  1. Hello,

I'm in Tunisia now :o and so I like to ask here because it is may more

    easy than search the Internet.

I know here a girl (one of the secretarys) how just finished her

degree in English Teacher and I like to help her to find a job.

She is Tunesien and speak/write/read Arabic, French and English fluently.

Do you guys can may give me any advise were or how to seek for a

(better paid) teacher job (not only in Thailand but Asia).

    Thanx a lot, Back Sida

Maybe take a look at Dave's Esl cafe on the internet: www.eslcafe.com . You should find plenty of into there......There might also be opportunites for her to teach French. I am not sure about Arabic....but it's a possibility......

  2. From the Stickman link:

"We're two weeks into the world's biggest sporting tournament and its effects are being seen in many aspects of life here in the Kingdom. People are staying home to watch the matches instead of going out - and I am not just talking about farangs here."

What did I say about western culture seeping into Thailand?

Seventh United Nations Survey of Crime Trends and Operations of Criminal Justice Systems, covering the period 1998 - 2000 (United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, Centre for International Crime Prevention)

May sound snide, but my guess is that many go unreported in less-developed countries as well.

Regardless, we all know risky behavior combined with alcohol leads to "interesting" results pretty much everywhere!

What I want to know is, why is the rich USA stuck in the middle of developing and third world countires.......?

  4. Yes.....something really strange in this story regarding the presence of this 3rd member of the group ie the Thai guy. What was his relationship to the Thai woman? Were they both milking this poor NZer. Its' very sad. However, don't you people delude yourselves into thinking that London or Paris or NY is any better. Are you watching Mr Chips movies from the 40's or whenever they were made thus distorting you view of Britain / the west. It's not like that here you know......If anything, Thailand is merely catching up. Solzhenitsyn once saids word to the effect that western culture was seeping like sewage through the iron curtain. I suppose it's making it's way into Thailand too :o

  5. Yes, I saw one of the guys smiling too. Boy, this case is really depressing. firstly, the waste of an innocent life with all to look forward to. Then, we find the perpetrators, two Thai fishermen - one apprently illiterate now to face the death penalty. If only clocks could be turned back as I think one of them said. And then the PM intefering every step of the way to salvage Thailand's image (read tourism revenue). In doing so, he's making the kingdom seem corrupt and to a degree - uncivilised. The most positive thing is the way the Horton's have conducted themselves.....

  6. Yes, I wish he would shut up (Thaksin) and let the police and judicial process continue without political intervention. He is influencing this case every step of the way.....and it is a very serious matter! But he seems only concerned about revenue or loss of. I don't like it and neither should anybody else who wants justice for the Horton family and all involved.......

  7. I am sure that DNA samles are conclusive, but what I am saying is, is it at all possible to question where the samples come from? And before anybody attacks me for questioning, I really do hope that they have the correct men but I didn't like the way the PM ordered the police to find him/them.......

  8. They now have these two men's DNA profiles and the 'samples' from within the body of the victim. Could anybody tell me if they are matched then that would be conclusive? What I mean is, there is not way that they would be 'made' to match is there? I just didn't like the fact that the PM ordered the police to find the culprits. The police should be doing their utpmost in any case. What would happen if there was no DNA match and the PM had ordered the police to find somebody. A tich up would be very difficult in the UK due to the amount of red tape and proffessional objectivity of those involved but how about Thailand?

  9. Anon999,

Yes, let's hope that they have caught the correct people. But don't you remember the case of Kirsty Jones, another Welsh student murdered in Thailand a few years back. That case really didn't engender much faith in the Thai police service. By the way, the rapist/murderer is still at large.......

  10. I wonder if anybody can help me? I have a Thai friend who wants to come and work in the UK. She has a Spouse Visa which runs out later this year (She was actually married in Britain and holds an UK marriage certificate). The problem is that she is separated from the husband whose name is on the marriage certificate....Will she be able to get an extension on the Spouse Visa? And can she work in the UK on a Spouse Visa? The goal is for her to work in the UK. She hs considered the Student Visa but I understand there is a limit of hours worked per week on it. What would be her best option(s)? Thanks.
