My eldest daughter in England is a part time stand in teacher , she is going to university as well to become a full time teacher later this year. I said ( as she like it here ) she could teach here. But with only knowing about 6 words of Thai now could she get by teaching here without speaking Thai ? So my point is how many English teachers are fluent in Thai ?
About 14 years ago I took my Thai wife and two step sons to Australia.
The 8 year old attended a special school for new immigrants.
Within 4 years his English was excellent.
His mother wanted him to continue his education in Thailand so shortly before he finished his primary school education in Australia, she took him back to Thailand and enrolled him at a local high school.
Shortly after he was expelled because his Thai abilities were poor.
He was forced to take a one-day a week course in Thai, the only course available.
He has only just finished that course after 8 years.
His mother neglected to keep her PRS current, so he can not return to Australia unless he tries again to be a migrant.
He has no prospects for a job in Thailand where he can use his English because all Thai employers insist on a degree. He has lost the will to succeed, lost his enthusiasm and suffers depression.
I tried to get him interested in online marketing but now he sees other opportunities working for loan sharks.- 1

I forgot to mention that previously I leased an apartment where I lived on and off for more than 3 years starting with an "agent visa" and later with 30 entry plus 30 day extensions.
I went to some trouble together with the landlord to do all the paperwork for reporting my residence but the IO in Changwattana looked through my paperwork and became angry with me (presume he could not find any money?) and told me to go back to the agent.
I didn't go back the agent. Anyway the result is Thai immigration have never known my address ..

Thanks Ubonjoe
Actually I moved into the apartment and my GF signed the lease.
I just paid her cash each month for the rent and she passed it on to the landlord.
The Landlord ignored me and never mentioned making a report.
As I mentioned, a few months later I registered online.
I went to the site today and tried to login but username/password was rejected.
Now can't find the username password but it won't accept a Lost password application
without a username and file number!

I arrived in Thailand on 20th December 2019.
I have a Non-imm OA multiple entry visa. Permitted to stay until 18 December 2020.
I leave for a 3 day conference in Australia on 20th March 2020 at 12.05 am.
I will get through Immigration on the 19th March.
I tried registering my address online back in 2019 but not sure if it was recorded, because the app on the website
didn't seem to run smoothly at the time and I can't find any record of it on my computer of having completed the registration.
Recently I wanted to buy a car but found out I needed a certificate of residence and perhaps a copy of the landlord's home book.
a) Must I do a 90 day report in the 14 days prior to leaving on the 20th March?
b) Where best to get a certificate of residence?

The Swiss need to secede from the EU in order to return Swiss sovereignty, law and order.
They have seen their once pristine country invaded by unemployable foreigners who have placed a huge burden on the welfare and the police at the expense of its own citizens.

Got a taxi today for a 3 hour journey.
After 15 minutes the (approx 50 year old) driver coughed.
He was wearing a mask over his mouth but not over his nose.
I asked him if he had transported Chinese people.
He confirmed that he had and continued to to cough at approx 20 minute intervals.
I was tempted to abandon the taxi but thought it's too late now.
Why doesn't the govt impose mandatory daily testing of all taxi drivers?
If he has the Corona virus then I am already infected. As one poster commented the interior of a taxi is probably the most likely place apart from an aircraft where you could become infected.
Anyway, I wished him a fast recovery and good luck and suggested Buddha will decide our fate.
After arriving home I self medicated on 285 Blend with ice and coke (zero sugar, must take care of my teeth)
I'm over 74 years of age and live alone.
I read that this age group is more likely to die from the the virus and the time from exposure until death can be a short as 6 days.
I feel a sore throat coming on already or is that just my imagination?I feel now my only choice is to stay in self-imposed isolation for two weeks to see if:
a) I stay well
b) get sick and go to hospital for tests
c) wait until I die
d) recoverI don't want to pass any infection on to my family (or anyone really) but apparently you can be infective for two weeks after contracting the virus, without knowing it.
What would you do?

Last night I had to get a taxi to get home, I noticed the driver had a slight cough. I wondered how many Chinese had he picked up the airport in the last few weeks? I'm sure taxi drivers must feel particularly vulnerable. Not to mention aircraft cabin crew and airport staff. Staying home as much as possible would make sense but for many people there is no choice.

I have a small container arriving in Bangkok.
I have a retirement visa issued in February
Any advice on getting it through customs?
Thanks
-
Thanks again MeePeeMai
The Visa was issued in Oz on the 14 February 2019
That's great. It will give me plenty of time to get organised.
I have travel insurance that is valid for 12 months.
It's a great policy issued by Woolworths - considering I'm already 74.
Only catch is you have to renew it in OZ.
-
OK thank you MeePeeMai.
So when will I need to show that 800K in Thai bank?
-
I have a Thai Non-Imm O-A Visa multiple entry which expires on 13 February 2020.
I arrive in Thailand tomorrow 26 November. I will not get the 800K baht into my Thai bank until next week.
I do not have any regular income at present.
Will I have a problem if I go for renewal in early February or should I return to Australia and apply for a new visa in the new year?
Wondering if there was any other option?

