There is going to be 2nd wave and 3rd wave ++, just need few infected like before and whole show is back. Its not going anywhere unless most of people have immunity, which might take a year+ this speed, medication to keep you out of hospital or vaccine + time to give it, which might take that 1-2 years. They also talk about people without symptoms. We had first test round and only 1% of the group had antipodies, so does not indicate that we have lot of people without symptoms and healed. They will make bigger test round but let's see. Closing does not work as well so people need to go back to work, use masks, be careful and hope the best. Otherwise there is going to be much more worse outcome than this decease ever could cause.

So 2-3 weeks old stuff, thousands of people having time to go hundreds of places around Thailand, potentially having thousands of people who have also visited tens of places potentially having hundreds of people during last 1-2 weeks. Not sure about my math but looks big number?

Chinese government knows how to create confusion and lead direction of discussions towards wanted goals as Western world is very much trusting media, internet and false data without control/censorship likewise in China where all the information can be controlled. Russia is doing the same and they know how effective and easy it can be. We are actually feeding it by jumping one fact to the other even without thinking and just believing that everything is true out there. They have hundreds or even thousands people working on this field in Internet, they pay some people to make it look more reliable information like propably now in this case, the problem needs to come somewhere else. They use soft power to convince some Westerners to publish wrong info and most likely some threats as well, which have been seen coming out from Chinese embassies. Reason why we see high deaths in Italy has the background as already mentioned here, Iran has different reasons which are based on the culture and religion. In other countries reasons are potentially different like Thailand tourism and not serious attitude generally in public, same as seen among youngsters in Western world. So we have lot of things flying around and some of those are true and some false by purpose or ignorance.

Thailand did nothing to halt the spread as it continued to keep its borders open and unchecked to China for the past four months. I'd rather give credit to Laos and Vietnam for closing their borders the moment they became aware of this serious situation. If you'd been paying any attention at all since this story first leaked from China, you'd know that it has been circulating in China as far back as late November, and that means outside as well.
You're one of those people that seems to takes great delight at wagging his finger at other countries for not doing enough, without wanting to look closer to home as to why this was allowed to spread globally. If you're actually living (or staying) in Thailand then you know that the Thai government was saying that it wouldn't spread in their country due to their hot climate and strong winds. Basically, they buried their heads in the sand, worried that their economy would suffer due to a lack of tourism, nor did they want to offend their Chinese tourists that were bringing in lots of holiday cash. Meanwhile, plenty of tourists from China have been intermingling with tourists from across the globe in that giant petri dish you call Thailand since December, right up to only a few days ago when Thailand finally stopped its flight to and from China. Think about that for a minute.
No country can do enough now because the virus wasn't contained within China. On January 29, when Italy detected and isolated its first coronavirus cases – from two Chinese tourists – authorities were sure they had put together the safest protection system in Europe. The following day, Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte immediately declared a state of emergency for six months, and made Italy the first country to block flights from China. Scientists believe that the virus had been circulating unnoticed in the country from at least mid-January – thriving because so many of the infected had no symptoms at all, or only mild symptoms like a cough and a mild temperature. This is consistent with recent research suggesting that the virus can be spread by people who do not yet show any symptoms.
Look, I could post lots of info on the "whys" and "how" it spread so easily. Yeah, I'm looking at you WHO and China, but it's not going to alter the here and now. Some of you are of the mindset that this is only a little blip, an unnecessary inconvenience that only requires a simple lockdown lasting only for a few weeks or months and this will all go away. Clearly you haven't understood the scientific models that have come out of the Imperial College London the past few days where the numbers and available data were crunched and the best and worse case scenarios have all been calculated. It doesn't make pretty reading, grim would be a better word. The upshot is you're going to have to be in continually lockdown until a vaccine has been developed and rolled out worldwide, otherwise as soon as you lift a temporary lockdown, the virus will start-up again and each country will be back to square one with thousands of more deaths. That means every country will have to lock its borders and cities for the unforeseeable future and not just for a few weeks or months. A year minimum would probably be a more accurate figure, unless this virus burns itself out naturally and death rates fall by their own accord. Trouble is this is a novel virus, so nobody knows the real longevity or outcome as of yet.
Put it this way, I'd rather be in the UK now, who at least have expert virologist advisors to their government than in Thailand where ignorance is bliss. Each country is going to have to handle things differently due to the size of its population, healthcare system and economy. The EU is in turmoil right now as they have no system put in place for locked borders, so supplies are not getting through across its Schengen Area Member States but snarling up at their borders instead. Nothing is clear-cut or straight forward as you paint it.
Anyway, I'm done with the "orange man bad" idiots here and armchair critics that don't understand what's really happening around them. Good luck, my fellow farrangs living in LOS, you're going to need it. May your god, or whatever belief system you have, be with you.
With any luck, I'll be back in LOS in 18 months when this is all hopefully over and the world opens its borders again.
Lock down is not gonna work more than few months. Otherwise most of small businesses are gone, middle and big size closed and most of people without work and income. Some have money and savings but lot of people not. Governments have limited money and resources to support people long term and it means food queues for free food and some necessary things until even that is not enough. Then riots will start and people look for anything they could find legally or not. It has been seen in 3rd world countries and it the same reality here. Even in US it has been seen without this level crises. So let's hope that we have something latest on June-July to get out from this. Even China will have issues as nobody buys most of their exports and its going even worse if these things happen. Have a nice day and sorry to be Mr. DoomsDay

