for 29 years (1990) and seen 3 coup d'etat in that time, not one of them have come close to this regimes overspending. No wonder they are muting farangs must have and leave their 800,000 baht in a Thai Bank for the whole year of the retirement extension.

  8. I wish this young lady every success in obtaining asylum in Australia or any other civilised country. The article on the link below was in the UK a year ago, totally disgusting, abhorrent, behaviour and if my memory serves me correctly, the murder was witnessed by her siblings, who were also threatened.

    Well done young lady.

I had a few issues with HDPrime over the past few weeks. I would email them and they would get back immediately and have it sorted.

But,as of 3 nights ago i have not been able to get any programes and only this as per OP;'Cannot load M3U8: crossdomain access denied'.

I have sent 2 emails, but no response at all, have cleared caches, re booted routers, all to no avail.

Since the beginning of the month, we have had some lingering issues related to renewing the security certificate of our servers. Due to a change in specifications, it caused many issues with streaming for many customers. Today the last of these problems should be cleared up, and you should be able to watch as before. If not, please do let me know ASAP.

  11. If the local authority does not clean these beaches (as they should), then very town or beach should have what we have here in Hua Hin. "The Trash Heroes": a dedicated group of mixed race (Thai & Farang) volunteers, that do a truly amazing clean up job every Sunday. As you can see below they cleared about 160kg last weekend. On their behalf, any other volunteers that wish to take part, go to "Trash Hero Hua Hin" on F/B to see where the next clean up takes place. Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

  12. Hi Moonseeker,

I have had dimmable LED's in my house since I had it built 21/2 years ago, only had one of 68 lights fail and that was the controller box, which the lighting company replaced free of charge, (including a spare one) The contact is Wendy Chen, [email protected], the lights are about $8-&10 each depending what wattage you choose, a bit dearer than tungsten but the saving and longevity over a period, out ways the cost. Regards.

  13. Not sure if folks on here or elsewhere are aware, but you are no longer able to post anything by ThaiPost unless you take either your driving licence, ID card or passport with you, another piece of useless bureaucracy dreamed up to cause longer cues at the counters ( No idea how they are going to police the Post boxes, maybe have someone at each one to check your ID )
