  1. Point being, living here will probably be no different than living back in west. Racism will come at you at different times and be more blatant than back home but no stronger. If your willing to shrug it off then you will be fine and so will your kid.

This. Doesn't matter where you go there will always be bigotry.

  2. In this regard we can be asking are black men in western countries getting all the good white women and this suddenly becomes extremely offensive and if you know about the history the US black men could even be killed just by looking at a white woman.

That is a very bigoted and out of date point of view. It is true that in the days of slavery, now well and truly gone thank god, black men could be killed for just about anything. It was a devestating and intolerant time in American history. In the present it is not considered outside the norm for any combination of race, gender or skin colour to be in a relationship.

In the context of this thread I believe there is a massive difference between the Thai perception of men who are paying to be in a relationship and men who are in a genuine one. But how do you tell which is which?

  3. I always found that I liked to eat spicy food but it didn't agree with my stomach and I suffered from the infamous ring of fire! But by choosing foods with only a little bit of spice I found that somewhere along the line I managed to build up a tolerence to it, both the taste and the digestion.

I still find that some foods are too spicy for me but I don't suffer from the digestion issues anymore.

  4. So I'm thinking of taking a week off to go diving in Sept/Oct.

I have heard that the islands on one side of Thailand are better than the other at this time of year but can't remember which...

Any recommendations about good islands or places to go to for diving at this time of year would be excellent!

  5. Yea it's pretty terrible how many plastic bags are used here... even when I try to say to not use a new one and just pack it all in they don't really want to. And double bagging for a 2L milk... come on.

Definitely need reusable fabric bags here but I doubt it would ever catch on. Was hard enough to make the switch in Australia.

  6. Rudd's latest thoughts on the Australian economy.

"The truth is in 2013, the China resources boom is over. While the export of resource and commodity volumes are up, the prices we receive for them have now fallen almost 25 per cent since their peak and may well fall further. "Right now, we find ourselves at a crossover point for our national economy."

    Detail at: http://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/business/international/australia-s-economy-at/741224.html

Sorry didn't read the article. Is it basically saying the China resources boom isn't over? If so I shall stop, drop and lol.

  7. Just wondering if you can buy the sealed orchid seedlings at Suvarnabhumi Airport. I assume it would be alot easier to clear customs with them if purchased at the Airport, plus I didn't find any at Chatuchak.

  8. A brief google search will show that the picture of the "Hitler" chicken restaurant in Ubon is about two years old, they've long since changed their name. Maybe somebody ought to let KFC know?

So this whole arguement is about something from 2 years ago that doesn't exist anymore?

Regardless it is fairly tasteless. If the Thais don't know anything about Hitler and westerns hate everything to do with him than why do it? I'm guessing the free publicity is what they were after, which someone stated earlier.

  9. New to Bangkok and just wondering if there is a group of golfers that wouldn't mind having a random tag along for a round. Or if you know of anywhere I can find a group.

Didn't bring my sticks with me but happy to hire for now. Will look at buying if I decide to stay in Bangkok for a while.

  10. I have lost a lot of weight recently, not at the end of the road yet, but I am left with some reminders of my time spent at 165kg.

I thought that stretch marks would just be something I would have to live with but apparently they can be removed now. Does anyone know of a good place in Bangkok to go for such a treatment?