Bigger problem is that general medicine manufacturing has been stopped or on the minimal level in China. Almost all components or medicines are manufactured in China, penisilin and antibiotics will be hard to get after few months if factories are not resuming production. At least farang prices will be times X compared what they are now. Of course, elite will get their share and others what is left. Therefore it might be different thing to get everyday infections than now.
Just wonder why entertainment sector has not impacted and reporting any cases? Corona does not like Thai ladies?

The coronavirus fatalities are far worse than the Chinese authorities are admitting. Entire supply chains are being shut down as cities in China are in lockdown. It is not good news for anybody, with the possible exception of the medical industry.
Don't worry, we will start on Monday as anyone else after extended holidays. Unless big X says otherwise. All goodies will flow to consumers once again. Power of capitalism cannot be stopped, not even coronavirus.

I would be more concerned about the flu, look up how many people it wipes out every year, the numbers are frightening, but we don't hear about it in the news.
Don't worry this thing is going to beat any of your flu numbers hands down. And comparing one year against one month + whole thing is just starting tells everything. And no need to talk about intensive care this needs compared normal flu. If you mean influenca, which is different thing, we might be a little bit closer, but better to see where we end up by March. Prepare the worst, at least you will be not disappointed (win-win)

Not too many group tours coming from China for few months? It's big gap to be closed and keep numbers increasing.
Just checked few big hotels (higher end) numbers and 2019 did not look good at all (compared 2018), actually double digit less sales, so no big spenders everywhere. They tried to compensate numbers by selling property, so after that it looked decent.

As far as Phuket is concerned, it really depends on where you are located and what sort of tourists your business is targeting. Tourism to Patong Beach is down quite a bit for sure but it’s still very crowded in January. Tourism in Northwest and Centralwest Phuket like Laguna, Kamala, Naithon is way up. Try to book a 5 star hotel right now in one of these areas. Many of the top hotels in this part of Phuket are sold out.
Patong Beach attracts a cheap, lower class type of tourist that doesn’t spend a lot of money. The cheaper backpacker tourist is disappearing in Phuket, simply because they have been priced out. It’s too expensive for them to stay in Phuket.
For example, Phuket, due to the fact that it’s run by the Thai mafia, has the most expensive taxis in the world. More expensive than Tokyo, Japan ( This is why you own a car if you live in Phuket ). This is because the mafia beats up any competitors like Grab Taxi drivers. There are a few Grab Taxi drivers in Phuket but they all work for the mafia now so they’re able to control the price. So yeah, you’re looking at 500 baht to drive 6 minutes in a taxi in Phuket. If you’re a backpacker tourist, the cost of taxis alone is enough to scare you away from Phuket.
In other parts of Phuket, it’s a different story. Tourism is way up and it’s mostly the wealthy family crowd. Lots of families are coming to Phuket. These tourists spend big money and have stupid amounts of wealth. These are the kinds of tourists that can afford $18k usd / night at Amanpuri or Trisara.
I would argue that luxury tourism is way up in Phuket but that backpacker tourism is way down. A luxury tourist probably === 100 cheap tourists so....
I could imagine tourism being down in Samui though. Samui never really caught on in my opinion and never will. We were looking to open a clinic there but opted not to do so after doing our research. It’s a poor long term real estate and business investment. The reason Phuket took off and is still the best place in Thailand to invest your money is because it has an international airport. I mean heck, I can be in downtown Bangkok from my house in Phuket in under 2.5 hours. It takes some people that long to get to work in Bangkok traffic, and they live in Bangkok. I personally couldn’t live in Samui because they simply they don’t have all amazing “developed country” perks that Phuket has. Phuket has everything that most developed countries in the world have so that’s part of its appeal, especially for the wealthy retirement crowd.
Hands down, if I had to pick between Hawaii and Phuket for retirement, I would pick Phuket. I have properties in both places so I would know. Hawaii is really nice but it’s extremely boring. Besides surfing and beach volleyball and quality wacky tabaccy, there is nothing to do there and you can’t just quickly fly to a major city like Bangkok, or Kuala Lampur or Hong Kong for a fun night out, dinner, or shopping.
Just checked Laguna offering. They have plenty of options available as well as full-booked/one room only left seem to have available rooms through different sites or asking directly from hotel. Therefore I wouldn't say how much more customers they have compared last year.