You should have kept renting and let your wife stay at the condo. The inconvenience of shifting out and doing all that cleaning put her to a lot of trouble. Now you lose money and have to find a new condo and pay another deposit. The landlady did what any landlord would do. Too bad about your personal circumstances.

Anti-Trumpers are so obviously indoctrinated by the MSM (fake news) funded by George Soros and his mates (Globalists).
The idle gossip you refer to (Infowars and Fox News) are telling the truth. The Swamp is being drained and the criminal democrats are flopping about in the mud.
The reason for spying on Trump, the Russian collusion hoax and the Ukraine hoax were proven to be fabrications trying to bring down Trump. The impeachment vote is yet another desperate attempt by the Dems after their (secret) meeting.
So desperate in fact to prevent Trump being elected in 2020, they are prepared to start a civil war with this nonsense.
They have wasted the US tax-payers money on this ridiculous witch-hunt from the day Trump was nominated for president.
A lot of these Democrats will be going to jail because Trump is slowly bringing out the truth about their crimes.
Joe Biden and his son are just one example of Dems audacious criminal behavior, not to mention the crimes of the Clinton family.
Trump has done more good things for the US than any previous president despite the Democrats demonic opposition and non-cooperation. If you ignore the groundswell of patriots that favor President Trump then you will be the laughing stock in 2020 when Trump wins by a landslide.

Why can't there be two drivers on every bus ?
For these long journeys they should have a maximum of one or two hours behind the wheel before swapping places.
Plus warning alarms built in.
The technology is available to detect inattention or sleepiness - they use them in Australian trucks.
I wish all the injured a speedy recovery but from the photos I would guess many were severely injured . ????

Compare that paltry sum with the real figures of what foreigners bring to Thailand every year.
I for one have brought many millions of baht into Thai economy over the last 10 years.
I expect most other foreigner retirees would have done the same !
I see this health insurance demand as xenophobic nonsense !

So what's wrong with Nok Air?
Lovely hosties and the same miserable snacks as Thai Smile
And you can't nock 'em when they hand out cheaper fares ..

They said to me:
"Hey mista you are very tall and han-sum" (I'm only 5'6")
I said:
"I'm not tall ladies, I'm just standing on my wallet."

Don't let a Thai inflate the tyres because he likes to over-inflate so the tyres are like concrete.
Also they don't handle well on slippery, wet roads.

i had a similar problem to the OP.
Both sides were sliding but there was no way to access the outside of the inner pane for cleaning.
I'm sure the window frame was installed incorrectly as each window could only be lifted outwards.
I managed to lift one window out of the frame but I found it much heavier than I expected.
I was able to support the window balanced on a bracket of the air-conditioner about 15 cm below.
It was a delicate operation to clean the outside of the other window while holding the removed window at the same time. I was worried about dropping the window from the 27th floor onto pedestrians below,
I found it a devil of a job to get the window back into the frame and seated on its track.
My arms were aching by this time and I'd developed a heavy sweat.
Luck was with me that day but I'll not be doing that again !

I wonder why the Chinese prefer to visit countries like Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau ?
It must be because it's cheaper to visit these places instead of Thailand (according to the expert Thai authorities ..)
It could have nothing to do with language would it ?
So much easier to go on holidays where you can understand whats being said and say what you want in your own language.
Just like when i take me 'ols from Birming'm and go to Blackpool 'n all.

Oh wait, maybe they meant a .38 bullet fired by a gun ? That could kill you !

Most condos are way over-priced for the average Thai worker who can only dream of such a place to live. The builders still seem to build according to the shop-house concept- built according to standard roller door-width. They can not imagine a larger floor area.
The smallest condos are mostly studios (one room) or a glass partition used to make it a "one bedroom condo". The 2 bedroom condos are often a studio with one more small bedroom (for the kid) attached. The 3 bedroom condos are squeezed into a floor area not big enough for a one bedroom condo. A "balcony" is often just a place for the aircon. compressor. It's all about making money by providing dog-boxes instead of providing places where people would want to live. I guess that's why they're called Con-Dos. I have not seen a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom condo designed for two couples to share. They are all designed for one couple plus perhaps a teenager. Of course if you have the dosh for a well planned space then you are looking at spending nothing less than 50,000 baht a month and upwards.
Most of you acknowledge that the owners of such places can not imagine (God forbid) "lowering" the rental and getting tenants in. I guess that was not really the intention in the first place, while there are taxes to be avoided with a nice little "investment".