TAT's tourist numbers do not include people arriving or departing via land crossings, this point was clarified a few weeks ago.
Not sure about this if Malaysian's are 3rd biggest group as they mainly use southern border for their holiday visits.

Why suddenly make it a round figure? Just a week ago it seemed perfectly fine to make a lot of fanfare about the 38.26 millionth arrival.
Besides, only on December 11 it was reported that arrivals had reached 32.5 million. Provided that both total arrival figures are correct, that would mean an increase of a whopping 6.5 million new arrivals over the past 16 days, or an average of 382,352 PER DAY. How on earth does Thailand's woefully understaffed immigration department have the capacity to even process half of that? They already seem to struggle when two Boeing-747 land back to back. I just continue to believe that all these figures are deliberately doctored.
HMMM, they did some math here? One week, 740 000 tourist. So 52 or 53 times would be around 39 mils?

High speed trains and bigger airport. Just wonder where all tourists are coming from. Somehow sad as I have always loved this sleepy small town and its more relaxed atmosphere, even if it has changed during years as well.

At least Circle S Sukhumvit 12 seems to be active Chinese Hotel. One group comes, another one leaves. They use old fashion codes, like stone age stuff. Not sure if it's really resident building like they say or well done front, Chinese owned and managed hotel.

Might I suggest these are the scraps of Chinese manufacturers who have not already moved or been denied access to other preferred locations such as Vietnam and Malaysia.
Why else would they go to a country with higher wages, lower productivity, higher value currency. And one that uses imported and itinerant foreign workers and has complex and onerous visa laws for employers of such foreign workers.
Thailand is being used as last resort and is desperate to accept what's left of dodgy tinpot Chinese manufacturers. The best of the Chinese manufacturers have long gone elsewhere.

Naah, I will take my family and 10 000 Euro somewhere else next year. Make it easier, my wife doesn't want to go as well, even if many of her friends and family would like to see us again. She has started to complain about prices and how people treat us nowadays in restaurants and shops. Have to say that it's no better than back home, but at least they don't run away or leave you without service here. And I have never seen Vietnam, so why not. Maybe its worth to try and find out if it takes me back to the old good days when beach was beautiful, drinks cold and cheap.

I think they don't have too many electric motor bikes or scooters in Beijing any more. Its more like electric bikes, which is different thing if you promote them to be used in Bangkok as well. Who the heck would use bike and risk his life more than nowadays?

Picture is like 200 in Beijing. I think best was 500 or other words, out of scale, when I was there. Now it seems to be pretty decent 120.

I still don't see how they qualify nearly 40 million tourist arrivals this year as "tourism woes." Only 10 years ago, Thailand drew less than 15 million per year. The situation is already unsustainable at a lot of destinations, especially small islands. What they should be debating is whether millions more coming every year is even a good thing.
Never heard about capitalism and greed? Works same way everywhere ????. Somewhere it's just more visible.

I was in BKK doing business the other day.
By 3pm we were ready for a drink and a bite to eat
Went into 5 different restaurants and there was no alcohol for sale.
We ended up walking for 10 mins to the beer exchange where it was serving freely and openly.
Reassuringly expensive 300 baht a pint I hasten to add!!
What on earth is wrong with this place!
The clients I was with found it hard to believe.
And yeh I know about this stupid law and why it was brought in.
300 bath!!!! This is unacceptable and national crisis!!! Where is my beer prices down banner?
Thai prototype vaccine passes test with flying colours

So now we see if people turn green or blue in trials. If it fails, clean the mess...Next! So everywhere these vaccine tests already and still most of estimates of readiness target spring 2021? Chinese try to steal all research data globally so no break through there either. Of course, they would do what ever it takes to be the first and save their faces. Of course, they cannot release vaccine too soon as it would create some questions how come they figured out the solution much faster than others...just saying...
But I doubt that none of country would make it public, even with evidence as it could create something we don't want to see, and therefore it will be covered. Not saying that it's the case but more like it's never published in the case created.
